She’s only a year older than me, I can sympathize because our bodies definitely start falling apart at this…
I also suspect song Kang character to be not as bubbly as it looks and we may see some unraveling 🙂. And yes to female power leads.

Agree she looks good. I feel that the cinematographer made a stylistic choice to make her look tired. The camera makes her face more in shadow/ silhouette, whilst Song Kang is always pink/ bright light. I think the director wanted to highlight their specific differences. Similar to other developments in books/novels we will find her looking more bright and him more grim as the episodes move along. This reminds me of its ok it’s love where the director did a similar thing, Gong Hyo Jin kept looking brighter while Jo in Sung kept looking more and more haggard.

Can anyone explain to me the speech levels they use to address each other. I keep thinking it’s (formal speech) from him and (very informal) from her. South Asian languages have three speech levels. And couples usually refer to each other with the second (semi formal) level. So like to know more about the cultural context

So true lol.Man some people don't know how to just enjoy a rom com as a rom com. This isn't a mystery thriller…
Yeah but Korean dramas have a history of doing sudden tone change. It’s all happy till it’s suddenly not. It gets very jarring for people like me who get emotionally invested in characters. I feel like, the author is cheating us. It’s fine if the drama was meant to be sad in the first place. I really really hated what happened in Dol Dol Sol Sol. This is why I appreciate 39. The character death has been declared so we as viewers will not be thrown under the bus. We know what to expect

This probably might be the weakest character Park Min Young ever played. Ha Kyung's character is very poorly written.…
I will get bit technical here. I have actually worked for govt. organisations in ASEAN, Au and NZ. The thing is in government organisations one cannot say anything without data backing. For example if Vietnam import usd 1 billion salmon, you have to go a out how much gray market, how much local consumption and how much smuggle to China from Da Nang. Even one basic fact like this needs to be what we say “triangulated” and corroborated from listed sources that the government agency you work for uses. If government agencies want to ensure faster decision making they establish special cells or form public private partnerships. If I use a wrong data starting from the press to the ministers to the taxpayer, everyone will be after me. I have had colleagues being fired with 2 hour notice. Thankfully these guys seem tenured at least. She is a director and is the face of the organisation. Nothing she says or does can be based on her opinion without backing. I am amazed that the writer got this right to be honest.

Ikr I tried happiness it was bad I tried our beloved summer it was bad...
Exactly it’s like damned if you do and damned if you don’t. People prefer to see teenage girls with teenage problems and biased towards older women including young girls themselves, She is in depression with what has happened and just been promoted what is she to do. Similarly giving book ex Sarah J Maas gets a lot of hate for writing fluffy books with fairy characters and authors who write about grim stuff get hatred for doing so. Feb has been a month of many book launches and I am getting tired of the same hatred on booktube channels as well

I commented on this in this page I think before. But I am reiterating. It’s social media. Trollers pick a woman in creative profession to hate and then trash her work. In the book world it’s hanya yanagihara where people are making really mean comments without even noting prior trigger warnings. In one or two days her good reads ratings went down massively just beucase people decided to hate her suddenly out of the blue.

I think it’s best to go by IMDb ratings. Have a more varied subscription base. Anything about 7.5 is good and is based on personal subjectivity. At least that’s what I will do now

Beloved summer was really bad it was so weird since characters in their mid twenties were acting like they were 13.

All the dramas releasing now have a bite. I feel like twenty one twenty five will have loss, 39 already had a major bereavement. God knows what will happen to this one. If it becomes sad in the middle, I will leave this. I had a horrible experience with dol dol. especially with covid, one needs happy times, not more reminders of the fact that we are surrounded by doom and gloom.

I hope it’s not life threatening but then he would not have willingly started another relationship. But the last scene was weird. Really dramaland no more dol dol sol sol. At least something in the rain had a happy end. Also I am scared of red shoes. There is a south Asian legend of red fairy with red shoes usually means an evil witch. If there is a similar Korean context, this could mean his mother.

I'm at the beginning of ep4 and I'm writing this before continuing.. I just don't get it .. how come Ha kyung…
They are not saying they are in love. I think it’s a mistranslation. “Ishq”, “Pyaar” or “Pasand”. I think it’s “pasand” but this word has no English translation. They are saying that they are serious enough to date and discover each other. But given their complicated backstory and their present work conditions unfortunately their relationship is relegated to “creatures of the night” clandestine one. Hopefully they will make it more open and in day light when they feel safe. I am just hoping that this relationship does not blow up

While I am loving this drama, I keep getting strong something in the rain and dol dol sol sol vibes. I really hope it does not go there. The chemistry is awesome so I don’t want this to descend into a crying mess which a lot of k dramas do.

Guess the hate is for the change in Kdramas recently! Not many are used to see elaborate scenes and stories such…
I have seen some old classic k dramas and they have always been mature too. It’s just that the more popular ones and on public govt. Channels such as SBS are more Disney like. I feel that to view OTT content people who are sensitively inclined can refer to the ratings and avoid anything upwards of 16 and go for PG. similarly people do the same for books also. Where people now read trigger warnings. This has nothing to do with Korean dramas but if late lot of people have been abusing hanya yanagihara a very famous author for writing hard hitting books on book tube and good reads. Despite them being aware that the content was strong. They still read it and leave poor ratings on booktube and good reads. This is probably where I am coming from. Comment if something is technically not ok. But if you are sensitive to the content then avoid it but don’t berate it. These are professional people who are working hard at it. I guess I am a little sensitive about this topic not because of what people are writing here (mydramalist is respectful) but beucase of the toxic behaviours that I see authors and creative professionals face.

Park MinYoung never disappoints and even if she is typecasted, all her office dramas have completely different…
That’s what people fail to realise. Drama chemistry is like a tennis match, you can have an ace player at one end but the volleys have to be served well by the other player too. Song Kang is aalso doing a great job their chemistry is awesome. I m also loving is how PG rated and grandpa like his interactions with his ex gf is in the flashbacks but it’s on fire with PMY.
