Only way not to cry, while watching those episodes is turn off the volume. Once you hear the music, the words…
Very much so. You added more context, what she must be feeling at that moment. Her misery. Sadness. Losing A'Dou. Then losing the governor. This scene is going an epic scene for many people.
I feel exactly the way you do! After watching TLB, I tried one rom com. It became so so difficult to watch. Everything became so shallow. Like when you have tasted an extremely sweet mango. And you try another fruit, you feel that it is almost tasteless.
I made a list of my fav characters here and realised they are too many!
Yes, you keep listing and then you keep reflecting. They are just all so inter-connected to each other. Not a single character is wasted.
The screenwriters, the director and his team, all really did a good job in writing and making all the cast members portray all those characters well, even though they were just supporting characters
Ep 14 to 16 are on another level! Don't even bother to remember how many times you cried. Being aware of what's…
Only way not to cry, while watching those episodes is turn off the volume. Once you hear the music, the words spoken, you are trapped in its embrace.
Especially the snow walk scene when Changge surrendered to AS. Do you notice that they slowed down the frames when CG was walking out and the snow started falling?? And the voice actress who dubbed Changge's voice, I felt she spoke with a more formal and serious tone. It was just exquisite.
And then, just as miraculously as when it first fell, the snow stopped, the moment they finished their negotiation and AS managed to spare CG's life. As if to indicate, even the heavens give blessings to this next phase of their life together. Because it was in this scene that CG first knew AS's true identity.
Love all the casts, love the main couple and second couple story. This drama would be perfect if there’s a real…
Agree with you! But real kiss not possible. The main couple, the ML, he has a no-kiss clause in his contract (very likely, since all his previous dramas, no kiss).
Many of us who are here felt that main couple and second couple did enough to convey love and affection. Main couple appropriately had more screen time, since the FL is the main protagnist.
So, you will be able to see love and affection from the way they gaze at each other, held hands, there were two very affectionate forehead kiss, the jealous look on his face, whenever he senses there is love competition, the way he dealt with those who wanted to harm the FL. Lots of their dialogue and conversation, lots of little stuff. You need to be a tad more observant, more attentive in listening, and you can see, they more than made up for the lack of mouth to mouth kisses
The 2nd couple likewise, even with limited screen time, was able to project love and affection toward each other.
As for real actions manga, I fully agree with me, as do many who are here. Two possibilities. One is budget. But director said it was not to save money. How much of that is true, we don't know. If budget is an issue, they still use CGI to create some of the battle scenes. But, this could well delay the production process, which will mean delay in the broadcast. Also, director said they wanted to pay homage to the manhua, and using those manga pictures was a good way to do it.
In the end, because the entire cast did such an excellent job, the georgeous music and cinematography used in some of more individual or smaller scale fight scenes, the amazing overall story line which showed the character development for so many of the characters and those wholesome values they tried to project, many of us were able to overlook the usage of manga to replace live action scenes for large battle scenes.
One person commented, despite some of the imperfections, it was still a perfect drama.
How much of the show follows the manhua? I mean, how far into the show is actually from the book?
Did not read the manhua, but we all know that the manhua was stopped because of legal issues between the author and her previous company. May have to do with royalty issues.
So, the drama actually extended the manhua, so many things you see in the drama, you will not see in the manhua
Some manhua readers also mentioned, in the manhua, there was even less romance between AS and Changge than what we see in the drama. I think they have to drum up the romance part, because viewers always want to see more romance is a drama. It seems, regardless of genre, romance is a key success ingredient.
I was also told, in the manhua, AS found out that CG is a girl much later. They had to change this, if they wanted to show romance between the two much earlier on. This will help to make their romance more slow burn and also more realistic.
So, they (the screenwriters) really did attempt to follow the manhua as far as possible, and only change when change and adaption was necessary.
Yay! So wonderful to read that the GeSun couple is receiving accolades for their pairing! Both Reba and Leo received…
Yes, amazing acting from both. Those who had no idea of the actual age, could hardly tell. But practically all who know a bit about their age profile, knew Reba was so much older than Wu Lei. Immediately, when casting decision was announced, they raised their red flag, as if to tell us, no no, what a terrible decision. Many said, when standing next to Reba, Wu Lei will look like her little brother. Some were even more insulting. In an interview, while the show was still being broadcast, they said that interview made her look like his auntie. At which point even Reba had to defend herself. "Am I old? I am just in my twenties!"
Yet, on screen, they looked the age they were portraying. AS always "looking" older than Changge in his behaviour, more matured in his behavior
This age gap thing reflects gender bias in China. Ok to have ML many years older than FL, but not ok to have FL older than ML.
In an interview, the producer said she did not really care about age. She felt if the actors/actresses are good, they will be able to portray their screen age well (regardless of their actual age). I think she was right.
Are you referring to their reunion in Luoyang? If so, I do agree! What I love most about Ah Sun is just how straight-forward…
I fully agree too! At their reunion, he knew, he got the woman he wants for the rest of his life. But he was rightfully a bit jealous toward Shuyu. After all, Changge spent many years in the Tang palace. And Shuyu could be her old playmate. He did not want any kind of love competition. You could see the death stare he gave to him, when Changge held Shuyu's hand, as if to say,"No no". And Changge quickly put it down when she saw AS's death stare . So, it was always both ways, Sun able to read CG's facial expressions and CG able to read his too
And yes, the GeSun relationship was just so full of mutual respect, mutual understanding. I think someone mentioned this, they were on par at many levels, in terms of intelligence, emotions and physicality. Remember, she was able to beat him in cuju ball. Able to take so many arrows, one of which was his. That is why he never once looked down on her.
I love the fact that you used Harry Potter reference, huge fan of Harry Potter, and Hermione kick ass :)
Watson was very young, when she played Hermione. Maybe just around 10-11 years old. Playing Hermione must have left such an impression on her as she reprised her role again and again over a period of so many years.
Our dear Reba did her Changge for only 4 months? And Reba is much older. It will be interesting if someone will interview her and ask her to reflect upon how playing Changge has impacted her.
I have so many and I think the fact that the supporting characters are so well written makes TLB such a strong,…
I think by then, he very likely suspect that his mother would have perished. Mini died. All the women that meant most to him perished. By then, he had no desire to be any kind of Khan. There was very little for him to live for. And dying in Sun's sword would have have been an honour for him, since he respected Sun so much
I have so many and I think the fact that the supporting characters are so well written makes TLB such a strong,…
I love all of these characters that you mentioned. They play supporting roles, but very critical roles to the flow of the entire storyline. Especially when you mentioned. Loyalty for like what? More than 20 years? And loyalty to the Khatun right to the very end! Very impressive
Lovely. We can also see this in her name in English. Changge. Remove one 'g', we get change, which is what her…
In that case, it is no coincidence then. If it was taken around mid autum of 2019, he would have known that that he was cast as AS. He was definitely using it to promote Changge
Oh yea, I’m really glad they didn’t do that either, I’m not sure how I would handle that either lol
We will probably cry more. And, depends on how they write it, we may or may not have some negative wish upon the screenwriters. Seems some individuals can handle this sort of ending really well, especially if their deaths was purposeful and not needless
To all Zhao Lusi fans, I am looking out for her new project, Who Rules The World. This will be her first historical project after TLB.
She said she took the role of Leyan, because it is totally new, something she has not done before.
I am looking to see her performance, as the FL in an historical, after TLB. See if playing Leyan has helped her in some ways. And wishing her every success. This should be out next year? And she is playing oppposite a big male star. Successful portrayal of the FL will definitely make a big impact in her career.
I am a fan of no particular actors/actress. I just appreciate good acting, whoever who delivers it
Lovely. We can also see this in her name in English. Changge. Remove one 'g', we get change, which is what her…
This video was taken around the mid autumn festival? If so, he was referring to the legend involving the Chinese moon goddess Chang'e, which is slightly different from our Changge.
But, if the video was taken in mid autumn but released only now, or was re-released now, then yes, he is still promoting TLB. Changge (our Li Changge) and Chang'e (the moon goddess) sound different in Mandarin. But notice, he chose to say it in English, and the way he pronounced it makes Chang'e sounds very similar to Changge. So, yes, I don't think it a coincidence at all. The timing of this twit and him choosing to pronounce it the way he did, he was still reminding us of our dear Changge.
Some of you mentioned the trope for the HaoYan couple. The bad guy changed by the girl trope used in many dramas.
I was thinking, where did they get the inpiration for the GeSun couple? In particular, in the drama, since the manhua did not focus too much on their romance.
I had to think of my younger days when my mother used to bring me to watch Chinese operas. And one of the very popular one was the legend popularly known as Butterfly lovers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_Lovers
Read it. See if you think this is happened to our AS, when he first found out Changge was a girl
The image of the two butterflies flying out of a tomb was also used in the final scene in an Korean historical drama Dong Yi (2010), which was the breakout role for Korean actress Han Hyo Joo who played the main protaganist, who was also a fearless and very smart female character. Unlike Changge, her character was partly inspired by a true Korean concubine of a historical korean King.
Anyway, I am just glad our screenwriters did not kill off CG and AS and show them as butterflies coming out of a tomb in the grasslands.
The screenwriters, the director and his team, all really did a good job in writing and making all the cast members portray all those characters well, even though they were just supporting characters
