Title Lesson in Love Spoiler
Is there anything-fucking-worse than ‘we might be siblings’ trope. Ugh.
I think it was more shown as a way of how desperate the mother was to break them up that she wanted to play that dirty. Which is why even her husband got fed up. She tried to play mind games with the female lead and that’s what the drama tried to show. For example one scene where she says I was wrong you are exactly like your mom. Until the last few minutes she did not even apologise to her. So to me it was less of a trope and more of a “mind games played by a woman who is up against the wall.”

ikr .. imagine it would be the other way around.. FL being 12years older.. the sh*tstorm
Most of them have the Leonardo Di Caprio complex. “I will be older, fatter and maybe not so good looking myself as a man, but I wanted to act with and date with actresses younger than 25 if I am a famous actor. I am entitled to do so. Does not matter if I myself am pushing 40.”

Dude Koreans don’t. It’s the international viewers who do. Especially those from more conservative countries. Because Koreans are ok with this paring and this drama is doing very well there.

Wow! We're on episode 12 and we still have people coming on here to disparage the lead actress' age (She doesn't…
Even when she is young and attractive it’s not the end. Have you see the mental health issues very beautiful young girls have. People constantly staring and them trying to keep up looking prettier everyday while being aware that everyone ages, it drives so many women mentally ill. Why can’t we just not focus on how women even young women look. I in fact personally know women who have attempted sui@#$& because they just can’t handle it anymore all this pressure and creepy men etc.

ur acting like she's not a responsible mature adult. If she doesn't mind, move on. It's not for you to decide…
I totally agree. Crash course in romance was like a lesson in misogyny. I know that Chinese have this saying that women are stale cake beyond 25, you know what Indians say. They say “ mard to satha mein bhi patha hai” meaning a “man is super attractive even when he is sixty”. All Bollywood heroes are 55 plus and none of the heroines are past 30. This trend will keep continuing globally if we don’t talk about it

I really hope there will be a good ending for FL. I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the story unfolds.
I hope so too, but feel like it’s a futile hope. Let’s wait …

Same here. It was creepy in Goblin. Super creepy (I am ok with age gaps) but here it was wrong because he was…
I think it was the author of this drama who introduced the female lead as a child and he as her guardian. So it’s a very parent child relationship. In Jane Eyre movie, the leads do have a large gap in real life too. However, Jane meets Mr Rochester after she is a young lady of 18 and completely taking care of herself. So it was not weird.
If you do get a chance to watch the movie do so. She is a phenomenal actress and I loved her in Alice, Crimson Peak and this movie.

Same here. It was creepy in Goblin. Super creepy (I am ok with age gaps) but here it was wrong because he was her guardian (she was his ward so a defacto parental relationship). It gave me the same skeeved out vibes when I read the news that woody Allen married his ward.
I don’t mind age gaps if the relationship is fine. For example I adore Emma by Jane Austen (girl 21 and hero 38) and Jane Eyre (girl 19 and hero Mr Rochester is 40), and these are two of my all time favourite novels. On a completely tangential note have you watched Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska it’s an amazing movie.
This drama felt off.

I agree to your points 👍. I am Indian and like Koreans we have three different pronouns of addressing people based on ages plus 2 different genders. So that’s essentially six ways to addressing people.
However in Hindi couples always address each other with the neutral you. socially there is no age hierarchy between husband and wife or lovers whatever be the age difference. Plus calling your spouse brother or sister (oppa, noona) is a huge taboo. According to Indian customs marrying anyone sharing lineage up to seven generations imagine is considered incest. So very strict laws about verbiage of brother or sister and also social practice
Which is why it makes it so difficult to watch. If I was just English speaking I would not have this baggage. But my perception gets coloured due to this language difference. But I understand it’s due to my own cultural nuance

I agree with you. And outside of I hear your voice, I don’t like Korean noona romances. The heroes are too whiney and pitiful and the noonas are too rude sometimes. It’s a weird dynamic … 🤷‍♀️. But it goes both ways I also don’t like Korean dramas when men are much older and the heroine keep saying oppa oppa as if she is taking the “dear lord’s name”. Korea is a hierarchal society and these things show. Chinese dramas make it super cute 🥰

This is seriously a pet peeve of mine… but I understand since Korea is a conservative country embracing a lot…
That’s disrespectful dude. Pakistani dramas have wonderful stories and great acting. Some regional Indian language shows despite being ultra conservative are good. Especially Marathi, Bengali and South Indian.

Typical Kdramas: they’ve never been in a relationship before, they’re still virgins. Turns out they’re expert…
This is seriously a pet peeve of mine… but I understand since Korea is a conservative country embracing a lot of Christian values. I do personally enjoy Pakistani dramas with zero skinship. I also enjoy Indian dramas with very conservative and patriarchal family values straight out of 1500s (so it is what it is)

You will be surprised since I had the same impression but I was pleasantly surprised. Something Haute is a YouTube channel and they recommend some really good dramas including some themed around mental health, gender identity etc. I understand Marathi and Assamese in addition to Bengali so find some regional works also good in terms of content. Only unfortunately Hindi wale programs bakwaas hain.

I must tell you if you like dramas with good story and acting you should watch Pakistani dramas. Woh aik pal has a story where the female lead is older. Another great one (nothing to do with age gaps) is Hum Kahan Se Achhe Te (childhood trauma and parental abuse). There is Dobara too with an older female lead, but the age gap was too much for me but I appreciate how forward thinking the drama was. The story in dobara was great since they examined the concepts of age appropriateness in terms of both religion and outside of religion.
Unfortunately MDL only lists East Asian dramas.
