I agree her line delivery doesn’t immediately scream out to me as Empress Dowager Feng. I’m still interested in this if it does turn out to be a more historically accurate take on her story. The Princess Weiyong was too romanticized for me but it was entertaining I guess.

Yeah, it wasn't perfect, but I mostly enjoyed it. Hard to find a truly great historical piece these days from C drama land.

I'm more into serious historical dramas, so I'm looking forward to this, but I understand, not everyone likes the same thing.

The main period/costume drama I’ve seen rumored is Rebirth (joint production with Tencent).

It’s a different story set up, but it’s definitely within the romantic period idol drama genre. The directors are quite different, so it will be interesting to see what this one ends up like once it (hopefully) airs.

Yeah. I don’t really get too hung up about these ratings. Much more important things in life. I trust it will all sort out in the end, but I think here there may be some kind of glitch.

Yes, his "love brain" getting to the better of him is so overused 2nd ML nonsense. I hope it is short-lived.

I haven't read the novel, but I hope Li Huai'an doesn't turn into evil 2nd ML...it would be such a waste. I don't think so though. They've set him up as a person trying to avoid both sides of the Li-Wei power struggle and someone who longs for the greater good.

Pretty typical historical idol romance stuff though. I’m at ep 32. I really hope the second ML doesn’t suddenly become stupid or annoying…

It's not as blatantly unrealistic as some other dramas, so it hasn't been a bit deal for me. I'm used to suspending disbelief for idol dramas in general.

I'm used to it with these types of shows, so it doesn't really bother me as much as others perhaps. If it were aiming to be a realistic war story or army story primarily, then yes, the training journey would need to be emphasized. I'm actually quite enjoying Changyu's overall character arc and story - much more than Xie Zheng's.

There’s a lot of suspension of disbelief needed for the drama in this matter for sure.
