This will be an unpopular opinion, but sometimes it be like that - this drama had potential. Shin Hye Sun was amazing, full of emotion, beautiful character development. The OST was beautiful. This is where the positives end for me, unfortunately. L did better with his acting than in Miss Hamurabi, but the overdramatic gestures and mimic couldn’t hide the lack of real emotion a professional actor might have been able to portray. This also could’ve been the reason why until the end of the drama I didn’t feel much impact. I am also very confused by the fact that they hired an excellent actor such as Lee Dong Gun and he ended up stuck with such a half-baked character, what a waste. Plot wise the premise was good, but too many “almost deaths” and confused plot made this very average to me. No hate, it just isn’t my cup of tea.
Seriously, im so happy to see another person appreciating this drama, it doesnt deserve all the hate imo!! Just…
Wholeheartedly agree! The drama deserves every bit of love it can get and even though I liked the ending, I would pay good money to see Son Oh Gong’s journey to the underworld :D
So here’s the deal: I just completed this drama for a second time and we can all agree that the CGI sucks, but other than that I really REALLY do love this drama. It’s funny, it’s cute, it’s romantic and even though it hurts my little heart every time, it’s something I (obviously) want to come back to every now and then. Haters gonna hate and that’s fine, not everyone’s cup of tea. But Jesus, Lee Seung Gi is a gift from heaven (or from spiritual realm) in this drama, complemented by Chang Seung Won who could just make faces and sounds for an hour and I would be entertained. Love it.
40 episodes?? That's too much for me to handle. To those that watched both this and the japanese version, which…
Just fyi, not sure if you know - the 40 episodes are actually your usual 20, every episode is 35 minutes long. As for which version I prefer - hard to say, they’re very different, but both made me cry. Not sure if that helps though :D
Ok, so here my two cents (no spoilers): Rationally, I understand most of the negative comments here and I agree to some extent. However, ages ago I watched the Japanese original drama version “Zettai Kareshi” and it broke my heart so badly that I was trying to mend it for years to come (with other AI related dramas as well). Of course whenever there’s a Korean remake of any Japanese drama the Korean version does not hold back, adds 200 new plot twists and characters, which is what happened here as well and didn’t surprise me one bit. But here’s the deal: I couldn’t decide until the end of the drama if I want it to repeat the Japanese ending or not. Even with that in mind, I’ve cried for a good portion of 2-3 episodes; even though I wasn’t a fan of the casting originally I think the leads did a great job; the writing is indeed messy but hell, the emotion was there for me. I’m not sure what I would think about this drama if I didn’t have the mentioned past attachment to the story itself, but you know what? It doesn’t matter. I watched the whole thing, cried like a baby, that’s that.
I honestly don’t understand why the rating is not higher for this movie - I rewatched it after a few months , this time with proper subs and it’s really great. Just as fun as the first time around! Recommended!
Wow there’s a lot of hate for this drama, but to be honest, I’ve watched dramas which were much worse and had a better rating on MDL than this one does. With lovely horribly, yes, the last few episodes were confusing, like the writer of the drama didn’t think they would ever come that far. But the lead actors did a great job nonetheless and the first 10 episodes were actually hilarious. I thought it was worth watching.
This one started off strong, but got predictable and boring fairly quickly. It’s cute, it’s funny at times, but couldn’t hold my attention for much longer than the middle of the drama. I finished it, but it took some effort to not drop it. But hey, it’s a harmless romcom, so if that’s what you’re looking for go for it.
I’m sorry I spoiled him for you, I have trouble getting immersed in a drama when I suspect the actors are actually shitty people in reality, as this was the case. Too bad.
In several interviews he made body shaming comments, saying he hates to look at ugly people and hates girls with thick legs (I am paraphrasing of course). I’m sure you’ll find it if you google his name and add ‘controversy’.
This is a solid drama with outstanding acting for the most part. Lee Dong Gun’s performance especially was impressive…
A few points I need to bring up: 1. The dream the king had in the last episode about him and the FL being together, having children and loving each other is heart breaking. 2. FL coming back to him while he’s dying of old age is just the last nail into my coffin, extremely heart breaking. 3. The whole tragedy is most definitely the late king’s (ML’s father) fault as he made SURE with his emotional distance towards his older son that things will turn out this way. Good job old man. Glad I got this off my chest.
This is a solid drama with outstanding acting for the most part. Lee Dong Gun’s performance especially was impressive and chilling at times. Don’t get fooled though, I am writing this matter-of-fact comment through tears. I thought that this drama won’t break me up until pretty much the last 30 minutes, it went downhill from there with my self control. Anyway, solid drama, could be 16 episodes instead of 20 though.
I gave this drama a pretty high rating, especially because it managed to surprise me on two separate accounts…
Hmm, so a few days later I still keep thinking about Kang Sung Mo and honestly, damn, he’s so goodlooking it’s uncanny. Like he was chiseled out of stone! Woah!
I gave this drama a pretty high rating, especially because it managed to surprise me on two separate accounts - that doesn’t happen that often in dramaland :) The story was good, even though a bit too fantasy-like for my taste (I love fantasy, don’t get me wrong, it’s just that the psychometry part here was used so conveniently, it was not believable in any setting). Either way, Kang Sung Mo was amazing, left an impression.
It was a mostly cute movie, I am happy with the ending but I have trouble forgetting some of the old controversy around KYK whenever I see him. Oh well.
Edit: I see now that my comment was very matter of fact, but honestly, I was writing it through tears, just so that you know.
Oh and the OST slaps. Seriously.
