When did Minglan grow up loved, fed, and cared for? Outside of her grandmother, Minglan literally had no one. And her grandmother took her after the absolute worst thing that could happened to her had already happened. Based on your comment, you’ve clearly never watched The Story of Minglan. That girl literally watched the people in her household kill her mother, and her father did nothing. She almost froze to death because the maids gave her household wet coal.

These two girls are cut from the same cloth. Shaoshang grew up in the countryside with only her maid. Minglan was an outcast within her own family because her mother wasn’t favored. Both of these girls were ABUSED in almost the same way. Therefore, my comparison is very fitting.

Shaoshang is only smart in theory. At best, she’s tactical. She’s able to resolve immediate problems; however, she overlooks the long-term consequences and how to combat outcomes. It’s others like her family, Ling Buyi, or the Emperor and Empress who shelter her from the fallout. I guess they’re plot armors in this case…..

Minglan, on the other hand, is the full package when it comes to wit. She’s strategic. She rarely acts impulsively. She studies people, waits for the right opportunity, anticipates multiple outcomes, and removes problems at their root so they don’t return.

Both girls were around the same age, with Minglan having to bite her tongue in the face of injustice from a very young age. Minglan had a head start in a sense because she witnessed what happened to her mother firsthand, so she understood from an early age the consequences of acting recklessly.

You’ve completely missed the point. In fact, you’ve decided to ignore everything I said and why I said it because you’ve already decided what you think. You’re saying her actions are based on survival, when everything she’s done in regard to her revenge goes completely against that and literally only makes her a bigger target. She doesn’t commit these acts for survival, and even if she did, her execution is wrong. Her mother told her that on several occasions. After rewatching the show several times, I’ve noticed the nuance and discrepancies in her actions as well.

Shaoshang expected to be coddled and pampered by her mother because she had a hard life growing up. I don’t know if this was fortunate or unfortunate, but upon their first meeting, her mother was literally able to see through Shaoshang’s schemes and knew she would get herself and the family in trouble sooner rather than later. Hence the course of action she took.

Yes, she wasn’t a soft person to begin with, but she knew how to show love to the young women in the family. We can praise Shaoshang for being scheming and exacting revenge, but all her mother saw was a troubled child who didn’t know when to act, a child who would get herself killed because she didn’t understand the right time or place. Even when she’s told why she shouldn’t do certain things she’s stuck in her ways. I mentioned this before, had she not have the backing that she has. She would’ve long been killed for being stupid.

One thing I’ll always do is look at the information provided by both sides and find the discrepancies, lies, and truth. I’ll never come on the internet to be partial or pick a side. Kim enlisted in the military in 2017 and presumably met Saeron for the first time in 2015. However, we do know that Gold Medalist released a statement saying they would cover the costs related to her advertisement cancellations and other damages following her DUI. We also know the circumstances surrounding why she ended up leaving that company. He conveniently stopped dating her right after her scandal broke.... She was basically kicked out of the company after that since she was cancelled and wasn’t bringing in work.

I can tell you right now that insiders like Dispatch know. They don’t have the victims’ best interests at heart, which is why they’re not furthering their report on the matter. It wouldn't be their first time. They did the same thing with lee sun-kyun too. INSIDERS KNOW! Anybody who views this situation objectively can see how weird it is for a 32-year-old man to be dating a barely 20-year-old girl. He literally watched that baby grow. If you see the contrast between them in that MCore picture, the difference in age is nauseating. It's obvious she was a child and he was an adult, and he knew and saw her in her child form in person. He was the one who sent her the picture via KakaoTalk. No one knows for certain if they kept in contact. There is a lot of room for doubt as to whether he groomed her or not. Maybe the family did, in fact, lie and falsify evidence that he dated her when she was a minor. But there is, without a doubt, something weird about him suddenly finding her attractive AS SOON as she joined his company and reached adulthood after seeing her as a child. To make matters worse, he had more access to her than anybody else since he was her boss. Literally everybody knows the history of entertainment companies and their young female employees, as well as their artists.

I blame and condemn her parents more than anyone else. This is 90% the result of their negligence and greed for wealth. That's a hill I'm willing to die on. If they weren't money-hungry and wanted to use their daughter's death as a way to gain public sympathy and restore her image after the drug-driving scandal, then that poor girl wouldn't be suffering even after death.

Because of one subtle little lie, this freak is now being hailed and praised by the public when he's a literal evil host who most definitely watched Kim Sae Ron grow up. Whether it was through the screen or in person, he definitely witnessed her grow from a child into an adult. Just to end up gaining access to her romantically. Whether she was 19–20 or 15–16, the fact remains that he became her boss, who had way more access to her, second only to her manager. She had always been a huge fan of his, and that is a publicly known fact. He took photos with her when she was just 15 and even had her KakaoTalk to send her the photo. There's reasonable doubt about whether he still had access to her after that interaction.

More than him, I blame that distant aunt and her parents. They exposed this child to predators without properly protecting her. Then they had the audacity to make up stories that were easily debunked, and I know it was from a place of bitterness since they no longer had their cash cow.

If they didn't mix lies in with the truth, he could've easily been cancelled for billing Saeron for the cancelled sponsorship after the company assured they would cover the cost. They could've mentioned that he left her after her scandal and in debt after he changed his mind (which is the truth btw...insiders like dispatch know the full gist but won't pick up the full story). People would've been on his ass with just that, especially because they had long wanted to cancel him. But no, they just had to sprinkle in lies. Now their whole credibility has gone to shit.

The real issue is, and should've been, them publicly coming forth with what really and truly drove her to her death. We know who played a role in it, (Dispatch was gonna report on it but opt out last minute allegedly) and we know who is at greater fault. But now all of that can't be talked about, and she cannot receive the well-needed condolences she deserves because of her family, who caused bad press to surround her name. I just hope Dispatch will come out later on with their report like they did for that other male actor who died the same way.

This is just be but I believe a smart female lead should be able to execute her plans without others playing vital roles in their success. She should be able to carry out her revenge without constantly needing people to come to her rescue or cover for her. I think your plans should be so flawless that the people around you have no choice but to admire your ingenuity and take your side.

Take the bridge scene, for example. Qi Qi’s grandmother had no choice but to be impressed, even though she didn’t agree with what Shaoshang did.

The drama itself is good; it’s just not perfect, especially when you think about the fact that it’s built around the premise that the female lead is smart. Yes, she’s smart and calculative, but only in a retaliatory way. She only thinks about small gains, in my opinion. She hardly ever thinks of a way to root out the problem.

Take Minglan, for example. Don’t get me wrong; these are two different people. However, they’re by the same writers, hence I’ll make the comparison. With Minglan, she’s very calculative in the way she thinks about the problem at hand and exactly how she’ll solve it so that she won’t have to deal with it again. She handled Sheng Mo Lan and her mother in exactly that manner. It was slow, but eventually every little subtle action she took was building toward a grand finale that wrapped them up and did away with them.

That’s why she was so pleased with Gu Ting Ye, because he outsmarted her so that he could marry her by removing every possible obstacle.

As for Shaoshang, she’s smart, just not very smart. She tends to bask only in small victories and enjoys immediate satisfaction. She also tends to leave detrimental loose ends that will not only affect her but her entire family, since she gives her enemies opportunities to target them.

When she does things, it’s usually pretty obvious that they’ll lead back to her, and even when they do, she almost never has any way of dealing with the consequences without someone else’s help. Also, since I mentioned politics, I think it’s only fair that I compare a scene where Minglan also became involved. The only difference is that Minglan was careful in choosing her words and made sure she remained objective in expressing her opinion. Shaoshang isn’t like that.

Outside of that, it’s a good show overall. However, it falls short the second time around because I’m now noticing details I missed during my first watch. She’s just not as smart as the drama portrays her to be.

I'm rewatching this now, and my eyes have FULLY opened. Shaoshang is such a huge liability. She only ever cares about achieving immediate satisfaction and always thinks she's right while everyone else is wrong. Her acts of revenge are satisfying on the surface, but without Ling Buyi's help in most of the serious cases, she would've died a long time ago.

And this isn't me saying she doesn't have the right to seek revenge. She absolutely does. My issue is that she constantly acts with the expectation of getting a satisfying outcome without giving much thought to the aftermath. The only reason she behaves this way is because she knows someone will always shield her; whether it's her father and aunt stopping her mother from reprimanding her or Ling Buyi protecting her from severe punishment.

Shaoshang may be clever when it comes to executing her schemes, but she consistently fails to see the bigger picture. She's a one-track thinker. She only appears intelligent on the surface. A truly intelligent person considers every possible consequence before acting and prepares for multiple outcomes. Shaoshang doesn't do that, and that's what makes her foolish in my eyes.

It's like she constantly acts without considering how her actions could affect her brothers, cousins, parents, or even the stability of the people around her. And it's not as if she doesn't know she shouldn't interfere. She knows. She was explicitly told not to. She simply believes that her judgment is superior to everyone else's. And that's exactly why she was used by someone as stupid as the crown princess!

Her mother may come across as unloving and even cruel to people watching at face value, which in some cases she most definitely is, but she genuinely was only ever looking out for her well-being. She spent years in her marital home and has witnessed almost every scheme imaginable. She also has experience outside the household, both on the battlefield and within the palace, where women constantly navigate political intrigue. Furthermore, her mother knows when to tell Shaoshang to stop and when to support her actions. Take the scene where they both confronted A'Yao's aunt and cousin, for example. When the aunt and cousin tried to get physical, her mother didn't hold Shaoshang back or tell her to stay out of it. Instead, she stepped in to handle the aunt while allowing Shaoshang to deal with the cousin herself. She also didn't reprimand Shaoshang when she confronted Ling Buyi's stepmother. In fact, she was quite impressed. Although she asked why Shaoshang kept provoking the stepmother, it was more out of concern since the stepmother would eventually become her mother-in-law rather than as a form of scolding. You could clearly see that she was genuinely impressed with Shaoshang and the way she put that woman in her place.

It wasn't a case of her allowing Shaoshang to act in the moment then to reprimand her afterward. It was simply a matter of time and place. Defending her honor while her mother was present and able to protect her was the appropriate time and place to do so. Likewise, her exacting revenge on those girls while Ling Buyi dealt with the heads of their families was also the appropriate course of action. Because it all took place in the palace, the ultimate authorities within the harem: the Empress and the Imperial Noble Consort would inevitably intervene. At the very least, she knew the matter would be judged fairly since neither the Empress nor the Imperial Noble Consort was corrupt. In every other instance, however, she acted impulsively without thinking through the consequences.

When Shaoshang is outside, she's surrounded by people who appear to be on her side or people who just aren't powerful enough (except Ling Buyi) to REALLY help her. What happens when those people don't want to implicate their own families, or when they turn out to be nothing more than hypocrites? Just look at that girl who stayed by the Empress's side, acting as innocent as a lamb when, in reality, she was a venomous snake. Again she was even used by the Crown princess on several occasions.

Shaoshang's excuse whenever she creates drastic situations in the name of revenge is that nobody raised her and that she doesn't know any better. While that's true, and I do sympathize with her, if the Emperor and the Empress weren't somewhat partial to her, she would've faced punishments befitting someone of her status, especially considering the way she behaves toward nobles and royalty. If we're being historically accurate, the only reason she repeatedly gets away unscathed is because she has powerful people in her corner who are willing to protect her.

She's an incredibly frustrating character. She's stubborn, hardheaded, and unwilling to listen. While it was easier for her to learn under the Empress, the Empress also coddled and enabled her far too much. It gave Shaoshang the confidence to involve herself in matters like advising the Crown Prince.

Furthermore, what gave her the confidence to forge a fake tiger tally? She was willing to commit an act that could’ve gotten both her and her entire family executed, yet she couldn’t understand or agree with the Crown Princess covering for her husband when she knew the Crown Princess herself wouldn’t have faced severe punishment.

She became a pawn on several different occasions and she only realized it after she had already been used.

It's not as though she wasn't warned to stay out of it, she was. She simply chose not to listen because she believed her way was the better way. She refuses to sit back and let events unfold naturally.

She's a liability to everyone around her because they're constantly forced to clean up the messes she creates, especially her family. She's daring, but not in a good way. She lives in the moment and gives little to no thought to the consequences of her actions.

She created a massive risk for her country when she prevented the Emperor from removing those incompetent generals from their positions. Then, when she was confronted about it, all she had to say was that she "didn't think that far ahead." She even had the audacity to guilt-trip Ling Buyi for not helping her understand the situation beforehand.

Taking revenge on the princess and the maids is one thing. Even if she doesn't think through the consequences, it can ultimately be dismissed as conflict between young women. But meddling in politics.........something she knows absolutely nothing about.........is an entirely different matter.

Missing the point. Since they added their jobs to the plot, they should’ve incorporated them better. Her being a journalist is a very vital part of the story, by the way, since several things happened that led her to become a journalist. It also reinforces the themes of the story, which are buried feelings, misunderstandings, and confronting the past. She came to understand a lot of things, which were important for her character development.

Therefore, since her being a journalist was important for certain plot events, they should’ve done a better job of incorporating it so that it flowed naturally with the story instead of seeming like it was inserted just so they could wrap up a plot hole. essentially putting a Band-Aid on it, which in this case was her reporting on it. The only instance where I felt it wasn’t used as a plot device was the report on the landslide.

So yes, to me, it was kind of vital to the story since it was supposed to moderately complement it. However, because it was done so poorly, it felt completely out of place.


IN SHORT: The problem was that the writers didn’t consistently integrate her profession into the narrative. Instead of allowing journalism to organically shape the story from beginning to end, they often used it as a convenient plot device whenever they needed to uncover information or resolve an issue. As a result, something that should have been a seamless extension of her character ended up feeling oddly disconnected from the rest of the drama.

So well written. Starry love is good but also not for everyone. In my personal opinion it’s that drama where you’ll miss a lot of details if you’re going in expecting something you’ve watched of dramas wigh similar theme.

I’ve rewatched “To fly with you” so many times omg literally one of my absolute favorite show. I watched it while it was airing, rewatched all the episodes once it was finished airing. Then rewatched it every year after that on holidays and my birthday. I love that show and “Starry Love”(different theme) so much!

The only reason I didn’t have a problem with or feel weirded out by the “siblings turned romantic” relationship in Go Ahead is probably because Song Weilong’s character never saw or treated Seven Tan’s character as a sibling, nor did they really do sibling-like things together. He always kept a certain distance and set himself apart. I don’t even think he treated Zhang Xincheng’s character as a brother either. They were simply there for each other and relied heavily on one another throughout school and life.

I need to rewatch it because I might be biased, but from what I remember, the only people who really regarded them as “siblings” were the parents.

She was no victim. Though she was young, all of her choices were made solely by her. It's not his fault that she read into his innocent actions. With that said, him suddenly seeing her romantically as soon as she came of age, after viewing her as a child and even acting as her older brother several times, was incredibly weird and off-putting. It's even weirder when you realize he spent a significant amount of time with her while she was a child, only to turn around and date her once she was older.

Outside of that, unless there's another point of view showing that he had inappropriate intentions toward her when she was a child, there's really no reason to blame him for her decision to read into everything he did for her.
