Want to fine tune my understanding of some symbolism in this series with the jade flute. If any of you deep thinking individuals or anyone with more Chinese cultural knowledge would be so kind as to share some of your wisdom? (Please see spoiler reply below for question).
I watched this when it first aired and loved it for the strong female lead. l just rewatched it and boy...... now i realize that this is a drama about a normal MODERN women in a really really REALLY sexist society. Even the male lead was getting $h!t for doing what was perceived as a 'woman's role': single working parent raising a child and also taking care of elderly parent. So crazy how you see things in life almost a decade later. I feel like this story really wanted you to see the sexism in the world by blatantly flipping a 'traditional' male vs female role in a story. We just need more woman like her to push society forward toward equality <3
I always give a long series at least a 5 episode watch before deciding to continue or drop. Make it to the end…
I was bored initially also until end of ep 2/beginning of ep3 when a bread crumb of a plot point enticed me. Then another dropped by end of ep 5 and I was like "ok.....you got me interested.....I gotta find out what's going on and where this goes! :D
Is there any romance angle at all which is part of the plot?
It is like Nirvana in Fire where there is references to an old PAST romance, but it is years later and the characters have moved (or learn to move) on since they are different people with different lives. But it is a minimal part of the story. So no, this is NOT a romance story. Its focus is more on friendships and camaraderie, moving on from the past, living how you want to live, redemption, hidden identity, mystery, martial arts. It is so fun!
Does this drama get better after few episodes ? I have watched 20 min and I am actually bored since the 1rst minute...…
I always give a long series at least a 5 episode watch before deciding to continue or drop. Make it to the end of ep 5 and then see :) Long series always take a long time to introduce the story. They give you a trail of bread crumbs to tempt you into a mystery to want to know more.....
Not sure what I think about the whole cast completely changing since I really liked the previous cast. Every time this happens, I just can't get into the series since it distracts me and drops my enjoyment/attachment of characters. Especially when the original actors fully embody their character so much that they ARE the character. The ONLY exception for me is all the series based on Wi Xie novels (Ultimate Note/Reunion Sounds of Providence/Lost Tomb/etc).... for some reason that just worked, but I don't know why.
I'll still give first eps a try to see if the characters pull me in. I am just not optimistic that this will be the same, so I am worried..... Anyone else feel the same? Any thoughts?
What is the real ending in novel? Can u tell in more detail
Are you sure? It is so sad, I hate it.
Xiaobao finds him some months (possibly years) later still alive living on the coast. Li Lianhua is completely mad and partially crippled (due to affects of poison). He interacts with Xiabao but doesn't know who he is. Li Lianhua is even playing chess with a 'rich man'.....who we get hints at are Xiabao in Li Lianhua's mind. Remember, the poison is supposed to make him live in illusions and that is what happens in book. I really thought is so sad him losing his mind. Sure, he is alive, living freely by the sea....fishing, but he is unaware of his friends at all. I think death is better honestly. But if life if most important, than Li Lianhua does live on....his yangzouman must have protected his life in some way.....and his 'disciple' Xiaboao does visit him even though Li Lianhua doesn't realize who he is. Ugh.....so sad to me.
I see a lot of people seem to love this drama. I'm about mid way through so far. I must say the drama itself is…
For first 3rd of series, I found her character strange, but interesting (she's an immortal afterall and not human so act sort of off) even if she was erratic and contradictory and sometimes annoying. The middle third, I couldn't stand her character as the clam girl in the 'dream'; she was too naive and annoying and dumb. I'll admit I was a little bored of this dream story even though it gave some important plot points regarding the battle 10,000 years ago. She was much better in the last 3rd because it felt better presented to show her thoughts more which made a little more sense. Maybe it was her 'growth' shining through.
I had the thought that they would both end up gods in the end considering the sacrifice story from her father in the 'dream' story. The one about the man who gave his flesh willingly. Anyway.....
The lack of communication this couple had though the whole series was the most tragic thing. If they only communicated, most of the misfortunes wouldn't have happened. Maybe that should be the main lesson of the story ;D
This started so well, after watching EP 1 I had high hopes, but after EP 3 this just kept going downhill... it's…
I really loved the online gaming team concept. Make friends/connect online, then meet in real life shenanigans. That alone would have been more than enough for my geeky gaming self to LOVE.
I liked ailongnhai because it's a cute little show to watch when your not trying to watch an intense series and…
Same. Sometimes I feel like other people want way too much plot when in reality life is often pretty simple. I often like shows that go the more simple character driven route since it is relaxing.
Nice light little character driven BL. Better than most I have seen over the years. They do in the first 2 eps what most take 10 eps to get to so kind of refreshing! Most of the story is with them 'together' and navigating life. Enjoyed the chemistry and some of their conversations. The amount of teasing they do is more reflective of couples in reality so I appreciated it. Supportive dads <3 Fun and interesting group of friends <3 There was some over-the-top drama tossed in toward end as if their editor was like "you gotta have some kind of drama before we will publish this!" :D But I've seen crazier so it was fine :D
I loved this! It was so cheesy and goofy and just fun. Exactly what my stressed self needed. Seriously, we should all make simple bucket lists and complete a few items each week. May help improve mood ;D
Disclaimer: I watched this after a long day of work with some friends, drinking beer and munching on wasabi peas. Zombie movies are always best with friends.
I feel like I am watching a stage play! (with all the characters talking to the camera and crazy lighting). Different and interesting. Such a commentary on the internal turmoil of humans in 'love' with all the doubts and over-thinking that naturally happens. I like it so far!
How is Love in the Galaxy so far?

Also, the intro song is killing it.
