Can somebody please explain to me what the symbolism of the scene at the end of episode 18. Basically we see JinQi walks quietly away, the camera focuses on flowers(orchids?) and then pans to the rock where LX is supposed to be asleep(drunk). But she is no longer there.

Try watching Apothecary Diaries instead. Its (unfortunately?) an anime but the vibes are closer to this show so far. Both are based in a fictional Ming dynasty and the various investigation arc of the super intelligent maid(Lan Xiang/Mao Mao) takes precedence over the romance. In fact in both series, the maid is oblivious that the upper class/royal ML(Jin Qi/Jinshi) have a crush on her.

Maybe the Dai(or was it Bai?) family that has imperial connections? Has members of these family been introduced the drama? I don't recall but I'm already starting to get lost with the familes map.
