I think understanding the concept of painted skin which influenced this story really helps to understand why the characters are so complicated to the point they seem to be changing motives every few episodes. The point of the story is to continuously peel layers off the characters to reveal their actual faces.

The synopsis is misleading, but it just takes us where the story starts cuz honestly, there's no way to write an actual synopsis without giving like a hundred spoilers. So as viewers, we are kind of left blind, navigating the story with bits of information that they throw at us. It's complicated and confusing, yes but I also felt it was immensely rewarding when we finally understood what's happening. So, it just boils down to whether you can keep up with the story or if you simply vibe with this drama or not.

The comedic timing of this drama is impeccable. Nothing feels forced or unnatural and the scenes comes off as genuinely funny.

Junyoung is one of the few actors who I just love to see act. His expressions, voice acting, body language everything just makes his acting so enjoyable irrespective of the scene.

Finally finished watching and I enjoyed this drama way more than I initially expected. The ending could have been explained a little better but my expectations for cdrama endings are usually not very high and the post credit scene kind of made it up to me 😭. I'll miss the trio, especially Zhan Zhao and Bai Yutang, I loved all their interactions so much.

Overall, it's somewhere between 9 and 9.5 for me but since I rate dramas on the upper bound, a 9.5/10 it is. I had the review written for a few days now but was holding on to it till I actually finished watching so I finally got to post it now.
