The series is getting frustrating st the time when I am beginning to like it. In episode 6, there are scenes that…
The saving grace from the recent episode is when Tine finally confronted Sarawat. I actually find it romantic. And I like the dialogue. It was full of emotions from the actors. In this part though, Win is winning the game. The thing is the director should find a more romantic setting for this dialogue. Didn't this scene come after Mil invited Tine to go home with him? What if Mil followed him and Wat's brother too would also follow? So, we are going to assume that the two have witnessed the declaration of love between Tine and Sarawat?

I know people are just here for the romantic scenes and to just see Bright and Win. Now, I wonder if this series really deserves the hype.

I have to be honest here, the first half of the episode felt like Avengers: Endgame. You know, they fly through…
I agree. Many scenes are not making sense at all. And from what I learned from the novel, they really took out what would have been the most romantic scenes in the novel. I was even surprised why Green decided to go to Tine's room. Were they living in the same building that he could just come up there to escape from his boyfriend, Dim? And how did Dim find Tine's room? That was not supposed to be the way Tine found out about Green and Dim's relationship. But they changed it and the way it was done was so confusing.

The series is getting frustrating st the time when I am beginning to like it. In episode 6, there are scenes that are not making sense. Who would sleep instantaneously after giving someone a kiss and a warning to not anymore hit on others because 'he is reserved'? Just because he was drunk? Well, we already have an idea that Wat was pursuing Tine and for him to sleep on him after serenading him, kissing him and warning him not to hit on someone, he suddenly went low batt? I watched a vid that this did not really happen in the novel and that after the kiss, Wat and Tine talked about it so it was really a big departure from the novel and it wasn't making sense at all. Another scene that was not making sense was at the bar when Tine employed the girl Nancy to make Wat jealous. It ended up a failure but the way it was also done was a failure. Wat didn't even bother asking about the girl when he approached Tine. Also, Tine told Wat that he didn't remember other things that happened in the bar apart from watching Wat performed on stage the morning after during Scrubb's concert. I remember Tine invited Sawarat on a 'date' since they were fake flirting, right? But it turned into a failure leaving us to assume that Tine left the bar and Wat didn't even bother to convince him to stay. And that Tine was a lightweight drinker that he got intoxicated after drinking a glass of alcoholic beverage while watching Sarawat perform. I am also confused on the timeline of this scene. Why did Wat's band perform the night at the bar before the day of the Scrubb's concert when they were supposed to be the opening act?In the current episode, there are scenes that are not even making more sense at all. I read a few chapters of the novel and even watched some spoilers. I actually love knowing what's ahead it since the series is derived from the novel for the reason of making a comparison. Why did they have a part at the beginning of the episode after Tine and Wat attended the concert? What was the occasion? I read that it was Man's place. But if it was, then after that small party, we would have seen what would have been the most iconic romantic scene that was in the novel. But then, GMMTV didn't even include it. After that car scene, if it was included, it was then that Tine would have found out that the guitar was really given to him by Wat after checking the engraving of his name below the six strings inside the guitar. It would have been super romantic but then the director probably did a 360 and included scenes that were not making sense at all. One of which is the appearance of Green in Tine's room. I have read that Tine found out about Dim and Green's relationship when he was at the music club. I wanted to go on and on. The thing is they sacrificed many romantic scenes in the novel over pragmatism that it resulted to scenes that are not making scenes at all. They really fucked this up. I wouldn't make this reaction if I didn't like the series. Yes, I shared that I was not expecting more from this series but when I am beginning to like it, a certain part of me invested in it that I wanted this to be successful. And that its success is not just attributed to the actors, which I think now, a big part of it is only because of the main actors.

Wow, I thought my favorite BL of recent would be Tharntype, but 2Gether is slowly beating it for me XD I love…
TharnType and The Untamed would still be my favorite. 2gether is a light-hearted romantic story so it is easy to like. People who have just discovered gay romance may like it easily.

I agree. Bright is lucky to be paired up with Win.

Bright is very talented and has certain aura in him. But I find him charming in a sassy way. He is straight-forward. But overall, I don't really find his personallty that appealing.

He is easy to like. He is a ray of sunshine. And I already said this that he has one of the most symmetrical facial features I have seen. He is beautiful.

So you finally like it? ;)
Lol, when I shared that I enjoyed watching it since 2 weeks ago, I already meant that I liked the series.

I appreciate it more when I learned about the novel because I feel like it is more romantic than what it shown in the series. It is like when I read the novel of The Untamed first before watching the live action version. The novel version is more romantic in The Untamed though I also cried when I saw the live action version.

I have to take back what I thought about Bright and Win and posted them here. There is something about those two. Not quite sure but what I am sure about is I like Win more. He is stealing my heart with his visual and personality.

Many people are really into light-hearted romance and I think 2gether fits that bill.

Well, you're right. We're going around in circles. I understand your point of view though but I am more in the philosophical side of things concerning this topic.

It's your prerogative in watching this kind of show. I shared to you the political and philosophical viewpoints of this gay series after you responded to my OP.

We gays have been consuming this kind of content because it is relatable to us. No matter how you see male to male romance, it is still gay. If you are already a 42 year old woman as you said, it is clear as day that what you see in this BL show as many call it now, it is still gay. Trying to remove that from us would compel us to rear our horns and go into aggressive mode. Many gay guys already remove themselves from watching gay content such as this in such platforms such as YT because it is inevitable to see some toxic fujoshis making comments that would lead to arguments. Don't get me wrong, we're thankful of fujoshis but gay series has been always a niche consumed by gay men and now, there are girls and women who are being open-minded in watching them. As you shared, watching this kind of show is an escape for you. But for us gays, we tend to be critical because it is a romance that concerns us in a certain level.

The suggested series I shared to you such as Queer as Folks, Gay OK Bangkok and Bangkok G Story can provide wider perspective than what you've seen in TharnType.

And I also mentioned to you about Brokeback Mountain, the Oscar-winning gay film, in which I am sure you know, as it is also derived from the short story of a female bisexual writer. And the writer even insisted that the film is a bisexual story and not strictly a gay film. So yes, it boils down to labeling and to marketing promotion if I take this in parallel with BL/gay series.

I based it on the factor way back in 2000's in which the gay audience managed to bring over millions of views to gay contents on YouTube. As you said 10% of the population in a country, which is the same percentage that Freud also published, being in the LGBTQ, then the gay population of countries such as Thailand, Taiwan and Philippines in AsiA, which are among the most gay-friendly in the world, already have over 20million, which can be targeted audience.

Take note that the largest gay communities are in Thailand and Taiwan. The largest gay pride in Asia is in Taipei while the largest gay festival is in Bangkok.

If you want to watch a gay series in Thailand, which somehow gives perspectives about gay communities in Bangkok, then I suggest you watch Bangkok G story and Gay Ok Bangkok. https://youtu.be/M0QD8DuchmY

Also another thing, the gay lifestyle in the 2000's among young gay guys including those in the 30's and 40's is heavily influenced by the gay series Queer as Folks. QAF is loved by many gays but it also has negative influence. I have seen it in the gay community I belong in my country where young gay guys don't have fear of contracting HIV as long as they can experience sex and then find their romantic partners from those sexcapades. That's why it's refreshing to have these BL shows that can help influence the mindset of the young gay guys. I know the West may find the storyline unrealistic but I have already witnessed similar experiences in the storylines in BL among gay couples in where I live.

As for seeing TharnType characters as fucked up, you must know that many gay guys are fucked up or can exhibit fucked up behaviours depending on circumstances amd mostly because of the stigma from the society we have been experiencing almost everyday and that somehow affects our mental health. That's why TharnType is geared towards a more mature audience, mostly in the gay community bevause it's relatable in many levels. The gays can be aggressive especially the straight acting ones and they are tend to fuck around and have multiple partners. There is realism in these shows that many female audience don't realize.

Anyways in TharnType, it helps audience sees the evil of homophobia and the consequences of bring abused. It also shows redemption and that gays can make big changes in their lives when they found the right one for them who really love them.

TharnType is a dark gay romantic comedy. If you want a more dark and yet visually-appealing gay series, then I suggest you watch Queer as Folks.

To give you another perspective, these shows are promoted as BL as a marketing tactic. They are still gay shows. Gays still hold the largest share of viewers but then some producers found out that the female audience tend to be the most passionate as content consumers considering females are more apt to do emotional buying. Female audience are more apt to attend fan meetings in large numbers. But where are the gay audience?

As I have shared to you, the gays including the straight acting ones are less visible because of their being closeted or that they tend to prefer to transform themselves as what they have seen in those BL main leads so the chance of getting gay partners and experience gay love is more likely.

If you have seen What The Duck the series, one of the main leads is very skin conscious that he always brings with him skin care products. He used to have a girlfriend until he is chased by another guy who thinks he is gay because of his skin regimen that is worser than most girls do.

That character somehow represents gay guys who are more likely to consume skin care products. If they see a muscular gay lead, they also tend to go to the gym to make their bodies attractive. In other words, the actors of BL shows can be regarded as models for the young gay guys, who are also the targeted audience of BL series. If you've watched the ads of Idolo in this series, then that should give you an idea that gays are also targeted.

As for the female audience, they are more apt to bring gifts to the actors during fan meetings. I think you can see that in this series particularly Sarawat's fans. Another example is in Bad Romance and Together With Me: the Next Chapter of MaxTul, where KornKnock's female fans give them gifts. These gift-giving from fans is also seen in many YouTubers who are gay couples, although lately, it is not more seen in their videos.

Even if some don't admit it, but these Thai BL shows always target the gay audience for viewership. They also target the female audience for the actors to have avid supporters. This tactic works well in BL.

I beg to disagree that BL shows such as this is are not intended for gay men. You might want to check my comment in reply to your comment-reply.

This kind of content can be used or has been used as inspiration for young gay guys in seeking gay romance based from the interactions I have with young gay guys who are my friends in the community. This show gives a positive light on gay romance, in contrast to what people see as gay drama where the protagonists are infected with HIV and other gay characters die of AIDS. This show gives hope to young gay guys by bringing message of hope and perception that they are not really different from their straight counterparts and that they can also find gay love in typical settings.

If you say you're queer or whatever in the LGBTQ community, then I surmise you have understanding on what young gay guys go through when they feel like it is impossible for them to find their life love because of their orientation. There have been toxic beliefs injected into the consciousness of young gay guys in certain societies. That's why some would just stay closeted especially the straight acting gay guys who are afraid of the stigma they will face from the heteronormative society, who deems being gay as abomination and even from a faction in the gay community who believe that straight acting gay guys are not gay enough because they don't act feminine.

When you have shows such as 2gether and even TharnType where the main characters exhibit masculine features, then for straight acting gay guys such as me or those young gay guys that are not feminine acting, I feel like we are the right audience for this kind of gay romance. Not that there is wrong with acting feminine but many gay guys are masculine acting that they seem ambiguous to many people.

I understand your perspective now and I apologize for the aggressive undertone.

Since you mentioned about just getting into BL or gay content for less than a year, then I hope you don't mind me sharing why I feel that this kind of gay content also appeals to gay audience

This kind of content may be seen as a fantasy to some especially women who can't relate on young gay guys looking for love. But from what I have learned from the young gay guys I have become friends and interacted with, watching this kind of gay romance and reading gay novels gives them hope in finding gay love at a young age. I have a friend who likes Lovesick and applied what he has learned from that series in dealing with a gay relationship. When I saw the recent episode of this series when Tine was invited for a drinking session in a bar, it reminded me of another gay friend on how he used that method of inviting his crush, who happened to be an ex of his ex, to get to know themselves better in a similar setting with drinks. It is somehow similar to straight people especially guys who want to court on girls or women and apply what they see in straight romantic movies to get the girls/women they desire or to seek for ideas for engagement proposals.

You may never know this because BL shows such as this are regarded as fantasies for certain female audience but many young gay guys who watch these stuffs can gain inspiration in pursuing gay love. You may find it unimaginable at first but the plots of this kind of stories may have been derived from real situations. There is farce as well as realism in this kind of BL shows.

I was also in a situation in which my previous partner and I both denied our mutual attraction at first until it took us years to discover how we really felt about each other.

I am in a country where gay relationships, though it is being slowly accepted, are not as widespread. Please remember that this is in Asia and the situations are different compared to Europe or in North America. I live in a country within Southeast Asia so what I see in Thai BL shows though there may be differences in culture but are not really far from the gay realities I have seen in the community I belong in my jurisdiction.

Your comment also warrants me to make a deconstruction of the term BL or Boy's Love, which is the Western term for the yaoi manga content of Japan.

Yaoi started as homoeroticism content of two males or leads with platonic relationship until it integrates sexual content in the 1990's thru obvious labeling of seme and uke or top and bottom respectively. The Integration of sex in the homoerotic content also appeals the gay audience, in which in that industry, a specific genre is catered to them under the yaoi umbrella. It is called bara, which features masculine men mostly bears or daddy type but they also include sporty men.

The male characters in shounen ai or as what you mostly call BL, as it is aptly called in Japan have feminine features or one of the partners is masculine and other partner is feminine. That's why there's the seme and uke labeling. Meanwhile, in bara, seme and uke may also exist but there are also versatile sexual partners. Bara also has romantic content although most are porn. Lol

Anyways, if you want to use the BL description and category for the series 2gether, then you must first identify who is seme and uke between Sarawat and Tine. There is ambiguity in this kind of labeling as both have masculine personalities. Wat is sporty, while Tine has slim muscular build.

When your argument is that of the story being BL, just so you know that there are gay sites such as Gay Authors, one of the biggest repositories of gay novels and content online. This kind of story is somewhat similar to what I have already read in that site under College category.
So again, even if you think this is BL, this is not the manga that you might have been patronizing for years but a gay story from a gay novel despite it being authored by a woman. And yes, Gay Authors have many good female writers and they don't label their gay novel or series as BL.

As for making a review of gay and "BL" contents in film and television, there was a gay lifestyle site called AfterElton with a segment that critiqued gay content. It used to help in propelling the fame of gay couples on TV such as Luke and Noah of As the World Turns, Christian and Olli of Verboten Liebe and JudeZero.

Please learn more about BL. That's because it fits your criteria of a content of two males in romantic relationships, you already assume it as content that should be mostly or only to be patronized by female audience and that gays are not allowed to make a critique.

I am sorry if I seem to be worked up in my other comment but I think people now should learn to educate themselves of the gay content in which a part is now being labelled to trigger female consumption and eventually being categorized as separate from the gay culture. Just so you know, the gay community also recognize personalities as gay icons even if not all of them are gay or even in the LGBTQ spectra, so I ask you not to be selfish of the BL content, which is obviously homoerotic and gay.
