I completely agree with you! After going through all the comments and reviews, I kept wondering why so many people weren't loving it.
My conclusion is that a lot of viewers just couldn't connect with the second half. Apparently, without a grand antagonist, lots of romantic intimacy, or constant dramatic twists, they lost interest.
For me, though, this felt like one of the most realistic historical political dramas I've watched, and that's exactly why I loved it.

The best part of that drama was Gongjin. I thought how magical it would be to visit, but, alas, it's fictional…
I felt the same! 🥹 Gongjin honestly felt like a real place, and the villagers made it so special.And I completely agree with you. The first half was almost perfect, but the second half leaned a bit too much into melodrama and unnecessary coincidences. It was still a lovely watch though.

love that besides all the misunderstandings that they frequently have (like most CDramas) she never pushed him away, she never try to leave or mentioned the word divorce, she still managed to keep a healthy marital relationship with him regardless of her doubts and insecurities. That is really refreshing and different than most dramas in the same situation The actors are grest. But the plot is so stupid. Gossip, her weak self-estimation are driiving her to doubt her marriage.

The plot actually prioritized the development of their relationship, and all annoying villains were disposed of without dragging it out. The ml and fl's faith in each other is beautiful and I love that they gave closure to her relationship with her bio family as well.
I really enjoyed this mini drama. The FL was such a refreshing character from the start and didn’t feel like the typical cliché lead. The actress did an amazing job with the role — at times she honestly reminded me of Gong Hyo-jin with her natural charm and expressions.
The ML was also perfect as the cold prince. Most dramas rely on dramatic music, lighting, and costumes to sell that type of character, but this actor didn’t need any of that. The looks, the mannerisms, the eyes — everything was already there naturally. Like the FL said, “it’s all in the eyes,” and she was right.
I also liked that the romance didn’t happen instantly, but it wasn’t dragged out either. They actually took time getting to know each other, which felt really refreshing for a mini series.
