I think with Sailom, it is a case of a good man (boy) being pushed one step too far. He already knew what Kang…
That's a pretty interesting explanation, thanks for sharing it! I could see it happening this way, because Sailom clearly has strong personality and affection for his friends (in addition to being very smart) and that could prove the trigger to him disregarding the risks for himself. Still seems to me like a high bargain, but let's wait to see what the rest of the episodes will tell us ;)
Sailom is not an dumb kid he calculate everything befor, if you focus on storyline you will know that Kanghan…
To me it all comes down to how much power Kanghan really has in the school as the son of its main sponsor. If his father's money is indeed the source of the students' scholarship, then Sailom's scholarship can indeed be cancelled, and we know how much of Sailom's life depends on this scholarship. It doesn't matter that Kanghan is not your full-time bully and does not target someone unless provoked; here he is provoked, and Sailom has no way to know whether Kanghan is mean enough or no to come after his scholarship.
And while I'm aware that Sailom is not going all out confrontational either (he avoids some fights and does not respond to some of Kanghan's provocations), he still acts like he has nothing to fear and that confuses me. Because he DOES have something to fear, that's literally his character set-up. Maybe it's just a delivery problem.
Loved the cinematography, color grading and music choices of this first ep. The directing is assured and the show knows how to tell a story. But I'm already getting confused with the dynamics of the main couple LOL. They're writing it like Sailom being smart can actually be a counter-power to Kanghan being rich but can it? Kanghan is shown to be all powerful in school, students and teachers all being under his thumb. It's been said that a student can lose their scholarship if they mess with him. Can't he get Sailom's scholarship cancelled, despite Sailom being a good student? If yes, then how can Sailom dare to be so confrontational with him? If not, then doesn't that negate the message they've been conveying throughout the whole episode that people aren't equal and rich people/student are at the top of the food chain?
Anyone gets why Shi Ying mercilessly burnt the handkerchief embroidered by Zhu Yan in the middle of ep 7? I get the burning part perfectly - he needs to erase any traces of their connexion, lest it falls in wrong hands (read: the High Priest) - but why without a hint of regret or emotion over the fact that she literally thought enough about him to embroider his face on a handkerchief? I know he acts like he hates her to her face to make her give upon him, but we've also been shown that he's actually moved by her loyalty to him, and that he cares about her. So why is he now acting like he hates her in private too? Did I miss some character development somewhere?
On ep 1 of the longest promise : Lady Qiushui kills herself and her unborn son to frame the Crown prince: "Well, that escalated pretty quickly" The Empress threatens to kill the Emperor to protect the Crown prince: "Well, that esc-" The Empress sets herself and the Crown prince on fire: "..."
I binge-watched this series yesterday and loved it. It's honestly a great piece of work. I loved how nuanced the writing of the characters was ; the show presented us characters that are flawed and pretty unconventional but they took care to contextualize those flaws/character traits (we know right from the start for example that Hira has never felt real interest or attraction for anything as he grew up, that he saw doctors because of that) and they actually tackled those issues in the last episodes, regarding Hira at least. I was fully expecting them not to do it, as I have seen SO MANY shows romanticizing "problematic" relationships without ever shedding light on their problematic aspect, so I was overjoyed when they did. This show has a lot of depth, much more than one would expect, and was both moving and beautiful.
I'm on ep 4 and I'm actually not liking the drama that much. I don't really like either of the main leads personalities,…
Thanks for all the feedback on how things get better, I really appreciate it. I'm aware these two will make quite the dream team as they go, since its been clear from the start they have a lot of potential, separately and together.
But the journey to get there matters, and the FL forcing the ML to grow into his potential, even in less abusive ways, is not something I'll enjoy watching. It's also purely a question of personal taste: I do not especially like the characters' personalities or their dynamic together. I can stick with very flawed characters if they give me enough to love about them individually or together. It's not just the case here.
Still I'm thankful for all the kind responses. Hope the people loving this drama will enjoy their watch to the fullest and the ones walking away will find their own gem soon ;)
I'm on ep 4 and I'm actually not liking the drama that much. I don't really like either of the main leads personalities, which is quite a strange experience because they're not badly written (and Bai Jing Ting's acting is delighting to watch), and I don't really like the development of their relationship. The FL forcing the ML to study by depriving him of food among other things was quite a turn off for me. I'll probably drop it here.
