To be honest, some of her facial features are somewhat unlike the typical Han Chinese. Her high bridge nose, for instance; not many Han Chinese have that. But, I find that this is very superficial. With good hairstylists and make up artists, they can make her look every bit Chinese as all those Han Chinese actresses. And she speaks excellent Mandarin, which is why she is such a popular product endorser.

Haha. I usually don't read the source material before I start watching a drama. This way, I will not be 'spoiled'. For me at least, I prefer the drama to tell me the story, and want every episode to be a total surprise.
I do understand there are those who prefer reading the source material prior to viewing the drama, and that is ok too. They will likely take a shorter time to understand the characters and the story line.
