Same time frame and same historical characters - it is related.

@rainruma There was one scene were So tells how he envied his younger brother bc his mother told him stories and cuddled with him. So she behaved like mother and scenes with older brother show this too. Yes she pushed her ambitions to older son but not to younger one. She is selfish and greedy but she still was mother to thous two.....To So she was more like villain...still he longed for her.
And I cant figure out why she didnt grabbed her older son when she threatened king bc with older son her impact would have been stronger.
Why was So special? What was reason? Bc older son was right there, next to them.

I agree with this analyzis but ...I think main turn was somewere else, even before HS come into past, actually it was reason why she was able to come.
I suspect that what happened with astronome when he was young \ he died and went to future him, whom we saw in first episode and came back to past\ What happened to So in same time? By that flashback about CP, astronomer and So siting and looking on stars we get to know that astronomer already then knew future, so his going happened before that and before So got that scar. How much before? Maybe when So was born?

It is still unclear why mother attacked kid So. not his older brother or why he hated him all his life. She loved her two other sons , older and younger dearly. It wasnt only kings new marriage, at that time having multiple wives was normal, not worth that kind ruckus.She is selfish and arrogant and total b... but she was good mother to thous two.... Maybe So isnt her son? but adopted one? There must be some secret more why she hates him so strongly all her life.
We have here two weird things - astronomers trip to future and So mothers weird behaviour. Im kinda sure that first one was reason why there was need for HS in the past, something went very wrong despite astronomers try to not change past events...I think he still has done something what made it change drastically, so there was need for something that would fix it somehow. HS is that "something".
It would be interesting twist....and fits well with some theories about time and fit well with this theory what you posted about her premonitions and how thous become true or change.
If Mother didnt hate So, then one who went to be hostage would have been Yo, older brother. then So would have been raised by mother be like Yo is now and he becoming 3th king and being cruel and bloodthirsty would have been logical outcome.Yo didnt have "kings star" but "traitors star" in original. Still now son who was raised by mother to become king - become king but it was wrong son....time flow was changed and this change might change future a lot. Despite that people who were destined to die - die in new timeline too and they die even if timeline starts to be fixed, it is their fate. But thngs what So was destined to do....Yo never do thous and time got broken.Somehow this future doesnt meet its goals. But to keep So like he was now near palace and not to become owner of his brothers "traitor star" there was need for reason. His mothers hate and awkwarness of brothers and his scarred personlity would have pushed him to revolt or got him killed. That something is HS who is needed to fix him to be able keep his "king star" but HS of past wasnt girl who could do this, she was submissive, quaiet and not strong enough girl to make any impact to So personality now....so, she died and was replaced with HS from future, who was fit to carry out this task....to make that tiny change and push time back to its tracks.

This all is possible if there was something what become from past to future and back to past - aka astronomer make that fluke in pasttimeflow - he changed something what shouldnt been changed....but what?

But this is just mine theory....writer might have different thoughts :D

I agree with this comment, it supports what i have posted somewere earlier.
Dfference, main one, between R from BBJX and HS from SH is that one didnt change anything, just submitted to fate, other changed flow of history, tiny bit but still. Now is clearly revealed that in the original flow of time from what HS comes there wasnt 3th coming king after CP but 4th. Still all persons who died still die but reason and cause are different, change of impact may seem nearly none but if you remember "butterfly effect" then it might still a little bit change future from were she comes be better.

SH aired later, so SH is remake of this and both are adaptions of same novel.

No, it aired before SH. Both are adaptations of same novel.....you might say SH is remake of PtLHJ

to build up character is needed time, in Korean version they dont have that much time like they have in Chinese version.
And in Korean version all events happen in shorter time span than in chinese version were all this took years and years and years. Of couse heroine changes and matures within this time frame more and of course drama with 35 episodes gives to actor more time do develop her character and to director wider playground, same with scriptwriter.
I believe that in the end of kdrama all main characters have changed and developed enough.
p.s. LJK and IU chemistry is strong in this drama.

p.s.s. For me BBJX was kinda draggy and partly i got bored, it isnt bad drama but i felt need to skip some parts bc they didnt give anything to story or to characters.

I have seen c-version and It was good but....had some aspects what annoyed me.
Too much coldness, calculating and fake stiff morale ( last one is usual flaw of Chinese dramas, at least for me).
K-version isnt remake, I repeat - it isnt remake of Chinese drama. Both of them are adaptations of Chinese novel but with different degree.
C-version follows very closely novel and has big number of episodes bc of this.
K-version uses novel like seasoning to tell story about Korean history and has much less episodes for it.
Thous are different degrees and angles.With less episodes there is less time for all sideline stories and characters, you even must cut some completely off and mix some into one.Main focus goes to main storyline and characters. New setting (time and place and cultural differences) for story brings in details what isnt in original and need different approach from original.
So it is normal that people who started watch k-version in hopes to find copy feel disappointed or people who are big fans of chinese historical but not korean historical feel awkward .and i dont blame them, people are different, with different preferences and tastes.
Just try watch k-version like separate thing from c-version, what it actually is.

p.s. Btw c-dramas have a lot of fanservice too but it is pointed to different target and is different kind, similar what was used in USSR entertainment, it is very noticeable.
I prefer korean sytle fanservice (just mine preference) it at least pleases mine eye and doesnt give ME feeling that somebody tries to force me into tiny box.

I think so too. She confesses to save HS life and bc of this she has chance to ask forgivness. WS gives her support bc he knows she is innocent. It has big impact bc he was victim.
Evil Queen is ok with this outcome too bc that old lady has been her rival in the past and still annoys her now.

Im kinda sure that his foster family only didnt send killers after him or trapped him with wolves. They tried to get rid of him seriously and this means poison too.He comes from life what was like hell. So he must be ready for this and i mean with it that he surely has rised his poison resistance.
What would have killed CP isnt enough to kill him. Add here that palace has physicans who has good skills dealing with poisonings, big part of their job.

For Wang Wook it was first "eyecandy" then big guilt mixed with responsibility from promise and temptation but she doesnt add anything to his family power, it is opposite now. all this makes him passive. But game changes when there is rival, he considers her already his and like with Lady he is type who understands value of person to him only after he has lost it or is on verge of losing.
Lady.....I hope you havent forgotten that this is time when rich and powerful men had more than one wife? So, she isnt feeling bad about Wook having second wife. She knew that she cant bear a child to him, this was very big flaw, she could give him only support of her family. She was kinda ok with thought that Wook marries HS, she supported it bc she liked HS, she knew that she treats Wook well and can give him kids, add here that she was from same family than her, so support wouldnt fade for him. Only thing what made her sad was when she saw how Wook watched HS. It was gaze she never got from him, she understood that she wasnt never loved by him....THAT made her sad.

In history 3th went against royal family when he become king.....and there is one interview with hints that it might go this way in drama too...
3th and 4th have same parents, same blood....

But lets play " what if..."
What if in drama, there in future killer was 4th but now past has changed and instead 3th becomes evil one.

What if for timeflow it doesnt matter witch one is evil and kills bc outcome is same .
But we see soon how it goes in drama.

@rainuma .Like i said their differences in personalities depend from many-many factors and reasons....and one is difference between Chinese customs and traditions in society from Korean ones in king Taejo time.

This is one thing what makes Ruoxy and HS different - time and place were they end up.

Nearly same kind situation with time and place form were they come, here differences arent so big but they exist.

In Chinese version she lamented that in that society she can not have control over her own life, in Korean version she laments that she dont want others mess with her right to have control over her freedom to control her life itself. There is difference, tiny but still - it is there. One can not have and other dont want it taken away, I hope this difference would be same until end but...

Now we can discuss only differnces between them what are in the beginning, we dont know what way korean version takes. So final discussion comes only after kdrama ends.

Of course is novel more like chinese drama - they are creations of same country and culture, it is kinda natural.
And im glad to hear that in novel Ruoxy is more impulsive than in cdrama. In mine imagination it fits this character better but this is just mine opinion.

Both of them: Ruoxy and Hae Soo are interesting and captivating characters, both in their own way :D

I was kinda ok with her in drama but not fan. Im very curious how her personality is written in novel. I know that some first parts are translated.

I think differences of their, Ruoxi and HS, personalities depend from many-many factors and reasons :D

Ruoxi is submissive....like you said she understood that being submissive is way to survive. She has accepted many things what she didnt like and first was against...in the end she gave in.
About her defing emperors.....this is one side of submission, she accepted that history doesnt have her in annals - so she caccepted that she cant have what is to become. She submissed to her fate, to rules n court, fates of princes bc she know for history they must die. She only tried make it less painful or cruel - thats all. She calculates all time what is good for history, what is good for her or to her loved one but doesnt defy hstory. This makes her somewhat cold and timid.

HS is more impulsive and younger, she has accepted many rules but only bc not accepting them hurts people around her, not bc she wants survive.
I think you noticed that she learned alot, how to speak, how to read and write, how to behive in palace, how to make remedies of thet time....and all this in kinda short time, so she IS quick learner. She has made use all skills what she has learned in future and skills what she learned there in past, so she is smart.

@rainuma ... he kisses her bc she matters to him, her opinion matters...but he feels that she builds wall between them and his words doesnt reach to her, he doesnt understand reason why but he doesnt want lose her.
She has been already long time to him somebody to notice. First he was surprised, then amuzed, then interested and now he starts respect her, Im sure in this bc of how story should go and what kind character HS is.
In chinese version she was more submissive and accepting, she knew history facts from start and could move to forward in easier way. This made her seem more clever but she wasnt much. Add here age differences, in chinese version she was bit older and more time in past when struggle of princes start. In Korean version she knows some blurry facts about founder of Goreyo and his son who killed brothers and family members, she knows his king name but doesnt remember his birthname. So moving around and forward is more harder and scary for her. Its not that she is stupid, she is clever on her own way and she is a lot more impulsive and less calculating than in chinese version.

This all is why she is so fitting for HS role, who was harassed and betraied in future-past and now in new body, in new world for her, tries fight for all what is dear to her, tries make change...
I think her and HS character are somewhat similar and her looks fit role what starts from innocent and clueless teens and goes thru years to come.
Her acting skills arent on top professional level but she isnt professional actor but singer-song writer. Still her skills are ok and bit more. There are real actrisses in main roles who act many levels worse.

p.s. From behind-the-screen videos is visible that all our prince-boys has some kind crushes for IU. It shows that her personality is charming ... eee...I mean good ;)
