I postponed it until Viki picked it up (thank you Viki team!!) but after two eps I am still not feeling it. It sends a vibe like it would be a good, pretty tight, noir(ish) movie, but two eps in they're setting up a lot of things and being obscure for no special reason.
LFP feels kind of squishy and that hair is messing with me, and Luo Fei looks like he never caught a nap while filming this whole series (I know there are reasons and an extensive watch list of thrillers is giving me an educated guess about some of those vibes, but still...)
I hope it picks up the pace a bit. I'll still finish it (because Xin Yun Lai!) but it might take me some time.
this is a moral dilemma question so feel free to state your opinion but be respectful. Sacrifice a life to save…
It's not justified (keep in mind this is in drama. Real-world decisions would be much more morally gray. We're allowed absolutes in fiction).
First off - he didn't do anything wrong and actually helped the sects fight off devils (he rescued the Bone Refining Seal from the minions before the sects even realized the minions had come stealing.)
Second off - he's trying to keep it contained by making sure he never dies so his body never embodies the ADG (as hot as ADG is, he's not actually around but more of a spirit til now).
Third off - he's making moral choices which proves he's a moral person (nobody's forcing him to those choices and he's not making them for the sake of his public image, but even destroys that in order to still make the moral choice. Case in point - calling out the God-Slaying Crossbow in public to shoot down the demons, even if that shows the people who he is).
Fourth off - so far, only two of the decision-makers in the sects have shown moral attitudes of their own, and not a little naivete (won't call it stupidity; maybe a lack of that tiny bit of cynicism that would prevent a villain from taking advantage.) One of those two is already dead. (Not to mention the one Sect Leader who actively tries to get demonic weapons and wants revenge - definitely "morals" at play). So what gives the Immortal Sects dominion over the lives of other people?
I stand with Master Qu and Master Zhaoyou - well the one remaining. They can consider more than one POV and decide accordingly.
I'm passing over so many comments that might be spoilery in nature (PLEASE USE SPOILER TAGS GUYS!) - like who…
So it's kind of obvious after 36 that TTJ is planning to either make LSS kill him and prevent ADG's revival, or just winging it by hoping he'll SOMEHOW find a way to restrain the old devil.
BUT.
The first ep's DG (or DG1) has the same forehead demonic sign that TTJ just got in 36. And DG1 seems to be kind of lost at times, covering up some emotion while destroying the sects and making sure (on n-th watch it looks like he's DEFINITELY ensuring) LSS gets back in time, giving her all the opportunities to see him do evil stuff but allowing her to go through the Array._ And when she's gone, he's back to being kind of lost...
The ADG has a completely different forehead sign - DG1 and TTJ's in the second timeline are dual-sided (VERY similar to LSS's phoenix feather) and ADG's is like an arrow with a twisted head.
If ADG doesn't get to merge with TTJ, why would DG2 and TTJ get the exact same sign? And why would DG1 seem to recognize the phoenix sign on her forehead that shines out at him at one point?
So I'm kind of thinking that - what if LSS DOES kill TTJ and instead of being destroyed or lost in the Nether River or whatever - like she was... he just goes back in time 500 years and makes sure LSS DOES go back (and eventually ends up saving him?) I'm saying, WHAT IF DG2 is actually going back to he past and he's DG1 that we started with?
The Immortal Sects never knew who DG1 was before they got the Mirror of the Past, and they also directly comment on how he "appeared out of the sudden", as if there was basically no DG1 almost right before that time he attacked the sects.
If they make such a time loop back to the beginning, it would tickle my time-jumping scifi lover's heart LOL. But maybe I'm overthinking it. Or even if there was such a possible plot, it might not happen (they won't connect the beginning to the end).
I don't know what to feel about this. I kind of want it to happen. Also kind of not (because if it happens, where does DG1 go, and does it mean they're now stuck in a loop?)
I'm passing over so many comments that might be spoilery in nature (PLEASE USE SPOILER TAGS GUYS!) - like who said what about the ending - and not reading them and now I've come to post an unsettling thought...
I've just re-watched the first ep (because why not?) and there's this thing...
LYX and BL watching wedding night scene of MY and SJ, is this real??? 😆😆😆https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJubvRE4/
He's all chatty about their performance and smiling when it's BL's turn, then gets a bit shy at the kiss LOL. Meanwhile she's barely paying attention to him because she's focusing so hard on the screen, and at the kiss she's basically almost leaning on him :D
If these two aren't good friends, I've wasted all my skills in decyphering body language LOL.
OMG I just realized they're watching the wedding night s*x scene in Bo're Life when he's losing his voice LOL no wonder he's being chatty, he had A LOT to say at that moment and couldn't hahaha
not watching for leads chemistry watching for leads acting. watching for scenery, costumes, attention to detail.…
Myself, I couldn't stand the second pairing but I did watch it through for the leads, the doggy, the comedy and the sizzling chemistry. And I might've had a girl crush on the lady VIP LOL (which BTW is playing a support character in here, one of the goddesses).
If you start TTEOTM, give it a chance even with the miscommunication (they can't help, that's what pushes the plot and drama on for 99% of xianxia LOL).
(Reference points for me - character's progress > plot > soundtrack > cinematography > everything else. So you would see how I'm comparing it to the dramas in my completed list. TTEOTM stands between 9 and 9.5 for me at this time - 4 eps to go.)

You haven't watched even a wuxia drama (I like the humour in YB, standard wuxia it is not), xianxia will kill you outright (and this one of the best xianxia LOL).
There is a plot. You'll very probably enjoy it since you watched and liked (enough) Reset (yes there will be time travel and time paradoxes).
What this (or any other xianxia) won't do for you (unless you let it/them): there will be lots of drama (of the heartache pain and misscomunication / misunderstanding kind.) There will be amazing cinematography and epic battles (this one has the best battle scenes I've ever seen in xianxia) and they will be of great importance to the story, but there will be no physics allowed while they're fighting. There will be some characters that would make you throw your watching device away in frustration or rage. There will be lots of hidden meanings and tropes that may seem obscure but are pretty clear to someone more familiar with the genre. There will be record-breaking blood spitting (it's a trope LOL).
What this will definitely deliver on: amazing acting skills, great chemistry, beautiful sets, the best costumes I've ever seen, Maybe some PTSD (depending on the ending).
If you're of a mind to try on at least one xianxia drama, then yes, this one. But it'll set a very high standard.
PS Edited to add: I watched the leads in other dramas (including in their other one together). I like both of them as actors, together and separately. This is LYX's best drama yet and he had the chance to outshine everybody else. I might like Bai Lu's Love is Sweet better, but it's very probably because her more bubbly personality has a chance to come out better in that modern drama. So I'd like to think I'm not all that biased :)
Scenes where my replay button broke:1)Jing Water festival sword dance2)Ming Ye sees Sang Jiu in the mirror3)Tantai…
First time: TTJ the hostage prince raising his eyes to look at YXW (in episode 1). STILL the best scene in the drama for me. I think I convinced my sibling to watch it based on it (they never watch Asian dramas LOL).
The rest: there's no time to mention basically every interaction in the drama LOL. I mean, even TTJ looking at NBY with a raised eyebrow when YXW - as maid - decides she's going to seduce him by throwing a tantrum. LOL. I can't.
Edit: EVERY battle scene is better than the last one, and none of them are lacking. This drama is the most epic xianxia EVER. Rewatched all of them plenty of times LOL.
Hi hi, is Si Feng a character from another series? What is the name of the series? I am going to need a new series…
He's also cute!!!! But yeah, I won't usually recommend it. It was the final arc that killed the mood for me, LOL. Those who watched it will remember the God of War part :D
I don't know how DG convinced them. Maybe they thought it was kind of okay, since they too have some powers (talking to animals for example). They also live by the Nether River's gate, so they're bound to have some strange traditions. Who knows.
The priestess that saved TTJ as a baby might have had something to do with putting the bone in his heart (before his birth, so maybe she didn't see it as doing something bad to a living being).
Parts of the backstory will be around 34, have patience :D
Panicmode! I think mydramalist was down for a few minutes, I couldnt post, comment or like anything. I thought…
Server issues, happened to me too (also thought I was being shadow banned or something LOL). Support replied fast though, I liked that very much :D (shoutout to you guys!)
I don't think the tribespeople knew he would suffer all that much. I don't know where you are by now in the story, but there'll be some backstory details, and the pain and abusive destiny might be prepared by the Devil God because he wanted to, not because it was a prerequisite for him in order to have better access to TTJ's body.
I don't normally do Xianxia's as much and I'm reminded why once again. I love this drama but it's so mentally…
Xianxia is by definition dogblood. LOL, I've read a danmei where there's a MC who produces media, and at one point he's making a cute sweet school drama and times it's release to fall right before the middle arc of a big IP xianxia because he knows that xianxia always get bloody and painful and wants to get the attention of people wanting to de-stress (it works, too!)** For some reason, that stuck with me :D
I took a look at BFTB's first two trailers - or the teaser then the trailer. The story as in the presentation in MDL sounded very similar to another novel I've read - and it's not the novel being adapted, either, so I was afraid about it, but it looks safe for now. The ML looks very good, the FL has the usual spunky attitude (that I usually can't stand, sorry), and TBH, the special effects at least in the trailer aren't anywhere near TTEOTM's. TTEOTM raised my standards for special FXs so high I seriously doubt any other drama will get there soon.
Master Zhaoyao was busy preparing wedding gifts and missed all the fun.
**For anyone interested, the novel I've mentioned is Accidental Mark. Check out what danmei means before digging it up, LOL.
