I've seen a lot of comments about not connecting with the storyline or feeling an emotional separation from the…
Thanks for your observations. Could you please point us to the timestamp for Charan telling Khanin his father may be alive ? I don't remember Charan saying that, and i'm pretty sure Khanin's attitude towards the King would have shifted if he had learnt that his father's death was unconfirmed.
I totally agree. There is so much angst and pain that should be happening there, that's just not explored at all.…
Yes, that reaction was so strange to me π To the point that I actually wondered if the actor had an acting problem. And Khanin's father's reaction to the King, when the King told him Khanin was alive ?
Khanin's father lived - and grieved - for YEARS thinking his son was dead. And then he learns that his son was alive all along, that the King hid this information from him, and he does not show even an once of anger or betrayal at the King. Not at the time he's told the truth, nor later when he's by himself.
I don't know, such reaction is just really hard to understand for me π
I can only imagine that the king told him, that his adoptive dad will be buried in England (maybe sell it off…
Thanks for sharing your perspective on all those things, I loved reading it!
That's actually a pretty plausible explanation (though I don't know what would justify Thatdanai wanting to be burried in England despite being an Emmalian through and through) and it's a shame we didn't get a scene like this, because it was easy and it would have addressed many issues. It would have also strengthened Khanin's character and motivations, instead of leaving the audience (by which i mean me LOL) doing mental gymnastics to try and explain away the inconsistencies.
I do get where you're coming from with the "bratty attitude". I had to redo the whole hot stranger comes to my house to take me away from my life and everything i love > I hate hot stranger > i am attacked in my house and hot stranger actually protects me. My father remains there, life status unknown > hot stranger prevents me from going back and i strongly dislike it, but i do trust now he has my safety at heart > i get attacked again and hot stranger risks his life to protect mine > i leave all my distrust behind, starts to rely on him, see him as an ally, and even to feel grateful > i arrive in Emmaly and am thrust into a Prince life i know NOTHING of, and hot ally tells me his duty is done.. on the day i learnt my father died. I get the ANGER.
I could still do without the whole "entitled" dimension ("you should obey to me because i'm asking you to") and just go with just the cold-angry version (yours) or the vulnerable version ("you're the only person i know here, please don't leave me alone") but yeah, i do understand his attitude more. Even if I don't necessarily like the way it comes through.
I do understand Khanin's feelings for Charan. He was attracted from the start, and Charan turned out to be an ally, which may have been the green light Khanin needed to let his attraction blossom. Plus this whole "you're the only one i can depend on" context fosters intense emotions. But I'm not quite sure about Charan π The kiss he shared with Khanin might have shaken him, given the beliefs attached to it. It may have fostered the ground for seeing Khanin in a romantic light. As for the intensity of his feelings, i'll need someone's light on this because i'm as clueless as you π
Pretty early after Charan was forced to tell Khanin that his father was dead he started investigating what happened…
As far as Khanin is concerned, Charan is investigating the identity of the men who attacked them. There is nothing there to doubt the death of his father for.
If anything, Charan's silence on Thatdanai's death would on the contrary cement the idea that his dad IS dead, because Khanin trusts Charan, and probably trusts that Charan would not lie to him (even simply by omission) when it comes to something as important as this.
So I don't understand why Khanin is not more preoccupied with the fate of his father('s body). Knowing how and why his dad died would definitely help with closure, but saying his final goodbyes and ensuring his dad rests in peace seems just as necessary and significant in getting closure.
I'd say even more, personally.
And regarding my other point, I don't get WHY he's not more curious about his biological family.
I'm not talking about building a brand new relationship with his biological dad here. I'm talking about getting basic information about his actual past and parents. I would want to know more about, ESPECIALLY if I learnt that both my adoptive dad AND my biological mom were murdered. I would definitely ask questions.
To me these are "blind spots" in the characterization and they prevent me from connecting with the character as much as i would like to. Which is a shame because, as previoulsy said, Khanin is the main character.
I would love to like Khanin, but I really have trouble understanding him or relating to him. Which is a shame, because he's the main character.
I get why he decided to compete for the Crown. I actually really loved that moment of realization that he needed power to get answers about his father's death, and it was a nice callback that Charan was actually the one to have told him that.
But I don't get any of the other family-related actions, attitudes, or lack thereof. I don't get why he didn't care about his dad's dead body, if it was well taken care of, or why he never inquired about his funeral, or wanted to attend. Unless I'm mistaken, he doesn't know (and has no way of knowing) that his dad is, in fact, not dead. I don't get why we don't see him grieving more, even as he takes a fencing competition and rehearses fencing moves which must undoubtedly remind him of his dad's training. I don't understand why he didn't inquire more about his biological mother, or about why he had to be exiled out of Emmaly for protection rather than protected within the palace's walls. I don't understand why he doesn't talk to his biological father more.
And it doesn't help that i also don't like his attitude towards Charan, which i find bratty and childish, but that's actually a personal thing, and not a problem on the series part. Charan seems to love it, so all is well π
Khanin is so stubborn ππ And that painting had me on the floor π€£π€£π€£Wish we saw what Chakri painted…
Me tooooo, I was trying to guess what would be on his canvas ! I imagined it being a list of all the things he needs to do once he's back in the palace βπ β
It makes me laugh how they agree so quickly to change their "long-standing" traditions. First, women had not been allowed to compete, and Ava is suddenly allowed to, with no discussion except for the fact that she asked for it and Khanin supported her. And now the fencing competition has suddenly been upgraded to a ingenuity and archery competition, without even discussing the type of activity that would be relevant to test for whatever qualities a father needs to have towards his son to be a good king. Don't get me wrong, i'm happy these things are changing. But the way the show goes about it just contradicts the idea that traditions are that significant for Emmaly's identity.
genuine question here, is this actually good, or is it mostly for the fans of the ship (no shade if it is!)? I…
I'm not part of the fandom and it all depends on what you're looking for in a series. This series has got a refreshing storyline (compared to other thai BLs), the visuals are remarkable and the production budget very high. It's definitely entertaining. But the script, characters and characters' relationship are not that well written in my opinion. The editing is lacking and the pacing is uneven.
I suggest you try it and see if it's actually to your taste because that's what will really matter in the end ;)
Khanin has a huge crush and he's trying to do anything he can to keep Charan around. Charan is older and way more…
It's not because you love someone that you're gonna want to do everything they want you to do. Charan's feelings and his capacity to say no in this relationship are two separate matters.
It seems to me that Charan being Khanin's protection detail was ordered by the King, and that the initial request came from Khanin. Charan had no say in the matter, just like he had no say when the King ordered him to go back to teaching.
My actual question is : Can Charan refuse a direct order by Khanin ?
