I have mixed feelings about this one. I feel the story drag as on and on after the revenge is accomplished. Also, there were too many useless deaths and the ending feels rushed and doesn’t bring any meaning to the overall story. But it’s was a fantastic drama till episode 24 !
So, to summarize : for eight long years, and 23 episodes, he looked for a useless medicine instead of spending time with his nephew. Also, his nephew died anyway so the medicine was even more useless. Also, we don’t really care about the nephew : he wasn’t cute and his mother is annoying. Joseph Zeng and Li Qin are excellent but what are they doing in this pointless drama ? Why am I still watching it ?
From one of the most sensual scene ever to the most humiliating one in just one episode. Liu Xue Yi is an incredible actor. Wu Jin Yan is perfect. What I love about this couple is that it’s not love at first sight ; it’s not easy. It's not cheesy. It’s built slowly, with these incredible little scenes, with plausible drawbacks, that reveal one piece of characters of our leads. One of the most intense drama I’ve watched !
You know what I like about this drama ? It’s the fact that the most terrifying violence towards the FL doesn’t come from the bad guy, Wei Zo. The FL saw something she shouldn’t have, so Wei Zo tries to kill her. Sure, the guy is not a nice one but from his point of view, that’s completely understandable. It would have been the same, if she had been a man. What’s worse is that the man who saved her then wants to keep her for himself, as if she was an object. He uses the excuse of protecting her to keep her in his house, as if she was in cage. A golden one, no doubt, but a cage. Fascinating drama. I’m really glad to watch Ren Jia Lun in such a good drama ! I had been expecting him for some time now. As for Landy Li, wow ! Such a subtle actress ! Her character is strong, naive, charming, touching… Fantastic chemistry with Ren Jia Lun character. I can’t wait for future episodes.

Your point is interesting : if the ML had indeed been ugly, this violent scene towards the FL wouldn’t have been depicted the same way. It would have been just a terrible scene.
