Title The Untamed
I want to watch because it’s rated so highly by 50 episodes is a lot.. I’m not sure I can stay invested in…
Because some of them, and DEFINITELY this one, are worth it.

Also, you just watched AoS S1 & S2, they're 30 eps of 1-1.5 hrs EACH with basically no OP and ED, which rounds them up to around 35-40 hours of content (for both seasons). TU has 50 eps of around 45 mins, including OP and ED, which means about 40 mins per episode, that is, 33-34 hours of total content.

So you see, it's not that they're long. It's just that you're used to count by episode number.

Give it a try, it's completely worth the hype.

SO many great lines!! Historical dramas always have a way of making everything so profound and deep 😭Call me…
And here I only finished AoL for Run Yu's story LOL. Perspectives :D

So, let's take it in order. A looooong setup for some support character losses, but no wait, they're undone because…
At least S1 did have its moments, besides the cool moments. I still remember some pretty emotional scenes where Uk did manage to LEARN magic and not just invent holy fiery bows to shoot magical overpowered beings with and NOT die as it was implied would happen, for like, the whole S2...

maybe budget wise I heard it was supposed to be 20 eps but they couldn't wrap the story into 20 so they added…
I mean, did you really not want to watch SO many scenes where Lord Park couldn't cook right, and so few scenes where things actually happen to move the plot forward? *sigh*

Title Nirvana in Fire Spoiler
Is it as good as the untamed
They're both extremely good in different ways. The MCs in this one are less emotional than in TU, and the plots are vastly different, so don't expect the same type of vibe. If you like it, it might drag you in as much as TU, but do NOT expect anything to be similar. (This, coming from someone who watched and loved both dramas).

No turtle. Sad. Also, so much exposition and so little action. Meh.
So, let's take it in order. A looooong setup for some support character losses, but no wait, they're undone because why not.

Then Seo Yul becomes the narrator for everything Bu-Yeon does because why not?

Then the fire bird is released and Uk fights it with the Ice Stone but he doesn't die, because why not?

Ex-priestess just came in and took over a dead baby's body, then waaited for twenty some years, then did magic (nothing really amazing either, why didn't she do it 200 years back?!), then released the body to another person - yay, zombie love for everyone!

Master Lee did stuff, off screen, because why not?

And also yay, Dang-Gu and Cho-Yeon had s*x, LOL. Yeah, important news for the story.

The MCs reuniting after both of them (inexplicably) survive a (rather un-impressive) final boss battle doesn't need to be shown on screen after 30 eps, because why not?

You know what? The first season wasn't the greatest fantasy ever, but it did have cohesion, a certain plot line, and a good resolution, even if not a HEA. I'll pretend the second season didn't happen. (Despite the CP-Uk-turtle cp happening.)

Which drama ?
It's from Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation), the novel The Untamed is based on. But it's related to WWX's great confession to LWJ, so it didn't get past the censorship in the drama.

It IS present in the audio drama, though, if you want to hear it, and obviously, it's in the novel. As far as confessions go... WWX never does things half-heartedly, LOL.

My friends... you bow to no one!

Oh wait, you meant ROMANTIC quotes LOL. I love that TU quote myself - what about the famous: "I once thought you were my soulmate in this life." - "I still am!" :D
And SINCE we're talking... what about the even MORE famous quote that didn't make it through censorship sadly, "Everyday means everyday"? :D I don't know about romantic, but pretty memorable, IMHO :D

Or bromance heartbreaking quotes? In Nirvana in Fire, Consort Jing is trying hard to console JingYan telling him, "As long as you remember Xiao Shu, he is alive in your heart", but JingYan just says - "I don't want him alive in my heart, I want him alive in this world." I bawled my eyes out at that, because seriously? That's pure pain.

Or in Word of Honor - Wen KeXing is gone, so Zhou ZiShu goes on a rampage - "The world is not important, only my soulmate is" and then there's the even more direct one, with him shielding WKX with his body, shouting out "You're not worthy!" at Ye BaiYi, LOL.

For some reason, all I can think of are great romantic scenes of bromance/BL period dramas, LOL. Despite having watched LaR, AoL, AoS, etc...

Is it me, or did this whole ep turn into a complete mess of editing?! All plotlines were messy and interrupted…
There are 9 already aired eps they could have strung those upcoming deaths along and made them more impactfull. Instead we got frustrating slo-mo plots and the main leads barely spent meaningful time together on screen.

That's at least a wasted opportunity but IMHO it's just bad, very bad writing all around.

Ep 9, or Impenetrable Gwido's Revolving Door. At least the turtle made it.
Is it me, or did this whole ep turn into a complete mess of editing?! All plotlines were messy and interrupted again and again, the big fight against 78 soul-shifters was kind of meh (ep 7's THREAT to attack from Uk was much more impressive), the queen was very predictably stupid again, the whole Assembly is now traitorous, WTH?!

And that last scene, what, it implies all the good-side elders are now gone? Like Park and Mme Kim, and maybe Mme Jin and who else? And throughout all this, Master Lee is gone (again) and nobody's ruling the mad house while Uk and Naksu are busy killing each other off heroically?

I am pretty disappointed. I didn't want much any more, just some bluster and cool fighting scenes...

The only saving grace at this time is the CP-Uk cp, that makes me still watch it to the end, LOL. And the turtle.

Does anyone know why some of the channels suspend their drama timeslot? Back in 2013, I watch 7 airing drama from…
Stations (open air and cable too) survive through ads (or used to, anyway). If nobody much invests in their prime time airing, they try to switch to programs that generate more revenue or something. Or even stop investing so much in dramas at all - I mean, a lot of the public switched to streaming and the trend won't revert any time soon, so it probably isn't so profitable to put a lot of money into a drama only to see little return for it in the form of advertising.

Just my 2 cents though, I'm not in the industry.

Seizing Dreams oh ,, I've been dreaming of its release for years now
It's been two years since they said they finished filming, so if it takes so long it's either the special effects (presuming they have enough budget to film or CGI most dream sequences), or the crackdown on danmei adaptations. I think it's both, combined.

SD is pretty special, one of the few modern fantasy danmei I've read that's really complex and interesting and centered around the fantasy and not necessarily the BL part, and Yu Hao is precious. I hope they do the story justice. Keeping fingers crossed.

(Then again, 2ha has also been completed since forever ago, and no news either :( At least the cast looks amazing, one of these years we'll see what's up :D)

On The Silence of the Monster Jan 3, 2023
Just started this on a whim - it has an amazing soundtrack so far, including the BGM. I think I'll keep watching even if it doesn't turn out to be stellar (I can see some raw acting and what the heck is it with this kind of new trend of dressing up young people in clothes their grandparents would wear?!)

But it's not that bad, and I like mysterious characters. This promises a few mysteries :D

PS Bi WenJun will be Yu Hao in Seizing Dreams, if it'll ever get released... He looks pretty good for it. I'm keeping fingers crossed they lift the quasi-ban on danmei and release it already.

She says (in a memory from S2): I recognized you first. You're my husband. He says (in her memory, from S1): I…
It's supposed to be far, far away (in another galaxy LOL), so Uk wouldn't have had time to reach it IMHO. And it's supposedly populated with vengeful ghosts, so...

Or maybe Jin Mu fkkd up the opening of the door, LOL, and managed to transport them (artefact, girl and turtle) somewhere at random, and then it would make sense :D

Omfg , why are the writers doing this????!So Uk will have to make a choice whether to Kill Buyeon soul to keep…
Want to bet there will be a catch-22 thing, like he CAN choose to remove Bu-Yeon, but that also ejects her whole energy and that makes his ice stone implode thus killing him. But hey, that would leave Naksu alive to mourn killing him TWICE LOL.

(No, seriously, I hope they don't go that way. I'll take Bu-Yeon doing the energy dance to calm the drought caused by the fire bird, and that drains her away leaving Naksu in her place. Or something.)

Oh, now I can see some kind of ending, though. Also, that TL in the beginning of the episode...
She says (in a memory from S2): I recognized you first. You're my husband.
He says (in her memory, from S1): I recognized you first - you're my master.
And THEN she says (in real-time, in the scene): THIS TIME, I recognized you first.

This time?! It's before she remembers she's Naksu, and he doesn't have any reaction to it. Is it a lost-in-translation thing, or a Freudian slip?!

Then of course she remembers, etc. I was neutral about Ms. Heo before, now she's really obnoxious, I guess they needed someone to carry some dark aura now So-I is dead.

The plot (whatever you call that) is extremely weak. There's nothing going on but the amnesia game, for 8 eps now. I wonder if Uk will finally realize who she is, now she shows the marks. But if it's in Gwido, maybe he's not there at all. Who knows.

Anyway, here's hoping they do a lot of ass-kicking in the finale episodes.

PS And no, don't take the turtle away from CP! He needs it. He can't play the undercover game for so long, he's too stupid - cute, but stupid - for it. I hope he and Uk really did some planning in that meeting, though you can never know...

The first 10-15 minutes of ep 7 were fire, I don't even care if it leads anywhere at this point. But...
... then they went right back to the senseless non-questioning renewed falling in love with someone they don't recognize. Oof.

At least the CP-Uk cp is back, LOL, they're re-bonding over the freaking turtle. I love that turtle. It really brings good luck :D

As for the plot (what plot?!) of the drama - IMHO they're gonna have both Uk and Naksu die together in a scheme that somehow involves the fire bird (because why not?) and they're going to be like the previous Songrim Mage (he with the invisible poem) and his priestess. Or they're going to become immortal spirits or something. I don't care. The time seems too short to have it make sense in the end.

But I did appreciate the first few scenes - and the BGM too, it reminded me of the first scene of S1, but also seemed different somehow. I liked it. I'll be waiting for the instrumental OST when it comes.

The preview for tomorrow doesn't promise much... and sadly it looks like Uk is going to be the very last one to learn who she really is.
