FL is not really the greatest character, she’s actually terrible. She basically has been lying to ML in most of her interactions, does not say no to those who are pursuing her even while she has a bf and only cares about her work when she did something wrong. ML is too good for her. I love Qin Shi Yue, probably would have dropped this if it weren’t for watching her.

Yup exactly, complete filler. It’s why I’m complaining about the writer, they’ve written HQ to basically want a dog as her ideal man.

I skipped most of episode 28 today because it was mostly HRZ. I can watch all characters but him, I’m really not a fan of how this character got to be one of the main men. Everything about him is so off to me, the writers idea of love is not something I can agree with. He first starts off as a beggar on the street, then becomes a guard and then has the audacity to expect HQ to remember his name. I mean, in those times he really should know his place. What exactly does he feel he can offer her? His protection, money, status, emotional support, intellectual banter? He can’t offer any of this but the writer wants him to be one of the main men in HQ’s life? I despise how this character is written.

I’d rather know. He’s so heart broken every time he feels he will always be the one she first gives up.

Not talking about social standing but that’s also another important factor I didn’t mention, so good you mention that. I’m talking about intellectually, you see ZYL and ZXW are able to understand and match her thinking level but with HRZ it’s just him listening to whatever she says, which is definitely because of his status I guess but also his character as well. With HRZs character and status right now, he’s almost like a puppet where HQ says do this and he does it. There is no banter, no arguments, no emotional ups and downs for HQ which I think is important to have in a relationship. I guess I would never choose someone like this. And another thing is his love for her - to me that’s not love. I’ve seen a previous comment which I think sums it quite well, HQ is the first person who treated him like how a human should be treated and he turned that into his love and purpose. I would not want to be with someone who thinks that’s a reason to love me. So just speaking from my personal preferences, hence the one person I don’t want to see HQ end up with is HRZ.

The interactions of HQ and the bodyguard I do not want to see, I think this 3rd male lead is not strong enough to be a lead. He makes me think of a dog (not meaning it in a mean way), he is loyal and will protect and do anything for his master, but on an intellectual and emotional level he is not an equal for HQ. For me one of the most important things for a relationship is to be equals on these levels.

ZXW scenes in ep19-20 were practically nonexistent 😥

And the evil woman did not get the ending she deserved! That is the most annoying thing for me. And Jiang Zhan, I don’t see the point of him killing himself, what was that for? And Gao Shen, like to add that little bit at the end of him encountering this weird problem, I think it was just unnecessary. It would have been nice if they just unveiled the mystery, kept romance to the minimum and gave us more satisfying endings instead of adding these bits and pieces.

I seem to be quite the odd one out who was not a fan of the romance, too much romance for me that didn’t really add to the story and I skipped a lot of it. I guess I just didn’t expect it in a story like this.

This was really lengthy to watch, I did suffer at times and fast forwarded. I think I always get caught up in Jin Yongs stories (because they make adaptations of so many of them!) but I always end up not liking them. I don’t know why anyone likes the 2nd female lead over the 1st! All Zhiruo does is cry and get manipulated her master. Zhaomin on the other hand is smart and makes her own decisions, she was one of the very few characters I actually liked. Wuji is too weak in terms of leadership qualities to me. A good leader is not dependent on only heart, I think you really need brains, and strategic thinking and he seems to lack it.

I see all the ones you mention are romance and historical dramas, so I would recommend Ashes of Love. However, if you re not only looking for romance only, my top 2 recommendations to anyone is The Untamed and Nirvana In Fire, these are my all time favourite.

If you are not one of those crazy LLTG CP fans, then I definitely would suggest give this a chance. I’ve watched both but currently this is the only drama out of the two that I’ve rewatched. LLTG had great dialogue and directing, but story and character wise I loved this one. It’s a character growth adventure story, so you won’t always love the characters. This is one drama I learnt to appreciate more after watching the 2nd time and think it was actually underrated during its airing.

I’ve watched both and I’m currently watching this drama for the 3rd time. I loved the dialogues in LLTG but in terms of characters, this one tops it. Ashilesun, Leyan, Changge, Haodu, loved them all. This story is about character growth for all of them. And the story was an adventure and watching their paths diverge and intertwine, it’s very symbolic of life in general.

Initially I felt that way too about Changge but it’s a character development type of drama, I’m watching this drama for the 3rd time now lol and grow to appreciate it more every time.
