Quite frankly, although this JDrama has great performances and is well-done, the Korean remake is much better. Turned this drama into a classic tragedy, without resorting to cheap thrill tactics. The KDrama makes what the characters THINK is the truth, the important tragic flaws. So much more heartbreaking!

OMG how silly are you???? Have you NEVER seen a sageuk??? This is just an extension of every other depiction of…
Hardly - it's very much the same as most sageuks. It just seems strange because it's set in modern times and definitely clashes with current laws, let alone sensibilities.
I do agree that our Emperor and his concubine LOL, as well as Mommie Dearest, are just pod people LOL Our poor heroine!!!! This is very much an over-the-top cheesy melodrama. Cannot wait for Choi Jin Hyuk - although I have to say that Shin Sung Rok plays the BEST villains!!!

I dont think the doctor is actually aware about the fights with the gang or the danger he is in .. its not like…
One hopes!!! There's a limit to being a pacifist LOL

What a beautiful sad ending, what a wonderful drama! It's one of the best melodramas.
Tragedy. It's a classic high tragedy, not a melodrama at all.

This felt a little bit like a dark and tragic version of Healer. I mean that as a huge compliment because Healer…
That's insightful. I kind of agree. Tragedy and comedy (the classic definitions) do go hand in glove - each could easily become the other.

Part of me feels like the story would make much more sense if they were actually siblings, at least explaining…
That's totally the thing with tragic stories. BTW the adopted brother desperately didn't want Jin Kang to ever learn about her past - he thought she still believed she was his biological sister, remember.

Actually, it's a tragedy. Full blown one, all the classic components. High tragedy, a la Romeo & Juliet. Beautiful…
From a literary standpoint, pretty much. Melodramas can end well or sadly, but not tragically - they also are over the top with the drama. Tragedy on the other hand deals with a flawed character (in this case it's Yoo Jin Guk! HE'S the tragic hero here) whose mistake causes the inevitable slide to the tragic end.
Here's a pretty good definition of both:

I don't get why people are saying that Seo In Guk couldn't carry the role. He was amazing.
Anyone saying that has absolutely no concept of a good actor.

The best melodrama I've ever seen..10/10.
Actually, it's a tragedy. Full blown one, all the classic components. High tragedy, a la Romeo & Juliet.
Beautiful and heartrending. Seo In Guk just did such an awesome job here!

I have no problems with tragic endings that make sense - this one did. I'm glad they didn't do what the JDrama did (make them REALLY siblings). As usual tho, using one's words ie asking questions and explaining ones' self, would have gone a long way towards clearing up the mess before it got too deep to get out of. That's of course true of good tragedies - the 'if onlys'

This is so insane! I am loosing my interest on everything about this series! The villains are over-villainous…
OMG how silly are you???? Have you NEVER seen a sageuk??? This is just an extension of every other depiction of the goings on at the palace, just modernized LOL

So far I've counted 5 of Christie's murder mysteries acted out, with a clever little reference to Bertram's Hotel…
I've read all 80+ of her novels & collections of short stories, and I re-read Poirot & Miss Marple a lot, as comfort reads. I also have seen all the BBC adaptations (most several times). I love Christie (as well as Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy Sayers, Josephine Tey, Conan-Doyle).
I have a tendency to forget the details, & who the murderer is, when re-reading Christie LOL I'll remember 3 quarters of the way thru :D Plus, this drama isn't sticking exactly to the plots of the books which makes it even more interesting! I'm thinking these writers are huge Christie fans as well and are really well acquainted with her books. I'm enjoying it so very much!!!!

Title Where Stars Land Spoiler
What the actual FQ$^@$ is that doctor guy giving our heroine something to stop Soo Yeon!!!! When he's surrounded by a ton of thugs!!!! I'm sorry, NOT the time to do any such thing. Self defense is a thing, people. It's OKAY to wipe the smirks off thugs, really. They are all violent murderous a$$holes who are may very well kill him. Sheesh. How stupid. Plus where exactly are the cops? Plus I thought there were some thugs in the parking area? Maybe she might give a shout-out to her buddies there.
Non-violence is all well and good, but there are times when it's dangerous.

Good observations, but I think it will end the same way. I don't think it's right to change up the core story…
With Mother? Oh, I think the Korean ending was infinitely better than the Japanese one, for myriad reasons. The Japanese ending made a mockery of the lead character's feelings for that child. The Japanese are masters of the contrived tragic ending - it's completely tiresome. At least contrived happy endings don't destroy a drama for me (Spring Has Come ~sigh~ I was so very furious about that)

I hope they are siblings. Not because I support incest lol But because I don't want them to change the ending…
The incest is not necessary for a sad ending in this drama. BTW, HAPPY endings occur in life as well - this assumption that only sad endings are realistic is depressing. CONTRIVED endings of either flavor are bad.
