"And thank God there was no unnecessary noble idiocy or endless misunderstanding between them." That's…
I don't think it's too much of a melodrama, although there is a love square. Most of the characters aren't really there to cause problems, though. It's more the office politics getting tangled up with the relationships that causes the scandal. Definitely not a tearjerker! I just felt bad for the ML during his pursuit era

Review Dream to You
"I genuinely do not understand why K-dramas are still so obsessed with forced separations."Why is it necessary,…
Exactly! Forced separation is one of my biggest frustrations too, especially when the couple has already gone through so much just to be together. Sometimes I’d much rather watch them actually navigate life as a couple instead of getting another round of unnecessary angst.

And yes, the character point is so true! When a character suddenly behaves completely unlike themselves just because the plot needs it, it’s incredibly noticeable. Character development is great, but it needs to feel earned rather than just being a convenient way to create more drama.

Hou Ming Hao really does a great job! Tian Jia Rui is also such a good actor. MJTY was actually his debut role, and I immediately fell in love with his screen presence from his very first appearance. You could tell right away that he could really act, but if you want to see more of his range, you should definitely check out *Veils of Shadow*. He did an amazing job there too.

FOF is definitely a visual feast, and the outros are honestly so much fun! I’ve even found myself looking up their outro dance clips once in a while. I’m really glad you enjoyed it!

Title: Hidden Beauty in the Capital | 娇藏京枝
ML: Chen Si | 沉思
FL: Lin Qiunai | 林秋奈

Synopsis
Sang Nian had secretly been in love with the proud, elite star Zhou Yuli for ten years. From high school to university, she could only watch him from the shadows. When her parents forced her to go on a blind date, she never imagined that the man sitting across from her would be Zhou Yuli himself—the very person she thought she would never cross paths with. He proposed a flash marriage, and despite the external rumors labeling her a "stand-in" and a "social climber," she married him without hesitation.

During three years of a polite and respectful marriage, she strove to play the role of a proper wife while keeping her deep affection hidden in her heart—until his "first love/white moonlight" got divorced, returned to the country, and tried to win him back. Facing the provocation of the ex-lover and the skepticism of the outside world, Zhou Yuli defended his wife in public for the first time: "My wife is Sang Nian. That will never change."

Just as Sang Nian assumed this was nothing more than a husband fulfilling his duty, she unexpectedly discovered that the man she had secretly loved throughout her entire youth was falling wildly and passionately in love with her.

I'm glad you liked it! The ending was definitely setting things up for a second season, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon, especially with the same cast. Cheng Lei is doing really well in leading roles now, and Tian Jia Rui has also started taking on male lead roles.

If it ever does happen, though, it'll easily be one of the most anticipated sequels.

You should also check out Edward Gao's other works. They have a similar vibe and that same calm, slow-paced storytelling style.

Yeah, it's definitely a step up compared to her usual roles. I really enjoyed seeing a more mature side of her…
Definitely a must-watch! It has an amazing cast, and it doesn't feel like your typical costume drama. The darker aesthetic and atmosphere are a big part of what makes it stand out for me.

I really want to say more, but I'm trying so hard not to spoil anything! If you're curious, you can check out my review. I wrote it with as few spoilers as possible. I'd love to hear your thoughts whenever you watch it!

It's good to hear Esther Yu got to act in a more mature role. I like her, and I think she's capable of far more…
Yeah, it's definitely a step up compared to her usual roles. I really enjoyed seeing a more mature side of her acting. That said, My Journey to You is still my favorite performance of hers. It was the complete opposite of her usual overly cutesy characters. She played a spy, and a very capable one at that. I thought she did an amazing job and really showed how much range she has when she's given the right role.

It's a darker drama, and I can see where the first episode is a bit off-putting with the modern introduction and…
That's actually one of the things that makes me want to give it another chance. I can appreciate a drama that trusts its audience instead of explaining everything upfront. I think I just wasn't in the right mindset the first time. Maybe once I'm in the mood for something darker, I'll enjoy slowly putting all the pieces together. And yes, the cast is definitely another reason I don't want to give up on it just yet!

You gave it a 9, so I'm definitely interested! I actually started it once, but after about half to three-quarters of the first episode, I dropped it because I just wasn't in the mood for another reincarnation or time travel drama.

After finishing POJ, I decided to give it another shot. I made it through three episodes this time before putting it on hold again. I'll definitely give it one or two more fair chances I just don't know when that'll be.

ACK, I didn't watch it during my Disney intro period, and and your review makes me want to now that my subscription…
Haha, that's always how it happens! The moment the subscription ends, suddenly all the good dramas start calling your name. Hopefully Disney brings back another intro offer soon so you can binge everything you've missed. I definitely think this one is worth adding to your catch-up list!
