Also it doesn’t sound like you’ve even seen this show, I kinda don’t think you have and reading a synopsis does not tell you if this show was exactly the same. It actually isn’t, the basic plot is the same but if it wasn’t, it wouldn’t be a remake and why would a studio spend a ridiculous amount of money on a license and then change the main plot point of a story?

Geun young is a terrible fucking journalist >< I cannot fathom how someone who is that easily influenced and prejudiced against people could ever be a journalist. Even before all that shit happened with Joon she labeled him a woman abuser without any kind of proof, except seeing him raise a hand while a woman was standing in front of him and that scene in no way looked like he hit her >< but she immediately went to that and believed it. Then she demands an apology from him when he literally did nothing wrong (she was the one spying on him and the one who threw up on him) and throws a fucking shoe at him.

But the worst part is that she again, has zero proof that he’s the reason she lost her job, or for any of the assumptions she makes about him, the worst one being that he’s gay because he’s comfortable touching other men?? Yeah that part was bad. Her character is just kind of terrible, she is the bad person in this whole situation but apparently she has no idea what being aware of yourself means because she assumes and thinks she’s the one being fucked over. She deserved to lose her job, she’s a terrible fucking journalist she couldn’t do her job right because she was fucking drunk! And she actually believes that’s not a good enough reason to be fired! I mean wtf man ><

I don’t hate this show, I just can’t with her character.

The FL in the long ballad is still a trope, The Warrior princess that falls for a tribal ML is a trope. I’m not saying all their FLs fall into the same trope but they all fall into pre set tropes.

XD that’s Taiwanese, I’ve watched lots of Taiwanese dramas more than Chinese ones for that exact reason. I mean they used to be one country, but they haven’t been for a long time, and Taiwan is very different from China now.

I’m always surprised to see ppl complaining about no personality, cute, perfect, annoying voice FLs in Chinese dramas. I have literally never seen a Chinese drama where the FL was not like this. They are always just a collection of tropes with no personality. Always. If you happen to think you’ve seen a drama where this does not apply, it’s probably only because that drama just hit the right spot for you.

but the point isn’t that men can sleep with other men and still not be gay, of course they can. The point is that boys as teenagers usually do not jerk off in front of their friends or let their friends jerk them off, in my experience. I’ve only seen up to ep4 and they’re not in a lot but even the few scenes they’ve had have been hilarious.

Honestly the first time I watched this I loved it, I think that really shows how quickly society can change and how drastically those changes affect thinking in an individual. If other ppl want to still see it as ok I don’t agree with that but I also don’t want to force them to or make them think their opinion is not valid.

I have stopped recommending this show based solely on the fact that I just don’t agree with certain parts of it but I will still tell ppl about it since they can make up their own mind on wether to watch it or not watch it.

You are right about the excuses, I would have used different phrasing probably XD but ppl will always defend the thing they believe in or like even if those things are problematic. I do it myself I know I do because of reasons like nostalgia and I can’t say I’m always happy with myself because of it tbh.

And I know that bathing together is common in Asia, but the point is that Luo Yin didn’t want to and he made that clear, yet Gu Hai snuck in on him once and tried to force him too another time >< look this show does do a bad job of expressing how Luo Yin feels in these moments, I’ve read the novel and it’s a big difference because in those scenes you can see through his thoughts that Luo Yin is struggling with his own attraction to Gu Hai and is mostly trying to deny him because of the gay stigma, as in he’s been brought up believing that boys are meant to sleep with girls not other boys. The show does not convey this so it becomes very predatory and problematic to me.

XD there’s just so much random shit happening in this drama that hits the right spot for me, it’s trying to be funny and like really hitting the fukn mark for me.

You know what I realised as I started to watch this drama… all Chinese dramas are just tropes. The whole plot is just one trope after another. I’ve never watched one that wasn’t or that tried something different. I don’t know if this is because of censorship issues or because they figured ‘hey we’ve got a formula that works why mess with it?’

There is so much wrong with this show but for some reason I’m here for it. Long Yan as a character is kinda perfect but also ridiculous. What kind of 1000 year old immortal has no idea how love works? I get what their going for and I get that a lot of characters like this are pretty much asexual before they meet their one true love, but 1000 years is a long ass time and he’s obviously heard of love before anyway it doesn’t really matter XD

That scene though where he picks her up and says ‘when they say no they mean yes’ I stg I had an aneurysm.

Then there’s Liu Ying casually weaving two $20 baskets from target while chilling in the forest. I’m never gunna get over that.

But the best part so far, is that random market chick THROWING herself at Long Yan and begging for his help and him just fukn looking like someone just flashed him. The way they filmed that scene too and the way her voice was like echoing? I can’t exactly remember but it was the best thing I’ve seen all year.

I don’t watch to many Chinese dramas, they tend to be hit and miss a lot of the time, but this, if it keeps going the way it is is definitely gunna be my fave, top nr 1, XianXia ever

Thank you for that ^^ I can see paying $1 for 3 chapters but for some reason paying $10 for 9 seems ridiculous >< I can buy a whole book for that price and I know that most web based novels tend to have up to 200 chapters because they tend to be shorter.

I guess I’m too used to reading free translations online. There’s so many available that I can’t possibly imagine ever running out and needing to pay to get my fix XD

I’ve never seen an agency that publishes pay to read novels. Like wouldn’t you just wait until the whole thing was released? The idea of paying for chapters on anything but a manhwa baffles me XD you can buy entire digital versions of books, and I mean newly published books for $13, I buy them all the time. How much are they charging per chapter? It must be under 1$ otherwise this whole business model falls apart for me.

Has anyone ever done this? Paid for chapters of a novel online? Please educate me as to the cost

I wish they didn’t know XD this is common knowledge, all men in Korea have to serve in the military, and I’m assuming at least half the staff on this show were men. Let’s say only half of them had already done their service, that’s still a big number of ppl on this production who knew exactly how a landmine works XD that’s kind of the worst part.

XD yeah while I was watching it that’s the one thing I was like certain about, some writer pitched this without having any idea how the plot would unfold and the producers fell over themselves to throw money at them.
