I love how the Prince falls into the pretty but dumb category. 😄 The mom really was the capable one. I’m a big believer in show don’t tell as well. Telling does not get me emotionally invested.

The actual song The Yellow Rose of Texas honors a woman who helped during the war that gained Texas their independence from Mexico. She was a woman of mixed race and during that time she was described as yellow. So while the original song was not intended to be derogatory or racist, the kids who labeled Rose yellow probably were using it that way. And as far as intentions go, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions”.

Wanning’s situation is something I’ve always been curious about. How women sold/married off as bargaining chips/hostages, especially in polygamous arrangements were treated. Whether it was in a royal situation or for business.
Wanning might have already started down a bad path before being sent away. This princess’ family had problems. The current emperor’s favorite consort felt more like a mother figure. And as much as everyone harped on Jiang Li’s fratricide, the only one who actually attempted it was Prince Cheng-twice!🗡️ Being part of a royal family could be hazardous to one’s physical and mental health.💀
