Where do I start? This episode reminds me when you first get on a Rollercoaster and it starts going steadily higher and higher and higher, your heart beating faster with excitement, hope and promise. It builds until you reach the soaring heights and it feels like you can almost touch the sky. Then suddenly you fall - everything changes in a flash and before you realise it the depths of the unknown swallow you along with your heart.
It started so full of promise. Continuing from the night before... the tender kiss planted on her cheeks.. what a start of sweetness for the morning after.. ( Show, you have forever ruin my standards! 🤣😊) ... the shy smiles exchanged of what transpired the night before... And I love, love, love that they showed Dam's flashback and contrasted it with Fox's flashback. So clever. Dam's flashback was Fox being gentle, tender and loving where Dam ... let's just say I love this girl, who just takes the reins and just goes for it. Booyah !!! 😉😁 Who would have guessed this 999 year old Fox was Outfoxed, in Bed, by a Girl !! Heh heh heh🤭🤣 Dam, You Animal. Puns all intended 🤣😂 Sorry while I blast the air-con here 🤣😂
The promise builds where their relationship has progressed to preparing an ordinary life together. One of my favourite scenes in this episode as they are so smittened with each other, in the restaurant with a city view, calling each other casual nick names, for the first time, that ordinary couples usually use. I can't help but be so mesmerized by Fox who seems to catch all Dam's signals. Saved my beloved Dam from having to wear the pants and approached her first about the nicknames. But the best part of it all and my heart literally sung smiles, is when they both giggled with sweet satisfaction after calling each other Dam-ah and Oppa! Oh man, I will forever hear these nicknames with brand new meaning from now on. For these new lovers, who has been through so much to be together and all it took was calling each other ordinary nicknames into extraordinary meaning. It's so simple yet momentous.
And then there is the blue marble and all that it represents. I was so excited when he was holding it with fascination and we learn that it is nearly all blue! The hopes and dreams of these lovers so visible for me, as a viewer that I can't help but to root for them, to hope and dream along with them. Their conversation is something I've forgotten I love about this drama and that is the importance of communication. Simply Love this.
When FoxDam landed in the back of Hye Sun's car, I could not stop giggling, not only because of the comedy that ensued but the realization that he is losing his gumiho powers! Yes!!!! He must be on his way to being human! Of course when Fox teleported Hye Sun while she was in the buffet line and she blurted out instantly that she wasn't a test dummy - I nearly choked on my breakfast! I had tears in my eyes from laughing! 🤣😂 It was pure comedic genius!
When you realise these star-crossed lovers are making plans for the future, when thoughtful fox is planning to quit his job by the end of the semester and thinking of a new job that will not be an obstacle for the love of his life - As a viewer I am invested in this future that they are carving out. I start to have visions of them planning about meeting her parents, her brother, about marriage, about little foxdam babies....Happy Happy times ahead...my heart, it is flying for this couple. Nothing seems impossible for them now.
FoxDam's Guardian Angel, Hye Sun believing that Fox losing his power meant, like her, he was turning human. Making me, this mere mortal so very happy for Oppa. What more our dear Fox, he could not hide his happiness that there is a real possibility and no longer a 999 year old fake dream. I also love that Hye Sun is genuinely excited in anticipation for Fox to turn human. Without Gumiho's power, I thought she might not be so happy about that.
Throughout this episode, the many human emotions that Fox expressed was moving. You see his journey grow fruition and you're enjoying it's sweet taste after so many episodes. From his banmal teasing, his shyness, his embarrassment, his sexual human desire, his protectiveness, being scolded😆, his thoughtfulness... so many emotions... like when he admitted to Dam as well "To be honest, it's awkward and embarrassing for me too. But I like feeling such emotions too." I wanted to walk into the screen and admit to FoxDam..Me too!!!... Because I felt all of it too..I'm one crazy audience!!!!🤣🤩
Why is it so sexy that protective Fox was not a clingy lover? That he was totally fine with letting our beloved Dam comfort Soo Kyung instead of spending time with him? Especially when he had such important news to share with her. Fox Oppa, you ruin me, now my operating standard procedure is way too high🤣
I have to commend writer-nim. This question posed by Dam. "What do you want to do most when you become human?" Why does this question move me? Is it a question that one ponders about your purpose in life? What makes you tick? What makes you feel alive? Not just living each day but alive? I can't put my finger on it but it just has this personal pull for me. And when Fox is pondering this question just walking along a random street and realising that receiving your family at a bus stop, being a father, having a family, buying a gift for your lover, celebrating birthdays with friends... the normal ordinary human connection...Not going to lie, I had tears in my eyes when I realise such ordinary events have such a tremendous meaning to someone who has lived more than 999 years, in want of nothing.
Can this Happiness get even happier? A pay off right after Soo Kyung fussed about Fox not having expressed his love. I was so happy. I did not expect Fox once again to read her mind, received her signals. I liking Fox's powerful radar 😁 I don't care what anyone says, that was the sweetest confession in kdramaland and I wanted to hug him myself. Please throw in some happiness tissues too. I was giddy when Oppa, with Jang Ki Yong's intoxicating deep masculine voice said "Dam-ah" ( Not Dam-shi, I swear My heart skipped a beat... so sweeeeeeeet) he continued "I thought I wouldn't mind quietly disappearing from this world. But you made me want to live. I always found it uncomfortable being with someone, but I like having you around. Seeing you hurt makes me angry, and going to pick you up when you are drunk, doesn't bother me at all. That's right. This is me... saying I love you." So perfect.... so perfect... And it's nothing fancy but every word so ordinarily fitting their love story like a glove.
I really had trouble expressing the end of episode 15. I was on a high. The whole episode except for the tiny end it kept building my hopes and held so much promise. Granted it is my fault for begging to be spoilt the ending of the webtoon...thus I did not see this coming. It was like I was hit by a bus. When Fox could not see his blue marble, seeing his disappearing hands, his disappearing face in the bus photo, his disappearing professor name tag... I panicked!!!. The previews of ep 16 , seeing both Hye Sun comforting an uncontrollable crying Dam and Fox alone in the corner crying his heart out - ripped my heart out. I was shaking for a moment there when I realise there is a possibility this might not end the way that I expected it to end.
To be honest, at the back of my mind, There was one payoff that I did not see happen and that is I don't think Dam knows the consequence of a Gumiho not making it to the humanrace before his 1000 years of age. But I thought with the mountain spirit hint about the jacket and the weather I was excited to see how this drama will be different in their ending. How they will pull off happiness upon happiness to a climactic end. I was totally blindsided. I am still processing this ending to ep 15. I'm going to leave it as it is because I don't see anyway of reconciling what just happened without watching the finale.
