Gu Man did not do much for the drama, since she pretty much followed her own novel. The people who deserve the most praise for the success of this drama are Dilraba and Yang Yang, followed by the director. They are the ones who brought the novel to life. Honestly, without the great visuals of DD and YY, and their amazing chemistry. this drama would not have gotten this many views in China or even overseas. Any other pair of leads cast in this drama, it would have been a massive failure.
In China, Crime Crackdown is shown on both TV and web via Tencent video. Because there is so much violence in that show and lots of people smoking, it is shown at a later time in the evening.

Yes, the producer of this drama and director, they have huge amount of experience with the Chinese market. They know what works and what will not. Despite that, they did make a few mistakes here and there. But, generally, they got it right. Judging from the view counts in China, about 67 million people watched 49 episodes of this drama, which is a pretty good number.
I think you will need to make a judgement call. If you really do not like the amount of adaptations made, you should avoid watching it. Now, that being said, I must also add, though they did make lots of change, there are manhua reader who do not mind those changes.
At the end of the day, it is not just the number of changes made, but whether the changes were to your taste. If you find that it destroys your mental image of Li Changge, you should just avoid watching this drama.
