Nah me too, the beginning was all fun and heart flutters but now we get to see each of them work for their love,…
Yes, I like how you describe their love story. I feel that too. I love Dam and I love Fox's each individual charactersBut together, together it's so so so much more. I think, right now, for me at least, it is one of the most epic love stories in kdramaland. I love the philosophical and human struggle that is beautifully told here. A loner humane fox who didn't care much to be human. This premise pulled me to this show. I care if he wants to be human, I care why he wants to be human. I care how did he want to be human. I care when he wanted to be human. A young woman who is inexperienced in love but so full of life, maturity, fiercely independent, true to herself, direct, honest, genuine, courageous and spunky. I care whether or not she would be the one to change the fox. I care how she would be the one to make fox see what it is like to be human. I love how we as an audience get to see how he falls for her. I love how we as an audience get to see all the failings and trappings of an intimate relationship, of human love and all that it entails - the good, the bad, the beautiful and the ugly. All the mistakes he would make, all the struggles they would face together or apart, how deep her love must be to love a fox, how his centuries-lived life was turned on its head by a spunky young woman. I love that both are inexperienced in love. How pure their love is. I didn't expect to be given important lessons of human vulnerabilities. It's a thoughtful drama. It elevates this drama from being not just an ordinary love story. Fantasy is just a plot mechanism to show the power of humanity. I feel I need this in my life - to realise how important it is to be alive, how special it is to be human. And that we never stop learning to live a well- lived life.
I've been listening on repeat "Next to you" by Yang Da Il. The latest song released in the OST. I love it so much. The voice, the melody.. the English lyrics. It suits the love story of FoxDam. https://youtu.be/GNOk1Ln598sI Lyrics - I never once told you that I love youAnd all of my true feelingsThat I haven’t showed you yetBut now I will go to you, go to youLike our first encounter that went awry with the cold windI was afraid I wouldn’t be able to see you againSo again today, I’m pacing back and forth in your memoriesAs I waitPlease let me protect you forever like thisWhen the past memories call out to youPlease look back onceI’m spending another night filled with you todayEven if the pain makes us cry again some dayDon’t go far away from me nowDon’t erase me, I’m looking at youAnd I love youPlease let me protect you forever like thisWhen the past memories call out to youPlease look back onceI’m spending another night filled with you todayEven after the long night passesI’ll be waiting for you, standing right hereUntil alwaysPlease let me protect you forever like thisWhen the passing time makes you stopPlease remember just onceMy heart that stayed up all night with you
Predictions for ep 13Having scrutinized the previews for ep 13. Looks like fox Woo Yeo looked weak to the point he couldn't stand up - his clothes looked like kimchi date day. Did he teleport back home to avoid Dan catching them in her bedroom then got hit by this weakness? He just spent some skinship with her, did he need more? Rewatching ep 12, looks like next scene after kimchi day was in uni, his co-worker approached him again for coffee and this time he gave a look. Also his clothes with co-worker, same as the photo of them in the coffee shop holding hands and when Sun Woo caught them walking together. Is this a flashback that would explain why he used his co-worker's for energy? Then there is this line in the preview- fox's voice"The marble has changed so I had a vain dream" we see him kimchi date clothes, in his home office through the window reflection his marble was blue???? So timeline wise , kimchi date he first noticed his marble turned blue in him yet he hasn't turn human, still blue during her overnight trip? Is that why puppy fox didnt want her to go on the trip? He needed to figure things out with her? Still blue during confrontation with Sun Woo then caught with co-worker then the infamous break up? So he never got the chance to explore this blue marble thing with her? Why did it turn blue? And why hasn't he turn human? My heart breaks for Fox Woo Yeo! Hye Sun seem to be in his office after the break up because he is wearing the same clothes as when they broke up. ( I love this scenes as they discuss gumiho things 🤣 Hye Sun voice "She's human of course she doesn't understand the situation" I guess he is telling hye sun about the break up. Puppy fox looks terrible... aigooooooo (sorry sidetracked) Fox in leather jacket ? His voice "I'm sorry." "I like you." He and Dam hugging. Doesn't necessarily look like they reconcile just him apologizing?Looks like Hye Sun again to the rescue. Talking to Dam in a Cafe? Hye Sun's voice "the marble started to turn blue" Dam's voice "if someone can save him that would be me" So how much did Hye Sun say? Just the marble? Explain why he got so desperate? Why he kept this from her ? Did she tell her fox would die soon if he doesn't turn human? How much did she tell her???? Gahhhhhhh this not knowing is killing me. Hye Sun's voice"You might be the only one who can make him humane" and then previews showing Dam and fox reconcile? Because Dam is smiling but he stills looks worried though. 4 more days to episode 13. These 3 days have already been hell..argghhhhh What do you think? What are your predictions?
These are not filler episodes. They are actually presenting the main issue of the drama now. This is why those…
I have not read the webtoon and i agree with you that these latest episodes represent the main issues. I like every episode because every episode builds to where we are now. I can't wait for the next episode.
Loving someone never gives you the right to ignore their wishes and invade their personal space. What you have…
Thank you. What you said is important. As someone who has worked in women's shelter and sarc before, this romanticized narrative of sun woo is deeply disturbing. All kinds of red flags go off when I see this type of behaviour.
Mind explaining that a bit I think know what your saying I just want to make sure I'm on the same page
That's where I really see that we are indeed watching a different drama.
In earlier episodes He asked Hye Sun to keep an eye on her because she was in mortal danger of the evil Maegu. That's legit no age gap here grandfather granddaughter here.
He then decided because she would never be safe with him (taking her energy would harm her) and at this point she became significant in his life, he let her go back to her ordinary life with much pain to him to have to let her go. Because at this point of the drama,, for the first time in his centuries old life, he missed her, she became significant to him. For the first time, he became someone significant to someone else. So when Hye Sun told him that Dam cried right after he removed her memory, with feelings that he had for her he then decided to be her substitute professor not knowing at that time that he failed to remove her memories. And I'm glad he did keep an eye on her as that gave him opportunity to find out that Dam was suffering faking that she didn't remember him. That resolved all the hurt and misunderstanding that Dam felt when he did that.
As for the overnight trip, he is feeling insecure because of the red string. That humans are meant to be with humans and as a fox he is helpless to cheat fate. There is an added desperation as he does not have much time left to spend with the love of his life.
Calling each other Sir and Miss Dam was when they were roommates, when they had no intimate feelings. Of course as the relationship progressed it became a term of endearment. Because that's how they met, like a nickname. Dam does not treat him like a grandfather - you don't kiss your grandfather and be all jumping in your bed happy. You don't tease him and ask your grandfather to hold your hand in the office. When you look at Jang Ki Yong does he look like a grandfather? I don't see the looks as a factor either.
She is forthright with the fox too. That's what I love about her - Her honesty, true to herself, Her courage. She doesn't hold back. Everytime the fox retreats because he is scared to hurt her, she gets this courage to hold his hand and tell him that they will figure it out together eventhough she is scared she could lose her life for skinship with her boyfriend.
It's incorrect that the fox does not tell Dam "anything" about his life. That is simply not true if you follow the drama. I can't list them all on here there is so many things he has told her about himself. Just the latest episode, he tells her he never had a childhood. He has been unchanged. He brags to her about his alcohol intake in the joseon era, I could go on and on..
He does not expect full autonomy over her life. You have a fox that is running out of time, soon to die if he doesn't become human. Finally after centuries of not looking for human relationships, a loner. Falls in love for the first time. And there is this red string that human belongs with human fated love would be swept away from him by destiny. With the time he has left he wants to spend as much ordinary life with her as he can as he can never be part of her ordinary future. So yes he admits he gets jealous. He asked Hye Sun to keep an eye in case the red string forces this relationship that Dam has repeatedly been against. Nothing grandfatherly granddaughterly about that.
Even under the normal circumstance any normal boyfriend would be protective of your girlfriend who has a creepy guy who can't take no for an answer. Who keeps confessing his love for your girl after repeatedly being told by her she has a boyfriend. Any human man would be insecure as well. Let alone a red stringed fated love to complicate your relationship when you have only months to live.
Also there are commenters who have called the fox a pedophile. I was also addressing this as well in referencing the actual age.
So I do not see an age gap that you describe. From the looks of it it feels like we are watching a different drama.
Mind explaining that a bit I think know what your saying I just want to make sure I'm on the same page
Yes if the fox acted like a teenage boy I would think it's out of character too! Totally get you, I would be turned off too. I also enjoy both couples. Both couples bring different kind of joy to my life 😂🤣😘
Thank you. 101% with you on it. I was starting to think I was watching a different drama with those who are so…
I noticed Jang Ki Yong after My Mister when My Mister was airing years back. It was memorable eventhough he was just a side character. His performance blew me away. Portraying a violent debt collector gangster and yet I still empathized with this complex villian. That really caught my attention. It was Park Morgan that stole my heart, in search www. I think it was maybe 3 months ago. Not only because of his chiseled good looks but he brilliantly portrayed Park Morgan. I cried, I laugh, I smiled like an idiot. I loved this more matured, slice of life, women power drama. How about you? When did he capture your heart?
Mind explaining that a bit I think know what your saying I just want to make sure I'm on the same page
The age gap for one thing. I don't understand the concern there. The actors are both in their late 20s, Jang Ki Yong is only 2 years older than Hyeri. This is about a 999 year old nine tailed fox, it wouldn't make sense for him to not have a matured persona. His character is one that has cultivated morals and honor for centuries. Every human quality he has he mimics. If you watch the drama, that is his character. Also he is not experienced because he is not human, had not gone dating or human relationship, he had only 2 contacts in his mobile. There is no power imbalance because despite gumiho's powers, Dam has always had the upper hand. He had to always choose between being selfish vs sacrificing his happiness for the bigger picture. Also unlike animals, humans choose their own destiny.
Then there is Dam. She is in her early 20s, in university, not a child but an adult. Her family motto is to be independent. I don't understand the age gap concern. This is a fantasy romantic comedy. No one in the universe is older or similar age gap with him. I don't see anyone concern about Hye Sun and Jae Jin's age gap. And also 700 years old age gap.
Actually in ep 11 he has been as forthcoming as she is. However in ep 12 he did not disclose he saw her dream…
I think it is important to note during the photobooking, we viewers saw him look at the 5 photos of her childhood and what was in his mind was the conversation they had where Dam told him she was worried for him. Because she would grow old eventually die and he would be left behind. I guess noble idiocy comes in where he thinks it is best he resigned to his fate and disappear because then it removes the source of her worry. This is reaffirmed because he has seen the dream and how happy she will be in her fated love with Sun Woo. He wanted her happiness and security above all else, even if he ceases to exist.
Actually in ep 11 he has been as forthcoming as she is. However in ep 12 he did not disclose he saw her dream…
I agree with you too. He made a big mistake not trusting her, not telling her his circumstance. He had no reason to not trust her as she has laid bare everything to avoid misunderstandings and assure him that he is the one she picked time and time again over her fated love. That is why I understand Dam wanting to break-up. He hurt her and I'm disappointed in him. I think overall the writers did well, the stakes are definitely higher with him making this mistake and as a consequence this break-up. This is his journey to being human. He has to go through these emotions. He has feel the loss, go through the heartbreak, suffer through the heartache of losing the trust of the one you love. He has to realise what he did wrong. And experience the consequence of making a mistake like this. This is also for Dam to be informed of his secret. This would help her understand the fox more and what he is going through to be with her. He has been living for centuries with little human consequence. I find this to be a brilliant move by the writers. Gives the fox an impetus to turn human as I feel he was giving up, resigning to his fate. What Dam said to him during the breakup was powerful, it ripped my heart out and I could feel the same for the fox. He needed to see what he has done , how much he hurt her , how wrong he was and her thought process. I'm hoping next episodes we will get the pay off.
Actually in ep 11 he has been as forthcoming as she is. However in ep 12 he did not disclose he saw her dream…
Yes definitely felt that too that it looked like he was giving up hope. I think that decision was early on, as I remember it, when hye sun asked her to just get energy elsewhere to which he dismissed it and he exasperatedly told hye sun his dilemma - Which is how can he break her heart by telling her - I'm dying, give me your energy but you might die too by giving me your energy. It's an impossible situation. It's not clear when he started getting energy from his co-worker but I think it was after he saw the dream. Because I think that's when he felt really hopeless as he is a fox who cannot give her the ordinary carefree life that she deserves. I think that's when he got desperate to get energy elsewhere in order to not harm her, yet able to spend as much ordinary time left with her. If that makes sense. That's all my conjecture at this point.
Actually in ep 11 he has been as forthcoming as she is. However in ep 12 he did not disclose he saw her dream…
I feel the dream made him envious, not jealous. It made him desperate, dejected even. He explained to Hye Sun which was heartbreaking. He said he saw in the dream "Their ordinary day looked nice. They looked like a young couple as they should be, Enjoying their time in peace without any worries. That is something I can't give her." Hye Sun asked him "How much time do you have left" he answers "it'll be over soon, I guess .. ( internal dialog : then I'll disappear without a trace") To me he is feeling hopelessness and powerlessness as well.Even when he explained to Dam about the red string, he said "humans are meant to be with humans" I see him almost resigned to his fate. So all the kimchi making, photobooking together was him desperately trying to spend as much ordinary time he has left with her.
Me too. Big mistake. And he is paying for it now. Yet this is what puts the stake higher. I also think this will…
He did feel betrayal when he saw her at Subway on the phone to him lying to him, hiding that Sun Woo was working with her. He also saw them making subway sandwiches together. Although the betrayal is short-lived because she came clean that very night, you can see through their internal dialog he was hopeful she was at his house to disclose this, got pouty refusing to eat the subway she brought with her. We know after the blackout kiss, she did eventually tell him and then he told her about the red string.
