I think J dramas are great . One of my favourite dramas in one where the male lead is paralysed. However. K dramas are wonderful too. The problem is k dramas attract a lot of international viewers from very patriarchal and misogynistic countries which means that when k dramas push the envelope on content, a lot of these fans go all toxic and raging. Case in point, you can check any rating of MDL website with older heroines etc. and you would see not only people posting sexually abusive comments about the heroine (only person called SHK a Mack) but they downvote the dramas too. Which is why we think that Korean dramas are usually one way. There is good diversity within Korean dramas too. But you will find them poorly rated in this MDL website. Conversely J Drams have a smaller international audience and hence less trolling and more authentic ratings

Of course. I totally agree. But what I wanted to share was that 2521 is not great and it’s not my cup of tea for the reasons I highlighted. At the same time I honour peoples choice 😊.

Thankfully that’s just some lame k drama audience who also have a problem with older heroines. But there have been so many dramas in Netflix which people like. Usually I go to flixpatrol and see what is trending the charts in the US Netflix and I am happy to note that of late it’s so much more diverse and rich and watch those. Also JTBC curates it’s shows well unlike TVN which is more commoditised

I don’t like shows like 2521 which is just young teen problems and unnecessary angst with a Disney feel. Just a way of showing cookie cutter heteronormative people with zero sex like ken and Barbie. Teen dramas I ever enjoy are like a Swedish one called quicksand which talked about problems with drugs and a school shootout. It was hard hitting and profound. I have watched that show over and over agin. The acting of the cast especially after the shootout happened is superb. I would rather watch teen shows like these than watch super beautiful young people dance circles around each other playing pretend life. Just my opinion though. Plus no diversity, no non beautiful people, no disabled people. That’s not how school works I remember my own school life and we had people from all walks of life.

The weirdest thing is that a lot of 2521 proponents came to this MDL webpage and gave terrible feedback about this drama trying to tank FLAW and this whole fracas has put me off 25/21

I think I see a sleeper hit effect with flaw. Lots of haters initially but now more and more people coming back with good comments.

In my experience age and maturity are two separate things 😊. And yes Si Woo character has been written well. I loved when he did share his discomfort with the FL and put his foot down. It kinds of balances the power equation since at work she is his boss. And personally I like when people assert and stand their ground. So I know people loved the bar scene but to me this earlier scene was more powerful and poignant

I do like noona romances but do not like younger pushover heroes such as park bo gum and his big smile in encounter. So it’s pleasant surprise to see the male lead being assertive but at the same time not aggressive. It’s a fine balance and I think the writer, director and Song Kang have nailed it

Exactly. I feel like MDL viewers will not even have the problem if the guy is a grandpa literally. But no they will not tolerate even if the girl is a year older. And these people then go and downvote the dramas. This is one of the most toxic websites I have ever seen in my life

This is exactly what I was talking about MDL being a toxic place. While male leads being even fifteen years older no one says anything. Such horrible double standards. This website attracts the most patriarchal and misogynistic people

I think that’s because the drama received a lot of hatred from a few people. Three reasons 1) people started posting negative comments before the show aired 2) some people say they hate women being older and keep reappearing often to say the same thing and are extremely rude to fellow commenters here 3) some people who watch every episode and come back to write extremely negative comments so that they ensure that negative comments are always present and upfront in this page. It’s not a simple dislike and it’s such a huge force of negativity unlike anything I have seen before. These guys are trying to tank this drama and I don’t know why. It’s not a logical reason where they don’t like the story, acting or direction. It’s simply that they seem to hate the drama for merely being 😀

Exactly there is new drama by Xu Kai and Yang Mi and that drama has only receive good vibes. Don’t know what this drama did. But usually Chinese dramas get less toxic viewers flung their way.

I think you should let this person be. MDL has a lot of viewers from very patriarchal societies and they will not accept this drama. How dare she be older !!! And if you respond to them they will respond non politely to you too

That drama has such good comments like even before the drama has started even. It feels like people have an axe to grind
