I am on ep 4. The interlude piano music and scene intercuts scenes diminish the integrity of the episodes, and…
Nefarious is a strong word. Huiquan is basically allusion to companies like Tencent. Like I mean all those mmo/gacha makers that make gamer addicts spent too much money are basically the same yet they are all still able to operate freely and legally despite horror stories of gamers spending too much money on those predatory games. That professor is no different than lawyers for companies like EA who make predatory loot boxes. The issue is why governments are tolerating such obvious predatory practices? Oh right because huge tax money from such practices.
Still waiting for a few eps to build up before I binge watch. Reading some good stuff from other sources about…
Many Chinese dramas like these in the past don't get picked up by web drama streaming service, many don't get translated. They are on Chinese television though.
My initial impression of this drama was and continues to be that it is very bland, Dilraba’s fantastic acting…
Unfair comparison. Ordinary Greatness is just a cop drama, it's not based on real cases. This one is paid for by People's Procuratorate which shows real case they worked on and the purpose is to educate the masses about things like fraud, how various govt agencies worked, relationship between regulators and big companies, etc. Of course it would feel like documentary in style and is meant for domestic viewers. Straight up educational videos or documentaries are boring for most people, they will not watch it voluntarily, this is why CCP is using these drama format so more people would watch it.
The lengthy discussion and conversation have become a drag. Was wondering whether I am watching a documentary.…
You should watch "Definitely not Today" it's based on real case as well. The thing about this drama is it meant to be educational for domestic views. Like for example that long complete speech about fraud that's like addressed to old people lol. Heck, few years ago these kind of things wouldn't even be translated mostly (such as Roving Inspection Team for example).
Gaming addiction among minors and young adults is a huge social issue and subject of intense debate in China.…
Well yeah, but China system allows Xi to actually uproot those protective umbrella if he wants to, but the system in "democratic" countries don't allow their president to do the same because they are powerless (the so called "checks and balance" from a lot of people who can be bribed) there. Even if a president knows that many members of his own party or other parties are corrupt there is absolutely nothing he can do because he need their votes. Therefore if the majority are already corrupt there is no hope of ever getting rid of corruption and it will only become worse, and to win elections you need a lot of money too which encourage politicians to take bribes.
While Xi is able to uproot Jiang's corrupt cliques, democracies are unable to do this drain the swamp thingy ever.

Gaming addiction is also equally a problem in other countries, especially other east asian countries. Japan probably has a higher % of population who are game addicts or even like neet who just stay home and game all day. South Korea also has horror stories regarding of game addictions. what The difference there is that the government can not and will not intervene much so no one talk about it. China is unique because the government is stronger than the wealthy private businessmen/corporations (unlike in democracies where those rich tycoons are the ones bankrolling the politicians who then form government, and thus form a protective umbrella), therefore they can do something about it.
Zhao Ji Kai is definitely a villain/antagonist. Backed by someone more powerful than the chairman, possibly a corrupt politician or a gangster boss. I watched a lot of these type of cdrama I can smell that from far away. The unclear one is whether Li Yitang will also actively participate in wrongdoings in the future, but more likely probably will just be a Meng Yu (from Knockout) type of character.
Chairman Yin is still unclear, still have possibility to be a Lin Man Jiang (from People's Property) type of character. Professor Luo seems righteous but he was shown to be willing to do unethical thing such as attempting to trick/blackmail Xiaobei's dad. Could still be Gao Yu Liang (from In the name of the People) type, who was also professor who used to be righteous.
Guaranteed good people are An Ni, her mom, and her deputy Han Xuan, He Luyuan and his female cop deputy, Luo Xiaoting, Wang Xiaojiao (but her stupid husband might do worse things in the future). One of either Prosecutor Guo or Wang He Yu (or other people in their department) would probably be bribed by the bad guy, the other is good.
Xiao Muen is only a guest role, so he's probably good and will die soon or something.
The friends are irresponsible with their money. They have money issues, he has a gambling addiction yet he goes…
He loves his wife. It's just to illustrate that he gambles because he want to get rich quick and give a better life for his family. Actually this is pretty common trope in these so called "CCP dramas," often the "bad guys" treat their family very well they are just doing illegal things to make money in order to give their family a better life. These characters are insecure about their financial situation and feels bad for not being able to give a better life for their loved ones. Gambling for money to make wifey happy is weird though, but other vices like taking bribes to make wifey happy is actually very common (as illustrated in The Knockout).
Was thinking the same; is she the only investigative prosecutor in her whole division? She’s got like 7 assignments…
Well, she's the main character. Irl it's more like a team than solo work but if we have like 10 prosecutor character in the drama the viewers would have no idea who's who anymore. It's the same like heroism in historical dramas where main character general can solo a bunch of mobs for dramatic effect rather than how real war being fought by soldiers mostly instead of the general,
