I'm not too worried about the webtoon being bad, it's bad in a specific way that's relatively easy & plausible to fix.

I think that's not right. A typical grown man today definitely cannot do that. Someone who does physical work and/or works out definitely can though.
The point I'm trying to make is that you will not have an effortless gait with that much extra weight, but typically even rather well built men will have heavy feet so to say. What you see in dramas/reality shows is not realistic & if you are the women being carried I doubt will notice for that 20 seconds :-D

I have not started watching this yet, but I've heard some things about the plot & based on that the low-ish rating -China haters notwithstanding- is not that surprising. Sometimes the comment section on MDL becomes really circle jerkish, which is not that strange, because most people that drop a show would not waste their time with the comment section thereafter^
As for Viki ratings, everything has a ridiculously high rating there, even more so than on MDL..

Despite what I said I hope to be pleasantly surprised, this one is next on the agenda.

That is odd. Catching up to the West in various areas like Rocket Science has been a common narrative in China for the past 15 years & to an extent still is.

They literally cannot produce the latest greatest chips & want to catch up. They mass produce the cheap ancient stuff that is still very important & everyone wants them, but they are dominating the market with their cheaper prices, not the technology.

While I see your point, the first book had been written back in 2008, at the time China was still moving towards being more open the West, they have yet to enter the current dark timeline.

It's possible I won't be able to finish this. After e20 it went from pleasant mediocrity to garbage.

I plan to give this a rating of 7-7.5, unless the quality changes in either direction.

The audience is 80% women & as such they will cater to their perceived preferences. (they may not be able to empathize with a pure virgin 30 yo woman, but dream about getting together with such a guy)

But yeah as the other commenters have said, there are other cdramas where the ML is a former player, harem owner and such. Korean shows are probably worse in this regard at least on average.

Personally I don't very much care about this at all, I only care about the present time romance in dramas.

I cannot imagine that. We really tried guys, but failed > THE END. Very few would enjoy that, unless it was an otherwise very satisfying romantic comedy.
