I think everyone is putting on 31 Dec because the drama has received a license and tencent has announced that it's one of the dramas slated for the 4th quarter of the year, so they know it'll definitely air on or before Dec 31st (god forbid they're any scandals or new developments in c-ent). Those sites cannot know of the airdate before douban and weibo. Besides I don't think they'd want to miss the Dec slot, so I think it'll air before then.
I didn't even know that such a problem existed until I attempted this drama but truthfully ZDY is not very suitable for Xianxia. It's not about her looks, it's the acting, she just doesn't blend. Although I love Xu Kai, his acting here is a bit disappointing. My problem is not that he's stiff(I'm one of the few that thinks he pulls off cold characters better than most in his age bracket) it's those brief moments of awkwardness where his mask of maturity slips and his expressions are not consistent to character. I might have enjoyed this drama more of it was the first Xianxia but after watching some dramas my standards for chemistry are really high and this one doesn't pull me in.

Her acting here is all natural cutesy stuff which I don't find awkward, it's when she takes serious roles that I find her problematic. She doesn't appear until around episode 8 or so, so maybe you could get invested in the MC before that time and her presence wouldn't be a problem.

That's why I said minor romantic plotline. There are a lot of netizens that would have criticized this for an idol theme if they had shown any sort of romance in the first trailer given YM's involvement.
Also smart choice for removing the minor romantic plotline from the trailer, I heard the oath of love was postponed partly bcoz of it's idol theme "... wearing a white cloth to fall in love..."
