I took a look at the webtoon and of course I started with the newest chapters and saw what people were talking…
Where did you look at the webtoon? I’ve only been able to find 3 chapter that have been translated online or on webtoon apps. I’ve been looking for it since last year ><
Yeah the romance just feels unnecessary to me tbh. Like I said Joon and So hyuns relationship would be way more interesting to explore further for me.
There’s plenty of rom com k drama out there, you sort can’t possibly run out of it, so it would have been nice to get another drama that didn’t focus on romance since there aren’t that many out there. Unless it’s like a thriller or murder mystery.
Initially I did not know about the webtoon. I did not see any same sex romantic feelings being portrayed at all.…
Yeah I’ve seen a lot of the lgbtq movies they’ve made, I didn’t really like any of them >< but that could just be the specific movies I’ve watched. The plots were usually basic and pointless and I watched one that was a sad exuse for soft core porn that really annoyed me XD
Anyway if you can be bothered recommend some, I kinda gave up but I trust a recommendation ^^
Oh god >< I get a vibe that the brother in law is going to do something really stupid, but that’s probably just my expectation. I’m on ep 9 now I assume this happens after then?
Thank you, the webtoon based on the info I've gathered is really good. The problem I have, is why did they pick…
That’s ok, they’ve actually just started to translate it last month so there’s only 3 chapter out in English. I’m just gunna wait and see if they continue to upload it or if they’ll stop once the hype around it has died down. I hope not the webtoon sounds really good.
And yeah XD I don’t really understand why either. But I assume it’s a The Untamed situation. The manhwa is probably really popular in Korea and has a big readership, this is like an easy bet for production companies since they can be sure that fans of the manhwa will watch the drama ensuring them high ratings, and they know they can also please a conservative audience by just cutting out and rewriting the sensitive topics. But that’s just my opinion I could be completely wrong.
Ugh I forgot to mention the brother in law >< I know they’re trying to portray him as a good guy who loves her etc. But really he just comes of as a sleaze who won’t let her go coz he never got to fuck her. I know it’s a constant and kinda gross trope in k dramas for men not to be able to understand what the word no means and it’s also romanticised and like I’ve gotten used to it by now, but this guy is just gross. He knows he has no way of helping the princess he knows that he’s only causing the situation to get worse by not just fucking going away and he knows he’s making her life much worse by insisting to stay with her, so right away he very obviously does not care wether she’s happy he only cares about himself. He loves her so of course he has to force her to allow him back into her life no matter the consequences which have been terrible so far each time. I mean, he literally had a chance to be with her to run of together and he was to pussy to do it, move on man.
Whatever else you can say about this show, the only concrete thing that is certain, is that it’s just full of lazy writing.
At first 80% of the plot moves along because of a child whining at his dad. And it continues to use this throughout the show to incite Ba Wu to go ‘save’ the princess. Which he somehow manages to do every time even though it’s set up as a very dangerous situation.
But look, you know a show is pulling at its lifeboat when it uses the exact same device, twice in a row within 6 episodes of each other. Having the princess commit a fake suicide twice was bad enough but having her court lady lie to her brother in law about it again as proof, really seals the deal that the writers could not be fucked at all.
Look I don’t hate this drama, I think it’s ok and if it the writing had been better it would have been great. I like the premise it’s not the usual, girl travels back in time or commoner falls for a noble etc, and by that I mean that both the leads are adults with past loves etc so just that alone could have worked in it’s favour so much, but they kinda fuck it up by having both these adults act like teenagers around each other…
Anyway, it has potential it just doesn’t use that potential well. I’m on ep8 and I don’t plan to drop it, it’s not boring it really isn’t, it just has so many things about it that could have been done better.
I just wanna point out to readers of the webtoon (although how you read it is beyond me since it hasn’t actually been translated, I’ll allow bilingual, but any other reason will just make me think your lying)
Did you really expect or hope for a full episode Korean drama to depict and deal with the actual plot of the webtoon? Not only does it have casual sex, bisexuality and a male x male couple it also has relationship abuse. Now you might find one or two of these in a drama but definitely not all, they just started making BL mini dramas that imply that sex between men actually happens like last year. Just be patient guys. They’re not ready to make a drama that has issues like this in it. And I do think that watering it down into 60% of it being a cute rom com does suck ok? I haven’t read the webtoon (since it’s not translated) but even I can tell that it probably has a much better and more interesting story. But there’s no point in getting pissed off about it, your only hurting yourself.
I don’t hate the drama, I just wish that most of it thus far had focussed on Joon and So Hyuns relationship instead of the romance. They have something much deeper and more interesting to watch going on between the two boys, their friendship is built on some interesting interactions and personal issues, while the romance has little weight comparatively.
But it’s a Korean drama, so I’m not surprised by this, I’m just a little disappointed, and still holding out hope that after the end of episode 8 it will focus more on them.
I feel you. I had to drop this drama as well, around episode 11, because I couldn’t find anything I liked about…
Yeah Oska’s character had some personality traits that saved him I agree, and he was the only one who’s actions and reactions made any kind of sense to me. The rest of them were just over the top bad day time soap opera kind of ridiculous…
There is literally no reason for you to be comparing two great actors to each other, everyone is entitled to their…
Yeah…. I was joking…. If you look through all the comments there’s a lot of ppl saying that Min Jae should be the lead, or that he’s better looking etc. I think Shi Yoon is a better actor definitely, but looks wise I don’t really care They’re both good looking and I tend to prefer talent and ability over looks in an actor or actress… that’s why I left such an obviously over the top comment, tbh I thought it would be obvious that I was joking. Anyway, there’s literally no reason for you to point out the obvious XD but you did as well… I know it’s hard for some people to understand humour online… And, let me just make this clear, even if my intention had been to say one was better than the other, I would have done so. If I’d like to compare two actors based on ability and looks I will go right ahead and do it…
Well, it's not bleached it's grey. I Take it you haven't read the manga. His hair turned grey out of shock when…
Yeah the trailer for The Beginning looked great. I mean I liked this part of the series, I like all the movies, but tbh I’m pretty excited at actually getting to see a movie where Kenshin murders people. The fighting scenes are kinda what make these movies so great and I just feel like, if we actually see blood when he fights it would make the movies so much better. Obviously though they can only do that in a prequel, I wouldn’t want them to suddenly rewrite his whole personality just to see some more exciting fight scenes.
I’ve had this anime on my list for ages, I just watched the movie after realising Sato Takeru is in it, and like I want to watch the anime now, but the movie had a pretty shitty ending >~< So can someone like just tell me if the anime ending is better?
Depends on what you are watching. Dramas in this genre are tropey especially with the more recent ones. I could…
XD yeah sorry I was kinda specifically talking about romance wuxia and Xianxia type stuff. I love chinese horror/mystery stuff and the more realistically grounded dramas that are set in the future or just have sci fi elements. That kind of stuff they do really well, but past that I havent explored to much into other genres yet, you know how it is XD I plan to at some point… when I have time… XD
Well, it's not bleached it's grey. I Take it you haven't read the manga. His hair turned grey out of shock when…
Thanks for clarifying, I kinda thought that maybe it was because of the ‘hair turned white due to trauma’ trope, but it was confusing in the movie because his roots are black which just makes it look like he bleached it and it’s growing out again. And yeah no I haven’t read the manga or watched the anime, I really just got into the movies because they’re produced so very fucking well. Tbh I kinda got over the whole ‘pacifist hero swears of killing due to murderous past’ plots from watching too much fighting anime, I never got around to watching Rurouni Kenshin and these days I really only watch slice of life or mystery type anime… anyway sorry I’m sure none of you give a fuck XD thanks again for the replies.
Does anyone know if hair bleach was a thing in 1887? Enishi obviously has black hair when he’s young, but he comes back with bleach blonde hair, so the implication here is that he bleached it. It’s not a anime adaption this person was born with blue hair type of thing. So I’m just wondering because I thought bleach wasn’t really a thing until like the 1920’s? I realise these movies aren’t meant to be historically accurate XD I’m just curious, I know hair dye has been around for a long ass time, but bleach is kinda different since it’s really just a chemical agent that strips the pigment from your hair…
Man honestly I didn’t think the Koreans still hated the Japanese so badly, but they fucking must XD they make them look like the biggest sociopathic murdering assholes in this. I mean think or imagine what you will, but I doubt that any army after a battle is won goes walking through the mountain of corpses they’ve left while laughing maniacally.
I thought this show only covered the Donghak rebellion, when I realised it would cover the first Sino-Japanese war as well I immediately also realised that this is not going to have a happy ending in any way…
Watch "hello, me" though that's not its main plot but you'll get to see what you're looking for 😄
Oh yes I watched when it was airing on Netflix, it was good, nothing amazing XD but I did enjoy that the FL wasn’t perfect and that her life was so messed up. I think a lot of ppl thought it was boring but I really enjoyed it ^^ thanks for the recommendation
In my honest experience, this show feels like the kind where you can't help but bemoan all of its fallacies without…
XD yeah he’s one of the characters that I’m interested in watching, also his rival and the two brothers. Atm their the only characters that I’m actually curious about and pay attention too when they’re on screen.
Yeah the whole thing with the queen and the king was confusing me already and I’m still at like ep 5. Like why is he so angry at her? To me it genuinely just looks like she’s trying to protect him so I don’t get why he’s always bitching about her taking his kingdom… and like the acting ain’t the best, but for me it’s Go Ah Ra that I can’t stand watching in this XD her acting is so basic, like she has no range, in every drama she’s just the same character with a different name…
Anyway, thanks for the reply XD I do enjoy discussing my criticisms with other people ^^
The balance of light hearted cute fun to serious revenge fuelled palace plotting in this drama is completely off, it doesn’t work at all. The two sides just clash horribly with each other rather than fitting together seamlessly. It just jumps from cute/funny to serious/dramatic randomly and pointlessly. It throws the whole drama off really badly, like the viewer has no time to decide how to feel about the serious fight that just occurred before the drama is jumping into slapstick humour mode. So what your left with is a show that only makes you feel confusion at any given moment regardless of the tone it’s employing at the time. You may as well be laughing at the characters dying and crying when they fall over in front of a crowd…
I know I’m leaving a lot of negative comments here, don’t misunderstand my intentions please XD I’m literally on ep 4 right now, and I’m generally just critical about anything I watch, it doesn’t mean I hate it or think it’s bad, it just means that right now I’m noticing that parts of this drama are not done/shot/written or acted well. Atm I have no desire to stop watching this and go watch a different drama in my endless list, which is a pretty good sign that I’m not going to hate it. The one thing this drama is doing very well is introducing characters slowly, there’s a few in particular that I’m very interested in, and looking forward to watching their story unfold.
