Lovely video. Many of us are not exclusive GeSun fans.

We came here for the whole package. If there are more discussion in this forum about GeSun, more videos about them, it is purely because Changge is the main protaganist, hence she got more screen time and hence GeSun got more screen time than Haoyan.

But whatever little time given to Haoyan, both actors excelled. They conveyed what they had to, and did so beautifully.

Not only that, I think the Leyan character was added to the drama not just to show Haoyan, but also to show the beautiful relationship between Leyan and Changge.

Their screen time together showed two cousins who truly love and cared for each other. Intially, Changge did more of the protecting, because she was already strong, due to her upbringing. Toward the end, Leyan reciprocated, when her character became strong enough to stand up and fight for Changge.

There are many 'brands' of slow burn romance out there. But theirs is perhaps the most unique.

I think this is in part forced upon the director due to Wu Lei's no kiss clause his contract (which does not include forehead kisses). He needed to show romance between the Changge and Sun. Like it not, even though this show was about Changge's journey, viewers still wanted some romance.

So, what can the director do? To show love and intimacy between the most healthy couple in Cdramaland. that had a relationship that is not forced by one on the other, where the FL is made to feel co-equal with the ML.

In came all those micro gestures. When she recoils her hands, each time he held hers - to convey shyness in her first experience of love - he will let her do it and not grab it back forcefully (Come on, if you love me, you must allow me to hold your hands!). Then, there were those killer eye gazes. How many times, during episode 31, the camera will show her looking at him with those eyes that say, wow, thank you, I love so much for saving me.

It is not that other dramas do not have these micro gestures. They do. But micro gestures are harder to execute. And often have to be repeated, before viewers notice them and understand the meaning of those gestures. Mouth-to-mouth kisses are easier. One hot passionate kiss, and we know exactly what this is all about. If that is not enough, throw in a bedroom scene.

Yet, like you, Linh, many of us find Changge-and-Sun's version of love, romance, and itimacy a bit more unique and, perhaps even more classy.

They showed only two forehead kisses in 49 episodes. Yet the director contextualised those kisses at the right moments. Not just to show physical itimacy, but to show that the ML truly cared for the FL, and that physical itimacy was not forced upon the FL. They came when Changge already connected with Sun emotionally.

Physically intimacy without emotional connectivity is totally meaningless.

It is exactly as you described. Some viewers find certain scenes out of place. Illogical. If they love each other, the ending ought to be this way. They cannot or will not accept an alternative way to convey the same message, another way which is perhaps more in line with the character.

By far, I find most comments relate to the final scene. Cause lots of us want to know the ending. That is the most common question asked, whenever a potential viewer joins this forum. And the most comment raised by those who have finished watching the drama.

Many do not seemed convinced that the two main leads end up together very happily. If they are happy, together, the director must show them to be physically together in the final scene. Yet, the drama conveys more realism than we realise or care to think. Because, in real life, two persons can be absolutely happy together, even if they are not 'seen' together all the time.

When they trust each other as much as Changge and Ashile Sun do, one person can be in one city, the other half way across the world, each doing what is important to him or her, they are indeed very happy, together. While Changge and Sun love each other, people forget, these are also two highly individualistic characters. Especially Li Changge. The vibe we get is that she is always out to find her own adventures, with and sometimes, without Sun. She is a smart girl. If she is smart enough to save him, she is smart enough to take care of herself.

She will be in the grasslands with Sun. But the grasslands is huge! Sun trust her, to do her own stuff in her corner, so he can do his in another corner.

Today, we use whatsapp, Wechat and other electronic platforms to keep in touch. Those days, they used hawks and eagles.

Those forehead kisses had to be done just right. They were very closed up shots. Dilraba has a very high-bridged nose, so Wu Lei must pick the exact spot, for maximum effect.

Too low, her nose will be poking into his chin. Too high, his chin will be touching her forehead. But, at just the right spot, the profile or contour of her nose will blend with the lower part of his part chin, giving us the maximum impact from those shots.

Throughout the 49 episodes, only 2 forehead kisses. They need to make sure everyone counts.

I think what you have described is exactly the sort of images that the director was trying to bring across. In many of their interactions, after episode 31 when she finally responded to all his overtures, there were lots of these small gestures exhibited by Changge. Recoiling her hands when Sun held her hands, looking shy and turning her face from his; all meant to convey how a high school girl would behave toward her first love.

If you felt the way you did, it only meant one thing: Dilrada delivered her role well.

Happy ending. Worth the watch. But this is the kind of drama that needs total immersion on your part. You need to pay careful attention to their facial expressions, hand gestures, body language, and not be distracted by focusing too much on the subtitles. Or else, you will miss many of the messages the actors and actresss were trying to convey

So this was an ad? A full 5 minute ad? Always thought it was part of a drama or movie.

Perfectly alright. Some who watched for Wu Lei may have ended falling for Dilraba. So many actors/actresses did so well in this drama, we can simply throw a dart, we would hit someone who did a great job portraying whatever character he/she signed up for

I also watch Rise of the Phoenixes, because it also has a strong FL. And Ni Ni is a very good actress. Also it has her in cross dressing, just like our Changge. The ML also a great actor. But I got stuck somewhere, somehow. When I get bored, I will go back to it.

Agree! It is a form of on screen chemistry too. Due to the big amount of screen time given to their interactions, we can see the beauty of every word they use when speaking to each other. Cheezy and childish when taken alone. But sweet and affectionate, when seen in the context of their collective adventure.

Same here. I just keep re-watching some of my favourite scenes.

For some reason, I kept going back to the snow walk scene. The tone of the voice used by the dubber, when Changge hand that box to Ashile Sun, the tone just sounded so formal, so dignified. And then the shock on Changge's face, when Sun took off his face gear and Changge realised who she had been interacting with all this while, right from episode 1.

And I just laughed to myself, when Sun asked her, why must I do what you asked? She gave quite a good reason for them to spare the citizens of that city. But I just thought to myself, the way he was smitten by him from episode 5, she could have given any kind crap reason, he would have said yes. He just needed a cover, an excuse, to keep her by his side.

Some of the scenes between Leyan and Hao Du are also very touching. Those after she was found. When she became brave enough to challenge Hao Du. And she used her bravery to shield Changge from danger (which usually means shielding her from Hao Du).

These and many others, once withdrawal comes, I will re-watch. Like you, this is the best form of therapy. All the other dramas currently on offer just do not carry the same punch.

Or, he might have to lower his entire head, just to film that slap scene. For sure, the cameraman will need to be very creative in filming all their scenes together, particulary all those that involved both of them standing.
