More random thoughts: I see a lot of use of mirroring in the writing of this show: flipping the master-disciple relationship, SYS/Su Yu (he's starting to say the same things SYS said about obtaining more power), MRW and MQG (weak vs strong dynamic), and I'm sure there's more. I wonder how much more will be used in the 2nd half.
Loving the side eye SYS gives SY. đIt is saying... Just STFU you fool! Make like a tree and leave. (Totally…
Love the line from ep 19 when Su Yu says his usual jab about how SYS killed MQG back in the day and SYS just says, "You believe that because you are stupid." LOL
I'm on ep 10 and I actually like Ran Ran more than MQG. I find MQG very arrogant and know it all. She thinks she…
Yeah, I know they will eventually get there, but I was again saying, come on now, SYS, you are too insecure. But I get it, given his childhood and youth, he's slow to trust.
Agreed. Exactly my assessment. The ML is carrying too much of a burden and she needs to understand that . And…
Yeah, I'm enjoying Deng Wei's performance. I do hope he gets better/different scripts to play with in the future because I'm not that into xianxia anymore. But I've tended to like the scriptwriter's dramas even with all the meandering. I know it doesn't work for everyone.
Random thoughts after Ep 19: While I'm most invested in the central plot, these small side stories have been quite enjoyable to me and very much thematically related to the main story. They show SYS working along his disciples, as they and he continue to struggle (Bai Bai Shan for example) to grow and develop. While the previous mini arc showed the resentment of a mother losing her son alongside the ML's mother selling him away and then regretting it with great emotional resonance (at least for me), this arc shows a parallel between a man's love for his lover and what has been developing for 20-plus years between SYS, MQG and Su Yu.
Old man Liu was willing to kill others to save his lover. SYS in the past was willing to do similarly to gain what he thought he needed - power and strength over others, and yes, even to gain MQG by his side forever. And while I could barely tolerate SY's smug face during these past few episodes, his presence was necessary to foreshadow what is likely to come against the background of this mini-story.
