I really doubt a kdrama is gonna give up its chance at a dramatic love triangle.

I also don't understand the hype. It's just literally your run of the mill poor FL and rich successful ML fall in love but separate bc of their different backgrounds story story + kind 2nd ML who spend the majority of the drama brooding over the FL and glamorous FL who pursues the ML. I mean I love those run of the mill stories despite the cheesiness and don't mind it but everyone was hyping this up to be some life changing drama when it's just the same old recycled kdrama formula??

I will always prefer the mature and melancholy Jiung over the childish ML for the FL. I think you're self-inserting yourself into the male lead and taking things too seriously. She was his first love and that itself is a big deal. It's a deep seated belief in Korea "A man/woman never forgets their first love." I think you're new to kdramas bc it's like romance kdrama rule #1 for both female and male characters to always remember their first love. Even outside Korea, remembering one's childhood crush/first love is the basis of these coming of age, youth stories.

In real life, the heart wants what it wants, people routinely fall in love with those they shouldn't be with according to societal standards (is. poorer/richer than them, younger/older than them, different ethnicity their parents forbid them to date, their enemy/competitor, their best friends' significant other, their step sibling even). You can't really be rational and decide things with what's right and wrong when you're attracted to someone or in love with them. This forbidden attraction is what makes stories exciting and dramatic, k-"drama." I get what you're saying and I would agree in any other kind of genre but I don't understand people who watch romantic stories and get mad when people fall in love and sometimes for the same person, like what were you expecting?? Romance itself is melodramatic, get over it. Love triangles happen all the time, it's the most classic trope even when you go all the way back to the middle ages in all kinds of cultures. Sorry I started rambling and I'm not saying this to you specifically but I'm just sick of all these complaints.

Also, it seems weird to also fault him for getting over his feelings at the end bc of a lady telling him after being mad that he was in love with the FL. He literally did what you wanted him to do so what's the big deal?? Also, it wasn't just bc of the lady, he already started to put a distance between him and the FL when they had lunch at his broadcast station. He could've been shady and pursued her during those years they were separate but he never did. He never selfishly told her his feelings either. He's a really good guy even though I wish he had been more selfish. NJ was also a great character that would've fit the ML better imo. I think part of why he couldn't forget her was bc of him feeling inferior to the ML even though he loves him like a brother. It isn't just a love triangle at play but a study of their relationship as found brothers. Another reason why I love love triangles is bc it gives the audience a chance to explor these complex emotions and relationships using two characters falling in love with the same person as a metaphor.

If you're so pressed about the FL being mean, why are you angry at the best friend's character crushing on her?? I rooted for them to be together and for the immature ML to be with the equally immature and spoiled idol NJ. The FL was always too mature and had the burden of poverty on her and she would've been a much better match with Ji-ung who had the same experience or the manager guy who was more practical about the world.

I guess the writer and the viewers like the opposites attract thing bc otherwise there would not be any drama. It's interesting that you frame the FL as this kind person when Jiung is just as kind and caring towrads both the leads. He literally films the documentary just to get them together? He forces them to be together for the documentary despite knowing they still have feelings for each other and will inevitably date again.

Aside from everything he did to help these two stubborn idiots reconcile, he also never once mentions his feelings (until Ung accidentlh finds out himself) and still never tells them so Yeonsoo remains forever unaware. He also had plenty of opportunities to go after her during the years they broke up if he was such a bad person but never did. There's like way more annoying 2nd MLs in dramas like She Was Pretty who keeprs forcing their feelings on the FL even after she rejects but Jiunf just literally has a one sided cursh on her and never tires anything. She never even knows about it so I really don't get the outrage. Just like FL learns to be less prickly, the ML more mature, NJ more genuine, Jiung learns to be less constipated about his feelings and lets go of his love for someone that will never be his. Like this is a coming of age story about young people in their 20s growing and making mistakes. I don't understand the need for emotionally mature and perfect characters who love the people they should like like robots.

Bullied her to the point of her trying to commit suicide. Hyunjoo didn't say anything, but her younger brother made a lengthy post talking about the bad atmosphere within the team from pre-debut and how it pushed her to take drastic action.

April members would've been able to get some sympathy if they just admitted that the company had them in a bad environment where they were forced to see her as competition because as the visual she was getting 'special treatment'. However, in their statements, they doubled down, insisted they did nothing wrong, and essentially admitted to the bullying by saying Hyunjoo was a bad teammate and they had no choice but to ice her out.

Worst part was when they said they knew she was in the hospital after a suicide attempt yet the only thing they could think about was what an inconvenience she was causing them since they had to rearrange choreography. Truly horrid.

The members + DSP filed defamation claims against Hyunjoo and her minor younger brother, but the court dismissed all of them (7 in total).

What's sad is Hyunjoo is still in semi-hiding and barely gets any activities because she's likely labelled as 'problematic' in the industry for speaking the truth. April fans STILL harrass her whenever she is active.

However Naeun is signed to a big company, dated a top football player (Lee Kangin), and is continuing to live happily. Don't even get me started on Kard Somin who was the main perpetrator according to Hyunjoo's brother and whose career is unscathed. Funnily enough, the only member she visibly doesn't get along with in Kard is Jiwoo, the only other female member.

Before it was edited, there were random stuff about her dating rumors that were never confirmed and her brother getting arrested. It's been changed now after years of begging the admin to change it but you can see people's comments from years ago talking about how weird it is. I also commented on it 2 years ago.

Another famous japanese actress has a tidbit about her bullying girls for their weight and while it seems to be true (based on Japanese news articles), there is no function on MDL to see the sources of these claims. It's hard to if the writer of these biographies are telling the truth or not. All I'm saying is take these fan written biographies with a grain of salt and do your own research.

No, she did not lie. What the hell are you talking about?? DSP and the members of April who were accused of bullying her all sued her and her brother for defamation with 7 lawsuits and lost all of them. The court dropped all of their cases. If you know Korea's defamation law, it is very easy to win them unless your are straight up making things up. Even rapists who are actually convicted can then turn around and sue their victims for defamation.

A literal police investigation concluded that hyunjoo's statements are all true she was bullied but you still have braindead fans going around attacking her. There could be mountains of evidence that an idols is a bully but then one fan will post something like "My cousin is friends with this idol's cousin's dog and they said the bullying accusations are a lie and the idol is an angel" and then the rest of the fandom blindly believe the post and start attacking the victim.

None of April's members were really that famous even Naeun so the general public moved on. The only people that even talk about the case are people who are still fans of April that hate Hyunjoo for leaving the group and have since changed the narrative with false tweets. Don't compare this to T-ara. They had a shitty company that threw the girls to the wolves. T-ara members didn't even file a defamation suit agaisnt the Hwang sisters. DSP literally tried to paint all the members of April besides Naeun as bullies and save her bc she was the only one making a little bit of noise. They even tried to lie and say the rest of April bullied Naeun and Hyunjoo together when Naeun was literally the head bully along with that Somin girl from Kard (who was worse than Naeun that DSP had to move her to a new group to avoid further drama in April). Didn't work becuse Naeun just took over Somin's bullying because DSP never adressed the root issue of the toxic environment in that group. It was literally investigated and proven by the police that Naeun with members of April did bully Hyunjoo.

I don't agree with this PrettyCarEye lunatic but I also think the story of this drama is more realistic to South Korean society. They're very patriarchal and anti feminist so it makes sense that a woman would be solely valued by her beauty in that world and have to use it as a weapon. I think your critique is spot on but we also have to understand the reality of woman in the corporate world in South Korea. It's highly unlikely for a woman to be allowed to go high enough up the food chain and gain access to confidental files in just 16 eps in a Korean conglomorate like the one in Eve.

A woman can be more than qualified for the position but places like Korea and Japan are notorous for sexist practices like purposefully rigging university test results in order to have their male students be the top scorers.
