I am looking forward to this. Interestingly enough...I can't get into Goblin. The age gap skeeves me so bad I…
Same here. It was creepy in Goblin. Super creepy (I am ok with age gaps) but here it was wrong because he was her guardian (she was his ward so a defacto parental relationship). It gave me the same skeeved out vibes when I read the news that woody Allen married his ward.
I don’t mind age gaps if the relationship is fine. For example I adore Emma by Jane Austen (girl 21 and hero 38) and Jane Eyre (girl 19 and hero Mr Rochester is 40), and these are two of my all time favourite novels. On a completely tangential note have you watched Jane Eyre with Mia Wasikowska it’s an amazing movie.
This drama felt off.

I liked this drama. Although like you even I wished why a student teacher romance. At least the male lead was 18 here. But still it’s wrong. But even then I kept watching it.
But the reason why I commented in because this is the way someone should write a review. You did not like it but still made the review super funny. I chuckled to myself when I read your review. You were also not disrespectful either. Loved this review even though I would rate the drama higher personally (I just wish this was college student and professor).

I agree! I finished Falling Into You a while ago, and I'm still not over it. The Rational Life is also one of…
I agree to your points 👍. I am Indian and like Koreans we have three different pronouns of addressing people based on ages plus 2 different genders. So that’s essentially six ways to addressing people.
However in Hindi couples always address each other with the neutral you. socially there is no age hierarchy between husband and wife or lovers whatever be the age difference. Plus calling your spouse brother or sister (oppa, noona) is a huge taboo. According to Indian customs marrying anyone sharing lineage up to seven generations imagine is considered incest. So very strict laws about verbiage of brother or sister and also social practice
Which is why it makes it so difficult to watch. If I was just English speaking I would not have this baggage. But my perception gets coloured due to this language difference. But I understand it’s due to my own cultural nuance

I agree with you. And outside of I hear your voice, I don’t like Korean noona romances. The heroes are too whiney and pitiful and the noonas are too rude sometimes. It’s a weird dynamic … 🤷‍♀️. But it goes both ways I also don’t like Korean dramas when men are much older and the heroine keep saying oppa oppa as if she is taking the “dear lord’s name”. Korea is a hierarchal society and these things show. Chinese dramas make it super cute 🥰

This is seriously a pet peeve of mine… but I understand since Korea is a conservative country embracing a lot…
That’s disrespectful dude. Pakistani dramas have wonderful stories and great acting. Some regional Indian language shows despite being ultra conservative are good. Especially Marathi, Bengali and South Indian.

Typical Kdramas: they’ve never been in a relationship before, they’re still virgins. Turns out they’re expert…
This is seriously a pet peeve of mine… but I understand since Korea is a conservative country embracing a lot of Christian values. I do personally enjoy Pakistani dramas with zero skinship. I also enjoy Indian dramas with very conservative and patriarchal family values straight out of 1500s (so it is what it is)

You will be surprised since I had the same impression but I was pleasantly surprised. Something Haute is a YouTube channel and they recommend some really good dramas including some themed around mental health, gender identity etc. I understand Marathi and Assamese in addition to Bengali so find some regional works also good in terms of content. Only unfortunately Hindi wale programs bakwaas hain.

I must tell you if you like dramas with good story and acting you should watch Pakistani dramas. Woh aik pal has a story where the female lead is older. Another great one (nothing to do with age gaps) is Hum Kahan Se Achhe Te (childhood trauma and parental abuse). There is Dobara too with an older female lead, but the age gap was too much for me but I appreciate how forward thinking the drama was. The story in dobara was great since they examined the concepts of age appropriateness in terms of both religion and outside of religion.
Unfortunately MDL only lists East Asian dramas.

Yes it won’t see the light of the day. Lots of stuff which would be called racist now. I read it when I was only 13, stealing the book from my mom. But that book leaves an impact. More than 20 years later I still remember it.

Yeah you are right. I am ok if the female lead is up to 10 years older and vice versa if male lead is upto 15 years older. Any more is a challenge. My only exception to this rule was reading Gone With the Wind, where Rhett Butler was about 20 years older, but I still liked it.

Is there a happy ending. I remember reading in dramabeans (a Korean drama recap site) three years ago and thought it was not?

Actually it depends on your mindset how is your mood when you start as I wrote in my review that it's not for…
Cool… I will give this a try. You are right though one has to be in the right mood.

How is this one? Is it too contrived… I have been putting off this drama since it feels a bit weird to me.. don’t know why

This obsession with youth is sad. I especially despise the arrogance of young women who make derogatory comments…
Agree 💯

What does the gender card mean? I follow both Bollywood and k drama world. Not a soul I mean not a single soul…
I am also tired of Bollywood with zero acting, nepotism and regurgitating the same plots. I have not watched any movie in the past few years

It is an issue dude. But hopefully will become less issue in the near future. Even 5 years ago a lot more people would have complained about her age (30 percent) now it’s about 20 percent. So I do think this age gender issue is there but improving

My opinion about fl age criticism. Those who are supporting her are right. Those who are critical about it are also…
What does the gender card mean? I follow both Bollywood and k drama world. Not a soul I mean not a single soul complained that Shahrukh khan was too old at 57 (nearing sixty that is) to dance around trees with a heroine 20 years younger than him.
Here she is supposed to be a plain Jane and this drama has been doing exceptionally well in South Korea and even then all people want to comment on is her age. It most certainly is a gender issue

We all know quite quitting right? I think the entire Korean entertainment industry is quiet quitting from the throes of their toxic fandom. Marriages being announced left, right and centre.
People ignorin whatever fans are saying and just going for it. To me it means that there will come a day when juvenile girls/boys will stop targeting the entertainment artists for their choice to exercise personal freedom of relationship. Almost every week we get new announcements and it’s a good sign. Which means ergo, less news of celebs suicide (fingers crossed) 2021 was especially bad.
