Catching up on this. A bit roundabout and slow in the past few episodes, but hopefully all the the threads will come together soon. I hope we reach a good climax in the last several episodes - but I know it's going to be hard watching knowing the real history.
Highly recommend the documentary someone posted earlier in the comments regarding the Doolittle Raid. Not sure how much the show will cover (such as the subsequent horrific retaliation the Japanese military inflicted on the Chinese after the raid), but the docu provides a nice overall firsthand recount from the surviving American soldiers who participated in the raid.
ep 20 : I found it pretty fun in the beginning the scene of ML and the Japanese officers drinking😅 how that…
The previews are making me nervous. I feel things are coming to a head on that island - I really want them to escape safely, but it seems so impossible at this point.
It's a classic long drama. There are multiple storylines, including the American side that are developing at the same time, which take time to build. But I'd say in every episode there are usually some great moments of tension and even humor. So it's overall pretty well-paced for 40+ episodes. Despite being made 8 years ago or so, I think it's pretty good storytelling so far, covering a tumultuous time in history. The CGI is not the greatest lol, but the characters (including the Japanese) are dimensional and I'm invested in where everything will go. Even though I know the general history, I don't know where these characters will go.
There are some parts that can be difficult to watch (being it a WWII setting), but it's the not the most explicit or graphic. If you can watch through Band of Brothers or The Pacific, it would be fine.
Err…why is Biying blaming everything on Wumu? She willingly accepted the mission didn’t she? 😪 I feel bad…
She's not a trained spy and is really in over her head. Not sure what ep you are on, but things will develop. Unfortunately, the way the female lead is written is a bit outdated, but she feels like a real human being and grows as the episodes go by.
