So Chang Yi was patiently waiting for Ji Yun He to go back to him as soon as the evil spirit of Shunde, which…
I know your frustration. In the tweet above, it is explained how she got her tail. How Ji Yun He got out is not fully explained, but she did say, before she was sealed by Changyi, that when the evil spirit within her is all gone, she will find a way to get back to Changyi, which she did. So, that is exactly what happened. 300 years after the sealing, the evil spirit within in her was all gone.
And that fish tail, even without the official explanation, given in the tweet above, we had suspected it was due to the pearl, and the fact that the pearl had remained in her body in all those 300 years. Plus her body was in the lava lake. So, we suspected that, that likely caused her to turn into mermaid.
But, yes, I fully agree with you. If they had explained it in the drama, then, we do not need to speculate at all.
Found this on twitter. If the pic is true ... Damn bloody director n editor ... they cut off the part where they…
I agree with you. They were well within the episode limit. 5 more minutes would not have hurt. But, even without the text in this Tweet, we suspected as much that it has to do with last pearl that he gave her, and the fact that she was trapped in that lake for 300 years. So, over that 300 years, that pearl (plus maybe even the fire as well) changed her fox tail into fish tail.
So, honestly, I am not too sure who should get the blame. If they did shoot the scene mentioned in the text, the editor should get the blame. If that scene was never even shot, the director should get the blame.
But, I do not see this as a big blunder. A little guess work on our part is all it took, to solve the mystery how she got that fishtail. Please forgive me, if I sound too forgiving of the director or scripwriter. As a whole, this drama is truly amazing.
If we could post gifs on this site, I would be posting a headdesk one right now
I am with you. But, there is nothing Croton Media can do about it. It seems Youku is the main investor for this drama, and hence they called the shots. Croton Media needs to abide by their agreement, which is to say we can only get the subs after May 18. I was really hoping that right after tonight, we could get it.
No no. My Mandarin is not even half as good as yours. Lots of the stuff, I merely guessed, base on whatever Mandarin I can understand and then watching their actions. Not only that, I did not even read the novel.
But, after reading the last chapter of the novel attached by Bec above, I realised that they changed the ending quite a bit. You will understand me, when you have watched the final two episodes.
I still like the drama ending very much. It is a happy ending, just like the novel, even if it is a bit different.
To all who are waiting for the English sub, I wish to you let you know that I got in touch with Croton Media. Please just read this and keep to yourself. I am not entirely sure I am allowed to pass this around.
The person on the other end said the agreement with Youku was that they are only allowed to release the English sub, when the drama is completely aired in China for all Youku members. Right now, by tonight, only VIP members have finished watching all the episodes. Non-VIP members will only watch the final episode on May 18.

Is it right that before when CY gave YH the pearl is when he already cut his tail and this time when he grow back…
The director and scriptwriter did not explain. But, we suspect the final pearl that he gave to YH, because it was in her body for so long and her body was in that lave lake for so long, it likely transformed her body, and changed her into a mermaid.
Yes, it is different. Quite a lot of details are different. I think they had to change it. Ji Yunhe losing her arm, I am not sure that will pass censorship.
In the novel, they met again very soon. In the drama, I think much much longer? But they did shorten it and jump right to the end, the part where they sat on the cliff. So, it is not so bad.
There is nothing about Ji Yunhe turning into a mermaid, but in the drama, she did. Another adaptation by the scriptwriter and/or director.
Yes, it is a happy ending. I do like it that they are both now merfolks and are also able to walk on land. At least according to the drama. It seems they can have those tails instantly, whenever they want it.
Can I just say that I feel scam when I thought they died π I cried!
Lin Hao Qin did die. But, somehow, he came back alive. I will re-watch that part again. See if it is explained how he came back alive. The scene was very sad, when Ji Yunhe's sword plunge into him. I cried too.
They really had a very difficult relationship. Their brief periods of happiness were always punctuated with great…
Yes, happy ending for so many couples. I think the director just wanted to make everyone happy. Like you said in the post below, in a fantasy world, anything can happen.
I suppose the most important thing is that the evil Shunde is no more. And just about everyone who is still alive will have a happy life from hereon.
I tried to explain below, but may not be 100% accurate. Look for it.
Yes, that part was not properly explained, leaving us to speculate that it must have something to do with the pearl and her long period of confinement in that lava lake. It is possible that the pearl within her, plus the long period of confinement led to her body slowly evolved to become a mermaid.
Yes, regardless of the process, we are happy that they are finally together. No more evil Shunde around. They can travel around the world.
It seems that now they have both legs and tails. So, they can travel everywhere on land, and also go wherever they wish to go in the seas. What wonderful freedom for both of them!

Not sure if she even became a mermaid in the novel and not sure if it was explained there.
But, I suppose it is not all that important? Maybe the director left it as a gift for us? Leave us to speculate?
It was a very joyful ending.
