For everyone hating on Netflix, clearly this ploy is working for them. Wall Street performance of Netflix has been the best since 2022. So unfortunately even if we hate this, we will see more of this type of drama splitting in the future. And no people are not going anywhere since The Economist and other newspapers have reported that Netflix is the choice for most millennials and Gen Z and conversely other platforms such as Disney are not doing well. All of this means that sadly Netflix will do as they please as long as they see the numbers 😔

Okay it's supposed to be fiction but how sick is Korean society that in a lot of these dramas, the teachers and…
Look a Hoffstede culture index, that would be more accurate. The power distance parameter is pretty high. And hence you see dramas where the weak are crushed as ants. I mean North Korea is after all Koreans ethnicity too. So of course being fierce and the hunger for power must be there. There are also documented evidence on how poorly they treat browner asians in their country. Anyone not pretty enough, thin enough, rich enough or white (pale skin) enough can get bullied.

I hope this is not a fluffy romance buts it gets dark. Kim Yoo Jung does not hesitate to step out of her comfort zone and in none of her roles she has been a silly princess girl. I so wish she is shown strong and sexy a bit like Veronica Park. Song Kang I hope also does a darker role since that suits him better. I hope this turns out good,

Yes and funny part is most of the comments are from women. Everyone is going to get older even most of the girls…
Interests become stronger as you get older especially for women since once children grow up and stop being so needy women get a new lease on life. Its actually young moms of young children who have no time or interest otherwise women of all ages do want someone they can share their life with.

Some of you all really a misogynist and it shows. In every drama where the fl is the older one the comment must…
Yes and funny part is most of the comments are from women. Everyone is going to get older even most of the girls who are in their twenties will be in their eighties some day (hopefully that is). This bias is illogical no, “I should not be biased against something which I will be someday”.

probably, or because they're too lazy to understand the plot. but i'm loving the drama so far! i would encourage…
Shorting was a big part of the Asian financial crisis also. If you remember 2521 the drama. Hedge fund guy George Soros was said to be responsible for massive short selling of Asian currencies tanking the economies overnight in late 90s.

The stories were heartfelt but felt a bit disjointed. So I dropped this drama. But did not give a rating. I realised “it’s me not you”. Technically it’s a well made drama with beautiful characters which I could not enjoy. But I can understand and appreciate why it’s rated high.

Has anyone read lord of flies, it was written in 1950s and kids can be very evil. In my school too, I used to see special kids getting bullied by mean girls and it used to be done so cunningly that the Teachers and the parents could not even realise this was happening. For these mean girls any girl if she was too dark, too fat or was spastic or too poor, or anything else would be bullied. It was relentless. So yes I am glad that these dramas are written which may urge governments and school authorities to take steps.

i know this is extremely cheesy of me to say but i hope dongeun gets to experience some happiness eventually.…
Same here. For me the happy ending would be if she were on a beach somewhere reading a book, smiling, wearing colourful clothes, eating cakes/pastries, and taking therapy to overcome decades worth of trauma and abuse. I don’t have want her to end with anyone. She is too bruised now to start a relationship with anyone.
Or maybe even shift places. In Korean dramas I have seen people shift to Jeju and I hope this one also ends that way where she is finally able to be away from everyone and everything which reminds her of her trauma. So likewise, it’s extremely cheesy of me too.

Wow wow wow maths,,, only Korean dramas can make a nerd like me happy. This also has a lot of happy bubblegum feels to this drama. The first episode as good. Let’s hope drama gods keep the momentum and this does not end in a dud. 🤞 Fingers crossed.

I really like the trailer, but why always murder mystery in every romcom kdrama in the past few years? When was…
I think it’s because Korean dramas cannot get too sexual etc due to cultural nuances. Which is why conflicts and either misunderstandings or a larger theme such as a murder, just to keep the plot moving. Also murder and romance is literally as old as Agatha Christie (her first book Mysterious affair at Styles written 1920 ) was both a murder and a romance 😊.

Most were SJK stans. In their heads she is the evil witch who did him dirty. But thankfully that ship has sailed…

Hmm, probably you're right! I only started watching Asian dramas continuously in the mid 2019, and never made…
True. I remember prior to Netflix taking over k dramas, I used to watch on VIU and wait for each episode. It was more fun.

Love the article. To me the standout dramas were the glory, business proposal, attorney woo, falling into you. My theory is that due to covid restrictions and shooting schedule disruptions 2022 was not a standout year for good dramas. Up until 2019 (pre covid) I used to have many more dramas on my favourite list.

On Romance Is a Bonus Book Jan 11, 2023
If you are a book love your will love this drama. For me the drama writers had a massive love affair with the book publishing industry and books. I am a person who reads at least three books a week. I am also someone who will not buy a book if the book jacket in one book in a series just not match rest of the books. I am also someone who plonks down her hard earned money on sprayed edges. So this drama this drama this drama, oh my god, oh my god, it’s one of my best dramas I have watched. Every scene every moving frame is an ode to the art of writing. The stories within the drama feel so wholesome. This drama is like “your most comfort food that you share with your loved ones”.
