Hello! I'm new to j-dramas (I've only seen anime adaptations tbh) so if you have recommendations of good mystery/investigation…

I might have missed some dramas, but these are what I can remember at the moment
Rewatched this drama recently because I felt like I have missed something after watching SICK's series. It seemed like a lot of references in the new series were taken from this first season instead of SPEC.
This was such a fun, high school yankee drama with strong values of friendship and family. It was also very entertaining that I had to marathon all episodes in one go. Perfect for watching with friends and family.
The writing was a bit disappointing. There's some problem with the logic of the case and the crime motivation. The production style suddenly changed from the previous 2 series, especially on lighting which in this one is more closer to the Aku no Hado's style. This series also reminds me of why I don't like Kimura Fumino's acting....haha
But don't worry, it's still worth your time if you have been following the whole series. So don't hesitate to watch this one!
I find the case in this second series is more intriguing than the first one...but as a whole the first series was a bit better in terms of entertainment value IMO.
This is just didn't work for me probably because of its almost independent, sub-episodic format within the main episode...although like some person has mentioned below, it did pick up after Ep4. I also find it hard to be watched back to back. And the story-line felt like it's geared towards younger female audience, so other demographic (at least me) might not find this as intriguing unless you're fans of the actors.
Not a fan of Fukuda Yuichi style of comedy but I totally enjoyed this drama! I guess the fun, and cuteness of the plot has made up for it. It has also more positive vibe considering this kind of story could be stressful and a bit "toxic" according to nowadays definition.
Also, this drama has less adlib (thank god Sato Jiro only appeared in Ep1) and less "lengthy line kind of jokes" unlike in his other dramas, so I had my good time laughing at most of the comedies. Loved the many pop-cultural references too.
This was an okay-ish drama in my opinion despite a high quality production from WOWOW. The plot was a bit unrealistic and writing+directing of the MC could have been done better. If I want to make a comparison with other drama with the same genre from the same season, Touboui F might be 100 times better in terms of the plot than Shoutai. However, I rated both dramas at 7.5....so they are roughly the same in terms of my overall satisfaction.
The premise was interesting, but to be honest I found the plot was bland and boring...I couldn't care less about Kaneko Daichi's character (which was very stereotyped)...it's unfortunate that this boring character has more screen time than Shimobee in this drama...not sure how the manga was like...perhaps the source material wasn't that great to begin with...
To be honest the plot was okay and watchable (although it's predictable and cliche). The only problem for this drama is its production and direction...lol The comedy was a bit hard to laugh at (some were dark comedies) and just came up out of nowhere despite the seriousness tone of the drama...then again the viewers have to deal with the overacting too and bad BGM at the same time...If you can handle these things, you're good to go.
A very well done drama. The best part of the writing was probably on the emotion and human relationship among the characters. The war part was straight of the history book, and viewers who are not familiar with the events might have to do some additional readings to get bigger picture of it.
The action scene during the war was really jaw dropping. It's rare to see something as great as war portrayals in Saka no Ue no Kumo in any other Japanese TVs in my opinion and it involved many international actors too that made the drama looks more believable.
Their research on the military equipment, navy fleets and gunneries (not only for the Japan but for other countries), as well as the communication during that time period, is something to be praised for. If you like war and military you wouldn't want to miss this one.
Thank you so much! I'm a novice of Japanese history but this period has really captured my interest. I've learned…
Thanks for reading my review, and for writing nice comment about it! I really appreciate it.
I'm not an expert in Japanese history and I only learn from drama and wiki...lol In other words, I have limited reference when it comes to this subject...So please don't take my opinion seriously other than as a casual J-historical drama fan.
To be honest I can't remember any Shiba clan involvement in this drama, maybe it was there but I have somehow missed it or I have forgotten about it. So, to answer your question I looked at the wiki page too
My wild guess is that, they used Ashikaga name until the establishment of Ashikaga Shogunate. They owned the "Shiba" name at the end of 13th century but they were probably stick with Ashikaga. Maybe they couldn't change the name without Kamakura (Hojo) permission. That's why after new Shogunate formed they were able to request to use the new name. Just my wild wild guess though...
It is also possible to change the name back and forth as what happened to Kiso Yoshinaka when he became the Shogun during late Heian after chasing Taira out of Kyoto. He revert back to Minamoto then. He was originally Minamoto. When he resided in Kiso, he changed to Kiso, but then changed back to Minamoto when he became Shogun.
But there were no "samurai ethics" yet during that time, so maybe this example can't be applied to Shiba's case.
Yes, this movie is good and fun... UNTIL IT MAKES IT'S MIND IN THE END THAT IT NEEDS TO END BAD!I HATE IT!Seriously,…
Haha...I totally agree with you! I don't like the ending either. I think the message was too shallow. I guess a more typical ending without the "love confession" would be good enough for this kind of movie.
This drama is good but it would've been excellent if they could put more effort on the actions part as well as the CGI. I also noticed TBS broadcast and Netflix have different cuts respectively (as the ripped sub won't sync so easily with the TV raw). I wonder if it makes any different.
