My Stand-In is a BL with an unique and never-seen-before plot. I always wondered how the lives of stuntmen be like and this show gave me a sneak peek into their lives and the behind-the-scenes of filming movies. Kudos to all the stand-ins and stuntmen who are acting risky scenes on behalf of the artists. The cinematography and storytelling was great...unlike others the timelines didn't confuse me. Most importantly, the camera shots and the smooth transitions between the main lead Joe and the other Joe was so good. UpPoom's chemistry was insane and I wish they both pair again. Its been a long time since I saw Inntouch after My Engineer. Character-wise I loved P'Wut and Joe's mom, Ing. Loved their bonds with Joe. A few things bothered me though, where is Ing's son Joe's soul? The old Joe thinks the grim reaper must have taken him by mistake but that's the end of it and no where else it was discussed. I am used to shows with soul-swapping themes ignoring how the souls were swapped but at least what happened to the other Joe's soul should have been addressed. Another thing is the redemption arc for Tong. Given the crimes he did, he should be fined and sent to prison. But a simple sorry and clearing the mess he created because everyone's concerned about the unborn child...that's crazy. And in my opinion, Ming is still irredeemable. I don't know why, but even after he apologized and everything he did, I still couldn't forgive him...like I felt he'll flip anytime. I would have liked if Joe acted in a film that had no connections with Ming or his family, that way he truly would have achieved everything by his own efforts. One more thing that looked awkward to me - before Ming's brother Mick was introduced I thought he was an assistant to that Master - there were two scenes where Mick shouted at Ming for barging in to meet the Master but it turns out he was not the Master's assistant. So, what's the point? I also didn't like the sudden pairing of secretary and Mick and Sol and the makeup artist. Till the 11th episode, there were hardly any interaction for a romantic angle between them and then its hinted in the final episode. Overall: 8/10. For the efforts.
Ok, I can't believe I am saying this. But, a big company like iQiyi overlooking a very visible flaw....in episode 4, when Joe thinks of deleting Ming's contact number in his phone it says, 'Delete contract'. Seriously? How come this went unnoticed?
I think I can summarize the entire saga of My Beautiful Man in two sentences: If someone as beautiful as Kiyoi would ever fall in love with me, I would faint. If someone would love me as Hira did, I would die.
I think this series deserves more recognition. I loved both the main characters and understood both of their perceptions at life. Reb was a hopeless romantic, he was inexperienced in love so he believed the fairy tales and happy endings, like in the movies. He imagined love to be magical and pearls and rainbows. He was optimistic about everything. On the other hand, JM was exactly opposite. He was a lifeless soul with no colors. After the heartbreak, he isolated himself from people and finds peace in solitude. He doesn't want anyone to invade his personal space because he doesn't want to get hurt one more time. But, I think Reb and JM deserved each other to bring out a perfect balance. Reb needed a reality check that love isn't always a smooth ride and JM wanted someone to heal his heart. The series was scripted very well with meaningful conversations. Both the actors did a great job as the main characters. Stuck On You is on YouTube so do give it a try. P.S: I don't know why but the actor Yves Flores in some camera angles looks like a younger sibling to Thai actor Yoon of Unforgetten Night. My thoughts.
So, I don't understand the hate this series gets. Many in the comments have said that the series is boring, childish and not mature enough and MilkLove should have got a better script. First of all, we need to understand this is GMMTV's first mainstream GL. MilkLove stood out with their chemistry, that's why they were cast on their own series. And GL is still in the developmental stage unlike BL which has garnered a huge audience worldwide. We must remember that even BLs didn't start with matured characters. BLs initially had school and university setting. Only after the increasing audience for BLs did we get BLs with varied genres. So, give it some time for GLs to do well just like BLs. And GMMTV could have cast another new pair, but MilkLove already had an audience through Bad Buddy and Magic of Zero, so they were chosen. So, don't judge a series based on the comments and watch it if you are really interested. Because imo, this show is worth watching.
It was slow-paced according to me and I understand the reason because I love thrillers and fast-paced shows. But, regardless of my taste in dramas, this drama deserves recognition. It was good to see a Chinese opera backdrop amidst a brewing war from Japan. Both the male leads are incredible actors and their characters made an impact on me. Their bromance and friendship were on another whole level. The story will get pretty dark as it proceeds, you have been warned. It will influence your emotions and cause you pain. Each character is intricate with their own backstory and struggles. No side characters were taken for granted. My favorite characters apart from main leads were Luo Cheng and Ren Xiang. Though I felt so sad Shang Xirui had lost everything that ever mattered to him. This drama will stay with me for a very long time.
The plot reminds me of the Amy Sun's You Are So Sweet cdrama. In that drama also, Amy Sun's character likes an anonymous dubbing artist who turns out to be the male lead.
This short film was an emotional roller-coaster. Both the leads did an amazing job showing raw emotions. I have already seen Shin Bi in Cheer Up. I loved the storytelling.
Min Ha was openly gay though he was bullied by everyone. I think Sang Beom was openly gay in his previous school but he transferred to Min Ha's school because he was bullied. In the new school, he remained a closeted gay and wondered why Min Ha is still frank about his sexuality despite the bullying. Min Ha suffered internally because of the constant bullying and pretended not to care. He has cut his hands several times because he was tired of being alive.
But, Sang Beom always wanted to grow up and be an adult to do things freely. Min Ha, on the other hand, knew the world was cruel even one becomes an adult. That's why he says to Sang Beom to enjoy his adult life alone. Because, just like Peter Pan, Min Ha never wished to grow up. He regretted being alive, so he never really thought about his future as an adult.
Even before going to the trip, Min Ha had already made up his mind to break up with Sang Beom(the bus scene where he looks a bit lost and sad for a moment). When Min Ha gets bullied, Sang Beom also suffered, seeing his lover in pain and not able to help him. Min Ha understood that Sang Beom will get hurt more if they were together.
I truly hope that Min Ha isn't dead and just went on his way to live somewhere else. But, after the break up, Sang Beom didn't want to grow up at all. Because Min Ha held a part of his teenage days and growing up would mean moving on without him by his side. That's why he brought the identity card later in life by giving a hefty fine. He returns to the shore one last time to say goodbye to Min Ha and move on to being an adult all alone.
This short film was much better than most of the BLs out there.
