Title Lovestruck in the City Spoiler
I see a lot of ppl complaining about Rin and Gyung Joon, and tbh I think that whoever created this show and wrote the script wasn’t the sort of person who enjoys the whole ‘everyone lives happily ever after in k dramas’ it’s obvious since we have the main couple actually sleeping together at the START of their relationship. We see actual break ups, not just break ups that are forced or done because of outside drama. I think the plan was for Eun O and Jae Won not to end up together as well, I’m like so sure XD but I’m also pretty sure they were pushed into or forced to give them a happy ending. I know it’s hard seeing real life mirrored in K drama, most of the time I watch them for the fantasy obviously. But it’s nice to see one that’s aware that sometimes People just break up for what seems like a stupid reason to you, but is not to them.

The fighting in this is a bit boring, it just looks like different colours floating around and attacking ppl >_< it’s good otherwise. Also I’m kind of over the FLs in c dramas tbh, they’re pretty much the same character in every single show. They act and speak like they’re 5 years old and the fact that the ML falls in love with someone that apparently has the mentality of a child is creepy. I’m only at the beginning of this still so I don’t know if her behaviour changes, I hope it does.

Everyone loves this >_< I feel bad criticising it... it was ok, not great. The run time didn’t really leave enough room for any of the themes to be explored fully, some of them I feel weren’t explored at all past a very basic surface level.

I liked that Mitsuomi left Tokyo to look for something else, but the whole family business is really just lazy writing imo, it’s something easy that makes a story seem deep because there’s family issues in it, when it actually isn’t very deep at all. About 10 min of the whole movie is spent on the issue with his dad. They have a fight at the beginning, then it’s glossed over by random ppl just asking him if he’s going to take over the business, right up until the end when he delivers the cabinet and apologises to his dad. That’s it. We never actually get to see anything deeper than, he was young and arrogant and bored so he left and now he’s older and wants to stay...

Yamato’ family drama got even less. We’re just told, by multiple ppl that he has a ‘wall’ and pretends to be happy. That’s it. Then in the last 20 min he goes to find out about his family, and finds nothing. Except the name thing. I get that the point was that he had to find out even if it was nothing so he could move on and let himself fall for Mitsuomi, but like I said, all the ‘issues’ are so surface level that I don’t even care if we as the audience are given closure about them, let alone if Yamato is. Or Mitsuomi. Most of the movie is spent on these two, yet by the end of it, I know exactly as much about the characters as I did in the beginning >_<

And the romance part was very rushed? At least Mitsuomi gets to have a few flash backs before he starts to like Yamato, but then at the end there’s about 3 minutes between Yamato asking him for more time, then kissing him at the end...

Again, I’m sorry, I’m glad that others could enjoy this movie I really am, it just wasn’t for me I guess.

Some main female characters in dramas were portrayed by beautiful actresses but they don't have good acting skill…
Yeah your very right when you say that a lot of female characters are written poorly, that’s definitely one of the reasons I never like or even care about them. And the well written ones always seem to have an actress that’s boring and has no range ><.

I think the main couples chemistry in this is probably one of the best I’ve ever seen. For me anyway XD but I think a lot of that is the fact that I’m just literally in love with Hye Sun right now XD. She’s just captivating on screen, the kind of actress you can’t take your eyes off. I’ve never seen her in anything else tbh, but in this, she carries the whole show imo. Without her I don’t think I would have liked it.
This is the first drama I’ve seen Jung Hyun in as well, and while I think he’s very, very good in it and I love his character, Hye Sun kind of overshadows him XD but together, they are amazing.

They are releasing the subs almost as the same time its released in China. I dont understand the complains here
XD I’m not complaining about the subs bro >_< a lot of ppl have been bragging to me recently about how they have watched so many c dramas that they can now fully understand Chinese/mandarin and don’t need subtitles anymore. This is a flex that people have been saying for a long time, there’s memes about it making fun of them, because 90% of the time the ppl that say this can definitely not understand Chinese. They just think they will sound cool if they say it.

Omg if I see or hear one more person telling me that they can suddenly understand Chinese because they’ve been watching so many C dramas I’m going to laugh so hard I’ll break a rib. It’s impossible to learn a whole language just from watching tv and just because you understand a word or two, does not mean you understand the language. And same for anime, just coz you know what 5 of the most used words in Japanese are does not mean you can suddenly understand everything and do not need subtitles anymore.
It’s funny though coz I see the same ppl claiming they can understand without subs, as I see complaining about subs taking too long...

I’m honestly sad this show is ending, out of everything that’s been airing this season this is seriously the best show that’s come out.

Also I gotta give credit to Hye Sun, like tbh I watch K dramas for the guys. Always have, have never been interested or even really noticed the female actors, they’re kind of just there coz they need to be. But I’m crushing hard on Hye Sun in this role, and not even coz it’s jin hyuk in her body or the character. I mean the actress she is just fucking amazing and beautiful and so good I honestly and literally believe that there’s a man inside her body. She’s just fucking amazing.

I’ve never done this before, but I’m about to check her filmography and watch her other dramas.

I know. This drama has many sexual innuendos from the beginning ahahaThis drama should has "sex comedy" tag LOL
It wasn’t the size XD the body used was a eunuch so he’d been castrated. That’s how she recognised it. She even says that the court is predictable that way, as in if they need a dead body they just kill a eunuch because they’re expendable

it's okay, you're not alone tho for not liking Xiao Wu. me too kkk~~ ( ꈍᴗꈍ) but I think him liking her is…
Yeah I sort of guessed there’s more to her, there usually is in this kind of drama. And like I’m not trying to make other ppl think that them being a thing is wrong XD that’s just my personal feeling. Maybe it will change later on, but honestly if her character continues acting that way >_< maybe not XD and actually it’s not that I don’t like her character, it’s just a bit much the whole personality of hers is a lot I don’t really get it. But I don’t hate her XD

This show is pretty good. I mean I’ve watched all the episodes that are out and I was never bored. I usually get bored with c dramas pretty quickly tbh. I’ve never completed one, the last one I tried was the legends and I dropped it around ep 10 and legend of fei I persevered until around 20 something but I’d been bored since ep 2 XD.

Anyway my point is, this is the first time I’ve actually wanted to know more about the lore in the show and eagerly awaited the subs to be complete.

The only not so great thing is the pace of the show, I feel like it moves along so quickly. Like the whole thing With Yu Xiao went from funny pranks to killing helpless spirit beasts for more power in like 5 minutes >_<. I guess they have to fit a lot of content into a limited amount of episodes even though 50 sounds like a lot to me. But I’m reminded of western shows that have multiple seasons and still don’t manage to convey a written work fully so yeah.

I really like Tang San’ character, I think he’s a good MC he’s not overly complicated backstory wise. I’m pretty glad there’s no ‘Tragic history’ tbh. The FL though, omfg. Honestly I’ve never seen this kind of female character in c dramas before. Why does she act like she’s 5 years old? If they end up being a thing, like I’m not gunna like that. I seriously feel like she actually has the mentality of a child and him liking her is going to be seriously kind of gross and wrong.

Also sorry I lied. But I just remembered ok XD I have completed a few c dramas, but they were all modern ones. And usually gaming based ones.

Omg... there have been some annoying af, comic relief sidekicks in K dramas. But fuck me Dol Soe takes the Nr. 1 spot by a mile. Oh my fucking god that character is annoying >_< every time he appears on screen I just explode inside with hatred. I have to skip any scene he’s in even if it’s and important one because otherwise my brain might literally just shock itself to death so it doesn’t have to go through even one second of hearing Dol Soe speak.

Also Eun Oh isn’t a great character either. I know that’s just how his personality is meant to be and it’s pretty common in dramas. But he’s kind of even worse than the rest. Just rude and selfish, in a way that’s like not fun to watch at all. It’s mostly just infuriating watching him drag Arang around forcibly and literally refusing to just tell her anything. He comes of like a child throwing a tantrum. And I don’t know if that’s done on purpose coz of his mom or whatever but yeah, it just makes me angry. All him and Arang do is fight with each other, run off, then come back and fight some more so far >_< hope it gets better tbh.

In the untamed - Xiao Zhan didn't voice it himself. It was actually the voice actor from the anime version of…
I thought so, thanks for clarifying for me ^^

The dubbing isn’t great >_< also I’ve only watched The Untamed so I’m not sure but it doesn’t actually sound like Xiao Zhan to me. Am I wrong is it him doing his own lines?
Apart from that it was fine, like it’s the first ep so I can’t really decide yet tbh.

The other day I saw someone pointing out that all k dramas within a certain genre, will always have the same tropes and plot devices XD. Like western shows don’t. Like YA isn’t a thing that exists. Like Vampire fiction isn’t a thing. Like dystopian or utopian isnt, like action movies don’t all follow the same formula or watpad fanfics turned into movies, or... well you get the point I think XD. Then I paid more attention to it and found soooo many ppl complaining about tropes in k drama. And like I just wonder, do they live in some hidden, magical place in the world where all tv shows and movies are completely original? Wouldn’t that be nice XD

Bro, like historical fashion has some pretty bad stuff in it, some ridiculous stuff and some just plain old insane clothes. But seriously, Joseon era male clothing is like right up there at nr 1. It is so fucking ugly >_< whoever made the decision to change from the Goryeo era Chinese style to that shit should be erased from history. All the guys went from looking like sexy fucks in kimonos to cult leaders with a fetish for stiff mesh

Also everyone ignores how out of place those weird ass montages of So and Soo being a ‘cute’ couple are in a show like this. Imagine if GOT suddenly threw a scene of Jaime and his sis chasing each other at the beach at us? That’s how it feels in this show

This is literally what I thought when I watched this! I felt uncomfortable watching the development of their relationship…
I only watched it for Joon Gi and like I may as well not have, I Stan him coz I like his acting paired with his looks. But in this drama the direction was so terrible that everyone just comes off as a bad actor. And yeah, I usually like hate to love plots, but this was something else man. I felt super uncomfortable watching So. Like honestly if they’d just run with the plot of him being kinda a psycho and abusive I wouldn’t have had that much of a problem with it. Because then he’d just be that kind of character. It’s the way they just go from him being like that, to him being ‘misunderstood’ without anyone blinking that’s really disturbing. And especially Soo herself, she never has any issue with the abuse, like she just pretends it never happened? She’s meant to be from the future, which they like to point out when it comes to her love interest having more than 1 wife, but when he’s abusing her it’s like they conveniently forget it. Also I know So got married to protect the ‘poor little girl’ but he still married a 10 year old.

Ok I’m finished. You know, like I gave this a chance. I watched all 20 episodes, even though at times I would drift of for half an episode before remembering that I was watching it.

It’s just too much. Too much bad writing, too many useless and boring characters, too much repetition. That statement at the beginning telling you they’ve taken creative license really takes up it’s meaning. Like I know the Koreans have something against their couples having sex in dramas, but fuck, how am I supposed to believe that like 10 men in their late 20’s in the 900s have no children? Their life expectancy is like 50. Even worse though I’m somehow meant to believe their all fucking virgins. But like that’s not even that bad. What’s bad, is the lazy ass writing that kills of 2 kings due to paranoia, the lazy ass writing that makes Soo get blamed for treason like 5 different times. Like they really could think of nothing else to add drama and suspense? Then there’s just IUs acting in general, I’ll forgive her though coz joon gi is just as bad in it so I’ll assume they’re taking direction. They keep tricking you into believing that stuff is happening in this show, but, it’s not, it’s just being repeated. Also, I’ve never been against the harem genre and reverse harem is fine too you know, whatever, but again XD I can’t imagine anyone falling in love with a character that’s as boring as water boiling, let alone like 4 of them XD let’s ignore the fact that So physically abused and sexually harassed Soo more than once. Like let’s just ignore that, but, even if we do, their will they won’t they is a repetition of Soo and Wooks will they won’t they. I know plenty of you will disagree on this, but So ends up doing the same thing to her as Wook did. I know he’s ‘pushing’ her away for her own good, but bro, it’s all the same. Also, like I’m meant to believe that a man having an attractive af scar on his face, in any time, is going against him? XD yeah right we all know he looked better with it than without it, but yeah, whatever.

I really don’t understand why people think the ending was sooo tragic?? Please explain to me why you think that a girl from the 20th century escaping the 900s and the slightly insane king she was in a horribly toxic relationship with, is tragic? You can try but you’ll never convince me that ANYONE from our time would willingly stick around in an age where people lived till they were 40 and you couldn’t find an iPhone charger within a 5 m radius, just for love. Try all you want XD also I want to point out that the human race as a whole is getting more attractive with each generation, and has been for a long time, now sure Joon gi is hot af, but you’d probably die before you found a king in those days that looked anything like him. Simply put, people were a lot uglier.

I will support this show soo that all these psycho fans that keep shipping BL actors outside drama can learn.…
Bro you need to chill. An industry that brings in so much profit like BL for Thailand or idols for Korea, is naturally going to have corruption. That’s human nature. You can get angry about it sure, but in the end all you can do about it is leave annoying comments on mydramalist, but I’m sure you feel better about yourself. And I’m sure you look down on those ‘toxic fans’ because if you didn’t I guess you wouldn’t have anyone else to feel superior to?

There’s always going to be people like that and there’s always going to be people like you to. You can’t change the world and you definitely can’t change other people. But most importantly all that profit and money coming in helps us stay focused on the product and ignore the problem.
