Can someone explain one point to me? While FL was in Australia, I thought the ML's mom died. But then again she seemed to be at the wedding in 2002? I must have missed something, can anyone explain please?
In general, I liked this drama. The reply series has a special taste and it always surprises me that I enjoy it. What I think is important to say: 1. It was way too long. This could have been 16 episodes, they could've just cut a few of the unnecessary scenes, baseball close up-s and some minor characters and nothing major would get lost. 2. Jung Woo's character Trash was lovely. And that was I think due to the outstanding acting of Jung Woo, with whom I wasn't familiar with until now, but who made me rewind many scenes just so I could follow his gestures and expressions in detail. Beautiful, soulful acting on his part, I felt closest to his character at all times and he felt extremely natural to me. Great job! 3. Yoo Yeon Seok (Chilbong) is some serious eye candy and he's been on my mind since I fell for him in Mr. Sunshine, unfortunately, Chilbong as a character didn't give him much opportunity to show his acting skills. I understand the second lead syndrome is serious in this one, but in terms of depth of character, he couldn't stand a chance against Trash.
So I checked before I started watching if this is a melodrama and didn't see the tag, so I gave it a go. I've…
Ah, heartbroken rambling just for a second: I freaking expected early on that Gu Dong Mae, Kim Hui Sung and Eugene would all die , but Jesus Christ, how did I hope they will prove me wrong. One death more heartbreaking than the other, who will now pick up the pieces this drama left me in? Didn't think it possible, but I learned to love all three of them and many other characters, which tells you a lot about the quality of the writing. Anyway, accepting recommendations for quirky happy fun dramas thanks a lot.
So I checked before I started watching if this is a melodrama and didn't see the tag, so I gave it a go. I've done a very shitty job, because after completing it, in a continuous mental breakdown I double checked and it's tagged as tragedy. I'm such a fool. Not only am I crying my heart out, I will probably get fired from my job as I couldn't keep away from the drama. It was really addictive, surprisingly made me laugh a lot as the comedy is on point. Costumes and OST are perfect. I don't even know what else to write because it would be just heartbroken rambling and ain't nobody got time for that.
This drama played me like a fiddle. Slice of life and medical are not my favorites and this drama is both, therefore the only thing that led me to watch was a. it's on Netflix, b. the ratings are crazy. So I gave it a go, doubting I'll get through it. Boy, was I wrong again. Beautiful drama, hilarious, with brilliant acting and all the feels. I fell in love with every character, even the supporting ones, plus have a few new actor crushes too. I was cheering for them so much, I envied the friendship and I really wanted them all to become happy. Very nice work!
They say 'third time's a charm', so I tried my luck at watching Goblin a third time to see if I'll be finally successful... At not weeping through half of the drama. Alas! I failed again. Not that I was fighting it too much, this drama always gets me right in the feels. God knows the sadness lingers days after watching it and I (again) ask myself if a love this true is possible for humans - that's a bad direction to take, but hey, why not torture myself a little more while I'm at it. Anyway, I'll end my life pondering here, go watch it if you didn't yet, it's really an experience.
This drama is like a dream. The type of dreams where you have an idea in your mind where it could ideally go and you're pushing it to go there with every fiber of your being, but fairly quickly it starts to get confusing and stops making any sense. I proud myself in keeping an open mind whenever a drama gets bad reviews. So I suffered through the nonsensical parts, hoping for something that didn't come. Whenever I would get irritated with the story, there would be a more than obvious and over the top product placement which made me lose it. I will forever love Kim Eun Sook for Goblin, but this one seemed like someone held a gun to her head and pushed her to write something with the qualities of Goblin (good luck with that) - which spectacularly failed. The dialogues were boring and / or nonsensical, story lacked so much, it was almost sad. The chemistry between the leads was from my perspective non-existent, which I think is due to two reasons: 1. The writing annihilated any possibility of me rooting for the couple, 2. I seem to be very biased towards Lee Min Ho. I just don't believe him - any role he played since Goo Joon Pyo in the infamous Boys over flowers felt to me like Lee Min Ho pretending to be someone else, but that's where it stops. This might be on me, but if a lead actor cannot persuade me that they live and breathe the role, that the person they play is who they actually are, I lose interest fairly quickly. All in all, this drama just confirmed my suspicion that within the last year there is no drama that would make me go crazy over it. Unfortunate.
So... what happened here? This drama started off really good, got me VERY invested, I stayed up through most of the night watching it cause I wanted to see how Lee Kang slowly falls for Cha Young. And then - confusion. It seemed to me like the drama has been moving pretty well and then the writing went to hell. The last few episodes were such a mess, I thought the writers forgot where they were going with it. I could have forgiven some of the shortcomings of this drama (such as overdone tear jerking scenes and flashbacks), but the last few episodes were a death sentence. What a pity.
I rewatched this after a little more than a year and I still stand by my original comment: This is the cutest drama I’ve ever seen, so pure and satisfying, warms my heart and makes me wonder why relationships in real life don’t work so well :D Anyway, watch it! Shin Hye Sun is an amazing actress, she nailed the part entirely and Yang Se Jong is such a cute baby, I would like to put him in my pocket and protect him at all cost. Beautiful drama, honestly!
As a concept this drama is a pretty good idea, which makes me think it had lots of potential. Now the problem is that after watching it I am painfully aware that it had no impact on me whatsoever. Even though IU’s acting improved a lot since I saw her last, even though the plot and costumes and cast were great for the most part, I was bored out of my mind. The romance didn’t touch me at all, I didn’t feel for anyone in this drama, maybe with the exception of the past lover and his fate. It’s a pity really.
That but also he seems to be very likely impotent. When he came to see Hong Lim after the castration scene, he said “now we’re the same”, which seems to indicate impotency. Plus, he was always in the bottom position, so that would also support that theory.
Interesting! I kept putting this off due to the low rating and the comments, but actually it wasn’t bad at all. Granted, some of the CGI is not so good, there are cringe-y moments, I am not fond of Shin Se Kyung’s acting in some instances, but overall I had a good time with it. I’ve seen dramas that were super difficult to endure and they had a higher rating than this one, so my question is: what’s going on here with all the hate? (it’s a rhetorical question btw)... So! Watch it and judge for yourself.
Wow, these have been 12 hours I’ll never get back, strangely I am having trouble dropping dramas in the middle so I completed it. To me, this was boring and when it occasionally wasn’t, it got ridiculous. I was praying for it to end, not recommending this one.
