Totally agree with this, I don’t see the issue with sticking closely to what was already written like they did in S1. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Sure they could’ve summarize parts they didn’t have time for, but some changes were unnecessary making the once complex characters all one dimensional. I mean all I see is Xinyue screaming 99% of the time ever since she became empress.

But then again, LYF isn’t the first victim to such changes/censorship/etc. There have been several dramas in the past that have gone downhill midway and just get wrapped up so quickly. It just sucks because many of us waited a whole yr to see the rest of the series that did pretty well in the beginning. I think what is saving this series is the incredible acting, the actors did what they could with what they were given.

Perhaps censorship reasons? CX was a morally grey character in the end and considering what will happen in the latter part of that leaked script, they make him a “good guy” in the end. The once complex characters were simplified in their motivations and the ending feels like a “happily ever after” fairytale. Kinda dismisses the eternally yearning theme

I share everyone’s frustrations here, which is why I was so upset when I learned about the leaked script (which I didn’t know about til literally a week or so before the drama aired). As someone who has read the novel (after watching S1), I was hoping they would be consistent and at least follow the main events and keep the characters consistent with how they were originally shown. No matter which character is your fave - CX, TSJ, or XL - I am sure there is disappointment with the iconic scenes that were not included in the show. I do feel they watered down the main leads (who are shown to be much more complex in the novel). I mean even Xinyue wasn’t this crazy from the get go - her development was more gradual, but she was made out to be a one dimensional antagonist (and I don’t want to even get into the upcoming major plotline change where CX killing TSJ is just a dream, and Xinyue ends up being the one responsible).

I will say I appreciate the addition of scenes we didn’t get in the novel for all the characters. I am happy YZ got the scene with her mom which she apparently fought for - altho imho this was executed a little poorly almost as if they just wanted to quickly insert it into the drama and call it a day. It made the Haoling Emperor look bad for only bringing XY to see her mom now - which was not exactly the case in the novel. ANYWAY only 7 more eps to go - let’s see how they wrap this up and if the rest of the leaked script will remain as is.

He is an expert at his range of expressions!!! And his face when XY says she thought he only cared about power and the world T____T I really hope that scene in the leaked script where he says he chooses power over XY will be changed, how can he care about power more than her?! She needs to know the truth!

Omg my poor CX! I feel for him especially in this season. His yearning kills me. I am glad they included the same scenes in the novel - his conversation with his Shifu and XY

Ok so he basically knew she was there…I haven’t watched it in detail so was hoping they would explain - why now. Lol. I thought that maybe he only found out recently but if he knew this whole time, that is very strange and would not be consistent with his character. I guess they just wanted to insert the scene somewhere and call it a day - I’d rather they just scrap the idea if they plan to do it like this. Altho, I guess we get what we get and XY gets some closure.

Ok so I skimmed through the eps and am glad they kept the scene with XY’s mom. But how does everyone feel about it? In the novel Haoling Emperor didn’t know she was still alive but it looked as if he knew and only brought XY here now? Perhaps I need to watch in detail for explanations but found it a little strange. At least CX was there unlike in the novel (even tho he didn’t get to see his auntie for the last time).

Yes 🙌! Also, the evolution of AN and XY’s relationship was beautiful. AN went from not wanting to acknowledge XY as her jiejie to loving her as one even if they are not blood related. Actually I secretly thought AN would be cute with WXL if WXL were a man hahaha (think the actress shipped them too)

I will say that FL had warned XinYue that if she still pursues CX and wants to marry him that she will have to accept that he will have other women. He is not the ideal husband who can be devoted to her. Also in that conversation with her mother, I think she was expecting too much where she says she wants power and his heart (that is a naive thought and something I don’t remember her saying in the novel). Considering how she treated him before he succeeded, how can you expect him to fully trust her? It was always a business relationship for both of them to benefit.

However, CX is def to blame for not handling his harem properly. I do feel for him because he never wanted to marry all these women. But if he marries them to stabilize his position, he has to play the part/act. There are moments where I felt he handled things well (i.e. that boat scene where he gave Xinyue the cold shoulder for humiliating XY. He is skilled at handling people and relationship affairs), but how can you expect your many wives to not be suspicious when you are at XiaoYue Peak every night lol??
Her evolution to becoming a jealous woman was done better in the novel. In the drama, she is just bitter from beginning to end lol and a bit one dimensional

Need a miracle!!! I know that major plotline is a dream but I want the ending scene with him giving her the flower pin done differently!!! And also the ending scene…Although I will say that I am happy they kept some of the YaoXuan scenes and gave some additional ones that satisfied my shipper’s heart hhaahaaha

CX would never harm her, just like how he is avoiding on harming innocent citizens as much as possible. He would find ways to capture Haoling without hurting anyone especially someone he sees as a little sister

Feel like they gave AN more of a role in the drama. Good to see her evolve altho I am skeptical of her combatting skills if she was a pampered and protected princess all her life haha. She has her powers but without, can she actually fight? Anyway, good on her!

Yeah I don’t know what will happen in the next episode regarding this scene. It does seem weird that Haoling Emperor takes her there now, he should know someone is in the house??? Very strange. I didn’t expect to see the mom there, seems like a cheap out lol. And I guess those blossom petals are Chi Chen then

I am still not happy about them butchering our CX in S2!
