Korean and Thai fans too, basically this drama is more liked by the Asian side and maybe bc the novel was translated to their languages, not english. Since Asian market is bigger than people think, this drama got the sequel so quick despite western BL fans called it ‘flopped’ 😇 I started watching more BL drama bc of it and hoping for finding something as good.

Not a drama for someone who lack of attention or only look for a good time which they should stick to slapstick romcom lol the drama was short but they didn’t waste a second on giving the details. Hopefully the movie will have the same level of quality or even better since they won’t have restriction.
If there's one thing I can change in the drama, it would be the way Hira always dramatically falls to the ground…
if we looked at their POV, in Hira’s POV kiyoi violently threw him to the ground after kiss while in Kiyoi’s POV he panicked, pushed Hira away and Hira got weak from the kiss and fell on his own 😂 which was the more accurate scenario described in the CD version. Hira is so dramatic and unreliable narrator made it more fun to compare but also Kiyoi always got the worse view from his eyes where many audiences except the attentive ones believed Hira’s POV.
They actually know a lot about each other bc they only spend time with each other the whole year until graduation…
I’m not giving excuse for his behavior or how short the drama was which didn’t give room for his POV to be more than 1 episode to you but just trying to give some insight to the whole story since originally the drama’s main audience was the novel readers who already know the full detail of the scenes they couldn’t include in the live action^^
It starts as a lousy 6. It ends as a strong 8. Meaning, it gets better with each episode. It really does. And…
If they follow the second novel for the sequel movie, he would still appear as Hira’s friend since Kiyoi told Hira not to cut tie with koyama after dating him.
Kiyoi is just so mean. Like calm down, boy. How do you expect Hira to know about your feelings if you keep saying…
They actually know a lot about each other bc they only spend time with each other the whole year until graduation the drama was too short to include the part they tell each other about childhood, family and even Hira’s stuttering, the obstacle is Hira keeping his distance from Kiyoi to avoid having hope while Kiyoi was hoping for Hira to confess to him and make a move first which cause the misunderstanding in the end of their high school (drama cut it short but the extra story from the photobook explained how they spent their days before graduation).
I think being ‘dull’ is a great touch to his character since i read the manga. He wouldn’t be single while being this perfect if there wasn’t some downside of his perfection and luckiness. Naoya’s perfect luck and face attract everyone but they only saw those and didn’t try to understand the real him as a person that’s why people couldn’t date him for long and left him after they had enough of his handsome face and luck. It’s no different for Kouta who went to him for the same reason except he started to see more of Naoya and knew how weird/dull/unreal, whatever the word is, he could be with his perfection and fell in love with that side.
One of the best selling BL novel and this mini-drama adaptation was very Japanese artistic style and indie film aesthetic, it’s really popular among Asian fans for its detail-focus and subtle bitterness of youth storytelling. Low rating and bad reviewers in English language you might see, most likely it doesn’t suit the ideal of western viewers.
It won various awards not just for drama but for novel itself in a short period.
I just finished making my research about it. I think it will be a good adaptation. I read the manga a long time…
Yuki is definitely Hira’s softer twin brother haha I like MBS’s choice of source material to adapt so far, this one is a romcom but not purely romcom, still touch on the issue of people’s expectation and burn out from your dream career. Fukokiss hasn’t reached the best part yet (it should be starting this week) so you didn’t miss much
Also yay for fans of BL and kamen rider, again.
