Jiang Li is my vote. She did nothing wrong and died anyway with her trashed reputation. Plus the physical abuse. Oh and the two families fell out over the words of a 4 year old. 🙄 Wanning suffered greatly but it felt like retrofitting her story to make her more palatable as her death neared.

Jiang wife killed a child, murdered a legitimate wife, tried to murder her lover, killed his unborn child and blamed it on Jiang Li, her actions led to the deaths of Jiang Li, Tong, and Consort Hu, and her lover the second time. This was a very common fight choreography for the time. I’ve watched enough of these to be able to roll with it. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. 😄
The score was truly perfect. They don't make scores like that anymore 😭
For a 1954 movie it was both socially topical and had decent special effects. Ifukube’s score was iconic and used in Minus One as well. Big G deserved his own theme music. 😁

This one felt like a bad “gotcha!” ending. It would have been a great cliffhanger ending if S2 was already scheduled for next year. But I’ve been burned too many times with Cdramas to hope for that. 🔥

This was a hard one to write. I enjoyed it but objectively it had problems.
I’ve only see MYL in Miss S and while it was a campy role quite enjoyed her performance. Haven’t seen the ML in anything yet.
