I really need honest opinions on this. Just about to start.. I am not a fan of Wang Xing Yue in costume series…
This is my opinion so of course others will have their own: I have a few episodes left, so I have no idea about the ending, but it's a watchable show mostly for the cases. Nothing groundbreaking there either, but it's not insufferable. As far as romance, I don't find it particularly strong here - nothing from the writing, directing or acting really does it for me, but again, it's watchable.
If you're watching mostly for Bai Lu, you can give it a shot. It is definitely mostly her story here, so she's featured front and center. I don't find the writing of the character or the revenge story particularly sophisticated, but Bai Lu has enough charisma to carry you through the drama.
guys i finished the first episode and there's already a hectic amount of intrigue and characters already (...and…
You can do a quick internet/Wiki search on the period. I know there are some videos online that do a fairly quick summary as well. But just judging from the drama by itself, it does a pretty good job of focusing on some key players. You just have to get through the first few episodes, and you will settle in.
The script plays it safe and definitely smoothes over what was certainly not a solely pure motive for unifying the lands. Still, a worthy historical epic - and I got to learn about some figures I didn't really know before.
It's not well explained but I think he's sneaking in to see him - the more senior people don't know his identity.
I believe his uncle (Taizhen’s brother) knows because he’s the one that suggested the young heir take him in. But you may be right that Hongchu the King doesn’t know.
If you love history, this is a great one that explores a not often explored era in Chinese history (Five Dynasties and 10 Kingdoms). There is a lot of detail in the dialogue and scenes (discussing politics and the day to day matters of government), which may be too much for a casual viewer. But it’s epic (battles, court intrigue, all of that) and well acted for the most part.
