What i'm curious about, if anyone here knows is about Jing Yuan and the purple moon association, the same was done in Ancient Love Poetry with tianqi being Jing Yuan and he had purple moon as well. Is there some sort of chinese lore about this demon that i'm not aware of, because the parallel feels plagiarisy-ish and not original.

I'm just having a hard time understanding why the ex-wife chose in-ji , they make it seem like it was going to be some special reason but it's just because of the shoes? There's literally nothing special about that encounter. I really hate that most kdramas the characters can't just have met when the story is building up there's always some oh we met back then or we met as kids, like I get fate is a bit cultural in asia but it's overplayed for me.

they do make a big fuss about older female leads. I think the main issue really arises when one of the pair is under under 25 thats when it's super uncomfortable. In the situation of this show though I just feel like casting Mr. Tsui was the wrong move. He visibly looks 40 and it doesn't fit. The character is under 26 yet Mr. Tsui looks way older so that's the only thing that really threw it off for me. I think age gap works when everyone is over 28.
from your review i won't be watching this even though i love yang mi dramas. can't stand grooming but in real life though their age gap is only 6 years and yang mi looks young so aesthetically i don't think it would be that much of difference to need to cast a younger actress

five minutes is too little to gauge a xianxia personally if its 50+ episode show I tend to give it 10 episodes since they tend to be arcy and need to set up premises if it's a fantasy

it's hard to accept when people don't like your show sometimes but I've had some shows I didn't enjoy as well, so respectfully "I understand" but this had me crying so hard when it first came out in 2017. It had me delirious like berserk. At the time it was airing on Dramafever and I would lose my shit when the internet started lagging or if my computer started acting out. I lost sleep (thinking about what was next) and I would watch it in class ( I was still a high school student). This shit had me crying(legit bawling in the school cafeteria) and ignoring my friends, so it's sad to see people who don't like it lol. I literally rewatch this show every year with Ancient Love Poetry and Love and Redemption (holy trinity for me). It's sad to hear but it is what it is. The show doesn't have a mystery aspect it's more just drama but I found the characters likeable the actors did a good job. Like I hated the consort actress and Bambi Zhu who played XuanNu for like 6 years , I still can't watch them be "nice characters"đ. For me Eternal Love Laid out the red Carpet for XianXia . There's not an overbearing amount of kissing scenes but there's one in particularly that's really steamy at ep 43 shit had gasping for air as a 16 year old girl all this talking about it makes me miss it so i'm going to rewatch but just out of curiosity what XianXia was up to par for you taste?

to be honest some C-dramas aren't good they just have insane fans of the actors that force the ratings . I dunno if you've seen A journey to You but I've been noticing a rise in main characters taking advantage of intoxicated characters and it's so hard for me. With chinese contemporary c-dramas, some are good but they try to pull the same stunts as historicals (with controlling MLs and dubious consent ) but it just doesn't make sense in a modern setting because the characters should know better so I try to stay away from modern c-dramas. Kunning wasn't too horrible had the guy not been so intense it would have been a 9 âfor me. Also Wang Xing Yue being a main lead , it was hard for me to pick up because i have a bias against him for his role in One and Only he did so good being a bad guy. But I ended up watching and I loved his role as Zhang zhe . Everything about this drama was good except Xie Wei's behaviour towards JXN. so for me this is 7.5

It would still rate a bit low because thereâs not enough cute moments with them . In all of them he acts like her teacher or dad and tries to tell her what to do all the time. I think overall even without him being intense I just didnât feel the chemistry.

Ayo you need to relax, you donât know me . Just cuz Xie Wei liked JXN doesnât mean she does liked him back or that the writers were making it apparent that she would reciprocate that love. She literally didnât think about him romantically till the last 5-10 episodes , yes or no? Xie Wei liked her but she didnât think about him romantically till the end. Didnât seem like a ship to me. Morally grey is acceptable but not to force yourself on people and kiss people while theyâre intoxicated. If you like that thatâs cool thatâs why I said it was not âmy taste â. Even a slow burn will have the other person even considering their feelings earlier on . Who knows how the book went but the show was too forced for me. Her romance with Zhang Zhe was better. I could have even accepted her being alone rather than an unstable dude like Xie Wei; he was too intense. Fluff and consent are two different things but I do enjoy fluff. I just have a bottom line and that wasnât okay to me. This is not a debate this is my opinion. Thereâs already enough abuse of consent in real life I come to watch dramas for fantasy â¨â¨â¨ not to be uncomfortable
I loved this drama up to episode 33 or so when they suddenly want to make Xie Ju'an a love interest. To little too late , for me. Honestly, I love morally gray characters but Xie Wei was too forceful and too controlling for my taste. It literally torture watching the end. It's taken me 6 months to comeback to finish the remaining 5 episodes. I didn't want to waste 33 hours of my life so I came to see it to the end. They shouldn't have done my girl You Fang Yin like that. That ending would have been so moving if I liked Xie Ju'an. The premise was so good zannen
one thing that surprises on MDL is the comments to watchers ratio, like korean dramas will 100,000+ watchers yet the comments are like 10,000 yet xianxias usually have less than 30,000 watchers but the comments are just on par with the number of watchers. What is this phenomenon!

yeah I can definitely agree with separating Real Life from fantasy but to me it's only to a certain degree(I value consent between parties). I personally don't like to blur the line of consent/physicality. I also liked TTEOTOM it was toxic but it was more understandable but I don't recall TTJ being like Xie Wei. I would compare Xie Wei to old Xi Wu from the beginning how she abused TTJ. Xie Wei is a good character but it's a no. I like edgy /anti heroes but the one thing I can't stand is not consenting /violence. Like let me consent to choking because some of us don't mind lol.
maybe in last few episodes where he forcibly kissed her but his behaviour is inexcusable most times like when he kissed her when she was asleep. He has a mental condition I understand but still the way he forces himself on her it's hard to like him as a love interest but I still like his story. I've been procrastinating for two months now ....
yes I tried so hard but the past few episodes were excessive to me. I love anti-heroes but I absolutely hate toxic guys (especially in physicality). And the ship seems forced and rushed. It's like she doesn't consider him a potential lover until the last 10 episodes. I just can't but I'm going to try
