It's almost as if, as soon as HL is compared here, many people automatically go into defense mode. On the contrary to popular opinion, I think comparisons are healthy - it highlights what works and what doesn't and are an inherent part of how we process art. While I understand people wanting to appreciate each work in isolation, trying to shut down comparisons is stifling a genuine conversation. Rather than dismissing them outright, I think engaging with the comparisons, discussing the nuances makes it more fun and helps people find value in different perspectives.
I understand that you feel adding the second couple isn't a great idea, but bringing up the ratings is unnecessary.…

Onto what I mean: I'm expressing that I feel this one could have been a greater hit, that's just my opinion. I don't think the 2nd couple is unnecessary, I did enjoy them until I realised their story follows the same old Taiwanese idol drama tropes, this is what annoys me. It could have been more original. I just feel pity that the director added it in such length that have brought a lot of complaints from the audience. I am not denying HL's or TFF's achievements. This author has 3 works that have been adapted and rated super highly: HL, TFF and When I Fly Towards You. So it's clear the author is the key to success here, and it makes the competition between the directors even more rife and their direction a bigger deciding factor on the rating of the series. I just can't help but feel it would have benefited more from a different director/screenwriter maybe.
I didn’t mind the 2nd couple (although it is a tad little more than necessary) until I saw that their story is basically a replica of the old Taiwanese idol dramas. Really Mr. director, that was not needed. I feel that’s one of the reasons it won’t get a higher rating than HL, so sad. I really do like SY & WYF story more so far.
I miss this drama and I’m in a big drama rut, nothing hits the same. Any dramas to recommend that is like TLB?…
Your taste seems to similar to mine. I also dropped SOKP, and loved TLB, LLTG, The Double. My other loved dramas: Joy of Life, Nirvana in Fire, The Untamed, Hikaru No Go, Mysterious Lotus Casebook, The Blood of Youth, Meet Yourself, Eternal Love. Currently/recently aired: Guardians of the Dafeng, The First Frost, Flourished Peony.
I love this series, but I don't technically consider it a romance. It has the feel of a bromance, but the leads…
I wouldn't necessarily deem it bromance/platonic. I think their love is much more mature, and more endearing than a typical romance. In this kind of setting/story, to have it 'romantic' just insults the their characters I feel.
It continues to bother me that the FL looks more like a SFL, and she doesn't seem to fit this role to me. The…
Lol who do you think looks like the FL? I wasn’t actually going to watch this because I’m not a fan of LYF and I think she’s overhyped (she’s considered a great beauty in China). I watched it because of the high rating and am enjoying it right now. Still think her beauty is overhyped though 😂 but I don’t feel there is any misalignment in casting her as the FL.
So many good dramas coming out lately, it's awesome to see. First Frost, Always Home and The Best Thing.
How do you know these are good? I’m just always curious how people know which dramas to anticipate, coz I always just watch without knowing what I’m getting into!
