Pretty much like 'love in contract'.The basic premise is same. FL, ML and annoying 2ML.These dramas don't want…
What I hate is that we know who the male lead is so this whole back and forth thing is really frustrating. Unless they're gonna suddenly do a switcheroo and change the male leads, let the FL and ML have a moment of peace. Love triangles are only fun when the FL is attracted to both and the playing field is even.
lmao the 2nd ml hate... but when it was true beauty most of yall were for the 2nd lead and he has quite same behaviour
The ML actor in this has been playing the 2nd ML in dramas for eternity and most ppl were really happy to see him as the ML yet he's relegated to the 2nd ML role even in this so it's frustrating.
Thanks for the article which was very interesting and has helped me think further about things. I've only just…
Japan never really promotes their content to outsiders (they're still kind of isolationists in that regard), at least not in the aggressive way Korea and China does. I mean they do fine, their film industry is well regarded and music industry is the 2nd in the world. Since the 90s when jdramas first started getting popular internationally, fans have been the ones subbing them. They still do although more dramas are getting relased officially on Viki and Netflix nowadays.
You can scroll to the comments (very below) on a jdrama's info page and you will most likely see an user who says they are going to be subbing them and provide their blog/twitter. Thief sites like dramacool have made many subbers quite and wary so most have their subs protected in a discord server or something else secure. You can see who is subbing what on this guide: https://fansub.d-addicts.com/Jdrama_Fansub_Map
I feel like Netflix is influencing what dramas are being made. What type of shows that the western or American…
This wasn’t aimed at an western audience at all. Jdramas are never marketed towards international audiences. They’re almost always targeting their local audience first and foremost. Hence why there’s still a huge lack of official subtitles for dramas and fans literally have to sub them. Korea and China, especially Korea, are the ones who are conscious of western audiences and change their content to appeal to them. Japan has little desire to appeal to the US.
You do know that other countries use Netflix right? They have their own version of Netflix and Netflix produces dramas for each country’s audience. Sometimes Netflix will make them available in other countries if they see demand or think they have the potential to do well. It’s more common now ever since the surprise hits Squid Game, Dark, and money Heist has become but that’s just a throwaway decision. Netflix isn’t making them with the western audience in mind.
The original uniqueness of jdramas IS how quirky it is. Japan literally has dramas about a girl falling in love with her biological uncle, a wife whose soul gets switched with th heir dead daughter’s soul and tries to make love with her husband/father, a guy who has a smell fetish, etc. You name it and they probably have it. Despite popular belief, American audiences aren’t open minded at all imo. Put a little bit of violence and nudity and it’s all of a sudden Mature rated. France and Japan has had way more hard hitting film and shows and are much more open minded in their entertainment sector.
really hope this and yuguyao are the last teacher-student romance xianxias cause this concept just needs to be…
I’m just waiting for these huge age gaps with kids in their early 20s being paired with 40 year olds to end (not talking about this drama though, the age gap is much smaller than the 17 years I’ve seen in another drama). I’m not saying it can’t work healthily in real life but it takes a lot of work from both parties and it can very easily transform into a unhealthy power dynamic if they’re not careful. Teacher and student relationships are even worse bc there’s an extra layer of power imbalance.
Most dramas (and shows in the west), especially xianxia cdramas with an overused cliche plot are not equipped equipped to realistically portray such a relationship. They just end up glamorizing them to young kids who don’t know any better or using it as a cheap excuse for angst and I’m just over that. The male leads are always hella boring as well while somehow being manipulative af. It baffles me how bland they are. I love Wallace Huo but I was ready to sucker punch the dude in the Journey of Flower.
Please be informed that this article was published while the event was still under investigation by Itaewon's…
Thats why maybe don’t spread news you KNOW is false? Even if you’re not doing it intentionally, the more it’s related the more false news spreads. I’m really tired of this useless speculations and rumors being spread when so many ppl have lost their lives. I hope you’ll understand I’m blocking you for the sake of my sanity and to not further lose hope in humanity. Give it a rest. It’s been 2 days since my conversation with the writer and we both have moved on.
Please be informed that this article was published while the event was still under investigation by Itaewon's…
The writer and I already settled this matter and moved on. Please see the entire thread. Rumors are still rumors. It does no one any good to mention them when they’re still being investigated. And yes, what western publications write matter a lot. It’s where most of the world gets it information from and having international scrutiny on the matter can help in making the government take action and reform their safety planning. It’s really ignorant to say it doesn’t matter how whatever distasteful happens in one country is reported. Why do you think newspapers, tv stations and even crappy social media apps like Facebook and Reddit have world news sections? For shits and giggles?
Why can’t I blame a site writing rumors and speculations as news? If they didn’t want to be taken seriously in the first place, why did they even write about it? No, they were event reporting information as they came out. They just left it there and ppl got confused at the speculations and rumors written in the article. Their information was already old, which the writer themselves confirmed and later updated at my urging. If something is labeled as news, it should only include facts. Communications 101. You’d an speculate all you want in an opinion piece.
Some ppl only said there MIGHT have been a celebrity ppl were rushing to see, which is reasonable to think in a situation like this considering it was being reputed as a stampede at first but they were proven false. Like you said, innocent celebs are getting dragged into it. Just because some Koreans and some Korean news sites are speculating doesn’t mean all Koreans think the same. It’s the same hee in the US where the same event will be covered differently to fit each news stations’s agenda. Most Koreans unanimously agree that the government should’ve taken more care organizing the event and most western publications have acknowledged that.
I merely corrected the writer and acknowledged the fact that I was too aggressive as I have been in a similar situation before and it hit close to home. I apologized to the writer, applauded them for changing their wording and thanked them. I don’t understand what more you want from me.
If the parties who are involved in the conversation have moved on 2 days ago, shouldn’t it be pretty clear that the issue have already been resolved and there’s really no need for a third party to butt in?
This has been an ongoing matter and problem for years. The new administration has been attempting to establish…
Yes I know that. I said as much multiple times by referencing the 2014 Sewol ferry tragedy and the fact that South Korea in general has abysmal safety planning for a developed and wealthy nation. I don’t have anything against the current administration. It’s a widespread problem that has been going on since years before.
If it's like JoF, I hope it's updated or changed a little bit. I loved watching JoF, but man did I hate the ML.…
You’re not alone. I love Wallace Huo but I wanted to sucker punch his character lol. The drama in general wasn’t to my taste with everyone falling in love with the FL but I did like some parts.
Thank you for updating and fixing the article. It’s really a brave and courageous thing to do especially in a time where ppl insist on sticking with their version of the story despite the hurt it may cause, mocking others for being ”woke.” I sincerely appreciate it and recognize that you meant no harm.
I really apologize for being too aggressive. I have been in a similar situation before and it’s frustrating seeing comments and articles from people blaming the victims for partying or how they were selfish or that they wanted to see a celebrity and this happened (not true btw) when it was totally a fault of the government. The actual event Halloween is also not to blame. This literally could’ve happened during any holiday. Sorry for spamming the comments section but it’s something I believe is important to correct. I urge people to read more about the situation from legit reputable news sources instead of drama sites or twitter gossip. That’s all.
We need to STOP FESTIVAL HALLOWEEN 🚫 for good 👿because it isn't a big deal to celebrate in Halloween🎃…
This isn’t a result of Halloween. This could’ve happened for any event. It’s totally a fault of the local government. It would be missing the point to ban Halloween, it wasn’t responsible for event planning or city infrastructure.
“ Crowd safety expert Paul Wertheimer takes care to differentiate between a stampede and a “crowd crush”, pointing out that stampedes are usually created when a crowd is started or fleeing a danger or perceived danger, while a crowd crush is created by the press of human bodies on a central point or points.”
“Stampede is not only an incorrect term, it is a loaded word as it apportions blame to the victims for behaving in an irrational, self-destructive, unthinking and uncaring manner,” Galea says. “It’s pure ignorance, and laziness … It gives the impression that it was a mindless crowd only caring about themselves, and they were prepared to crush people.
“In virtually all these situations this is not the case, and it is usually the authorities to blame for poor planning, poor design, poor control, poor policing and mismanagement.. The truth is that people are only directly crushed by others who have no choice in the matter, and the people who can choose don’t know what is going on because they’re too far away from the epicentre.. The language used after these events is often misleading. This sort of language shifts the blame and responsibility from the authorities to the crowd. At what point did anyone in this crowd think ‘Let’s become a mob’.” They didn’t – they reacted to the extreme density and could not escape, leading to a progressive crowd collapse and mass fatalities.”
Look at how many people rated it. It’s only one person who did. Watch it for yourself.
At the time this person rated it, there were only about 3 eps out on the official Iqiyi website (who are the broadcasters of this drama). They eventually put out all of the episodes and the illegal sites put them on their website as well. It’s impossible for this person to have seen the whole drama when the broadcaster themselves haven’t put anything out.
Please be informed that this article was published while the event was still under investigation by Itaewon's…
So? Isn’t it your job as a writer and publisher to consistently update articles and not keep updated misinformation up? Maybe you could update the article in that case? You could specify that it’s 4000 something missing reports instead of 4000 something missing people. The wording matters a lot in this case, otherwise it sounds like they got last at sea or something. Most of those are your speculation. There aren’t any missing ppl. Just unidentified bodies. This is also still not a stampede. I hope you can change your wording. I know you didn’t mean to victim blame but the word stampede implies that this was a result of panicked rush of a crowd when it was more like there literally wasn’t any room to move and breath.
The word is being used by Korean news stations and government statements to mislead the public and shift the blame to the young ppl who were just trying to have fun but got their lives cut short. Hope you consider that and change it. It’s pretty weird that you still insist on going with your original wording even after multiple ppl corrected you on the title and the missing reports part. You should have full access to changing it considering you’re a publisher and a community manager. Even the Wikipedia article you linked as a source specifies that it was a “crowd crush.”
“ Not to misinform, BUT if you are still in doubt with the number being, '4,024 missing' we can take into consideration that it could either be, phones went unanswered because they were lost during the incident and loved ones couldn't get hold of them, OR some were too hungover from their Halloween night, was unaware and have not kept in touch with their loved ones.”
These are all your speculations. Your job is to only report the facts, otherwise write an opinion piece, not news.
Sometimes people may not intend to be thoughtless, but when someone points it out you should listen. Put yourself…
I wasn’t directing it toward you but it’s still really insensitive to say things like that “out of pure curiosity.” There were no people rushing to see celebrities. I apologize if it came off like I was attacking you. It’s just a really sad and horrific event that could’ve been totally preventable. I know ppl who had friends at the event. It’s still a lot to process so sorry for being too emotional. Simply looking at the videos is horrific and the local news trying to pin this on a celebrity or drugs when it’s the city government’s fault just pisses me off. There are millions of kpop trainees in Korea and most of them were on Produce. People wouldn’t remember all of them especially if you were just a contestant and didn’t make it to the final group and especially wouldn’t be crowding togetherwhen even bigger celebs are seen in Itaewon on a daily basis.
Also, who is writing these articles? You’re spreading misinformation. There aren’t that many 4,024 people missing. Those are just the missing reports filed by family and friends, most of which are for the same person. Once again, THIS IS NOT A STAMPEDE. A stampede is what happened to Simba’s dad in the Lion King. this is a crowd crush, where so many people get packed into a place that it literally becomes impossible to breathe. Shame on you mydramalist for not even fact checking the news you’re spreading and victim blaming the poor youths who has lost their lives bc of incompetent ppl in power.
The local government were already aware a huge crowd would be there. There should have been more police and crowd control in the previous years anyways. Trying to push the blame on the crowd, making excuses about celebrities or drugs causing a stampede, calling the event a stampede is 100% bullshit. It’s a crowd crush, something totally preventable if the government was competent.
Itaewon always has celebrities present. It’s the hip trendy hang out place for anyone that matters. This isn’t a special one time thing. It’s totally a fault on the part of the local government . If you ever seen the big New Years ball drop event in New York, you’ll see how big events like this can go without any accidents when the police and local governments are competent with their job. The NYPD is all over the place directing traffic and there are railings everywhere restricting ppl from certain areas to prevent something like this. Japan has similar tactics in Shibuya. Korea’s safety planning is abysmal for a developed and wealthy nation, the government themselves know this and are trying to cover their behinds like they tried to hide the deaths that occurred in the Sewol ferry tragedy as to not smear their reputation on the international stage. It always takes the the government some type of accident and large number of deaths to finally take change their policies.
Things are still under investigation... As I followed the news one speculation came after the other, first they…

When you start a sentence with, “not to be….” it’s likely you’re doing exactly that and you know it deep down but you’re too much of an asshole to keep it to yourself.
