Kind of a waste of resources imo, it's not like youth will find them interesting. This drama for example is much more interesting and relatable for younger people today, with topics like out of control internet company, internet/videogame/gambling addiction, etc and how the govt tries to keep the internet clean and police these megacorporations.

China is a shithole in those pre-Deng Xiaoping years. Life is terrible compared to life in US in those times. China only start improving due to Deng Xiaoping's reform and only be considered a great country in Xi Jinping era. Nothing special with CCP, Mao brought the country into starvation, no idea why people are studying his quotes still. Today China is great because they got lucky that Xi came into power, consolidate his position, enforce party discipline, and make China great again.

I agree those 1970 or so dramas are not depicting reality and for that reason I don't like them either. CCP should focus on making propaganda dramas set in Xi Jinping's era (2013 and above) to illustrate the actual progress and achievements. Before that it's mostly too much poverty and terrible infrastructure to even be called a world power really.
It’s “Shifu” so I think technically teacher but could be master as I’ve seen that being used in costume…
It's just mentor relationship basically. There's no direct equivalent in English because you don't really call your senior with anything special in English.
Usually people don't' watch propaganda, but then they put your favorite actress on the face of it. The CCP definitely…
CCP don't tell actors to cast in their dramas, it's the actors themselves who wanted to star in these. You don't understand because you think Chinese citizens hate the government since all you're hearing are those loud minority of Chinese detractors, but this is definitely not the case at all. Most upper class people (which these actors belong to) in China likes the government to some extent (or at least don't mind them), unless they got into trouble with the government like breaking law, then they escape to the west and talk shit about CCP. Also, most Chinese citizens know members of CCP (it's the largest party by membership on earth), you won't hate a party that has your family member and/or friends in it. Dilraba's first drama is one of those "propaganda" dramas, her family is a CCP loyalist. She's also one of the first who immediately cut ties with all those boycott Xinjiang cotton brands.
CCP is doing a very good job at running the country compared to most democratic government, look at how bad China were like 20 years ago and compare the progress with now, no other country beats China in terms of poverty alleviation and economic growth. The government can run very efficiently when they don't need to worry about party politics and focus on other things other than trying to get the most votes during election by promising lies. Corruption in China before Xi Jinping era was very endemic, and even though it is still a relatively corrupt country now there has been a huge improvement since his anti-corruption drive. Therefore there is absolutely nothing wrong for CCP to try to paint themselves in a good light.
People who don't like CCP won't watch any of these drama anyway, so it really doesn't matter. These things are meant for domestic consumption, it is only in recent years these kind of things get translated.
... I watched all 4 released episodes and so far they haven't talked about suppression of privacy. You can argue…
If there is privacy in the west, nordvpn, expressvpn, etc wouldn't be able to make so much money from consumers living in the west! Let's not pretend like China is the only country that spies on their citizens.
From reading all these comments, I have a hard time understanding this constant debate about CCP propaganda and…
You don't understand... those people just see China flag, CCP badge, or CCP uniform and goes boom "reeeeeeeee China BAD EVIL." I can guarantee you 99% of them don't even watch the first episode, they just see the poster and go cry on the comment section!
Actors and actresses are free to not try to audition for these propaganda dramas. In fact there are a lot of actors…
It's actually funny when people call these things propaganda, I mean it's not like people who hate CCP are going to watch it and get brainwashed into liking CCP. Clearly all these people who cry about these are not even here to watch, they just see the poster that show Chinese government official and they got triggered after being conditioned and brainwashed from years of reading western media smearing China propaganda.
I was surprised that Prosecution Elite suddenly air-dropped out of nowhere. Scroll down into comment sections....People…
Actors and actresses are free to not try to audition for these propaganda dramas. In fact there are a lot of actors who have never starred in one and only play in those romance web dramas. The government does not need to draft actors to play in propaganda dramas, there's a bunch of Chinese actors queueing to star in one of these because CCP is good in their eyes. Just put yourself in the shoes of these actors, they are millionaires living in China's elite residential areas which is like one of the best on the planet, and security is very safe and the city is very advanced, very developed and life there is far more convenient than in the west thanks to cheaper labor. They all use vpn and not affected by the great firewall anyway. So why would they not like the government? ? How would life outside China can be better for them?
Some clueless people act like the likes of Dilraba are forced by CCP to do certain things but the reality is that her and her families are CCP loyalists who have benefited hugely from CCP ever since her first drama which was actually also a propaganda drama> Back then to star in those your whole family have to be vetted as loyal CCP cadres, they do full background checks, so not every random uyghurs could be featured in that drama.
Many young actors are aspiring to graduate from merely starring in idol dramas and move on to realistic dramas approved by the party and be considered as a real actor. Just ask how Wang Yibo feels after finally being able to get main role in a serious CCP approved drama "Being a Hero." Many international chinese stars like Jackie Chan, Donnie Yen, etc are hardcore CCP loyalists too. If CCP is bad, people would be fleeing the country enmasse ala Venezuela or Myanmar, and borders need be closed ala North Korea or East Germany in order to stop fleeing people, but no, actually China is a prosperous growing country where citizens can easily leave the country if needed. But guess what, it's Taiwanese youth moving to China to get a job there and not the other way around.
Don't watch if you don't like it. Idk why people are always crying in cdrama comment section about Chinese propaganda, there's a ton of dramas made outside China yet you lot always come here.
I don’t know if I can get past that. Should I watch? Were the characters killed loved ones or very important…
I only watched the earlier episodes but episode 1 already started with kidnapping and attempted murder on FL basically. And multiple groups are after her. The villains are VERY evil and scheming, it's pretty grating even from the beginning.
> Zero passion, zero goals in life besides the male lead. Literally he was the only thing she cared aboutThis…
At least in modern era there's more variety and different type of people are accepted.
Like there are pairs like successful rich career women with house husband too. And these women can go to host clubs or keep male pets if they want. All sorts of independent women have their space to thrive as well today and get jobs that used to be male exclusive.
The thing is it can be difficult when both spouses are dominant, as this often leads to arguments. This is why there is a lot of couple where either the husband controls the wife or the wife controls the husband. It's not necessarily a bad thing as long as love is mutual, as some people have submissive nature anyway. There is a lot of unambitious young men nowadays lacking in direction who need their girlfriend to guide and give them motivation.

As for Summer Again I have not watched that. Maybe you watch it first and tell me if it's good or not ;)
